- A couple who say they are tired of paying for damage after driving over potholes in Compton is taking action.

It's ironic that in California we have to pay a premium to have our vehicles "road legal" but it's not mandatory for roads to be "car legal"
They won't fix our roads because it's a profit just like all the other scams we have here in CA
The city should be embarrassed.
That not the only city with potholes as there lot of cities in California have potholes.
All the ghettos and anywhere that isn’t Burbank or Sherman oaks or Encino and surrounding similar cities.

My grandfather owned a CEMENT Company in LA. through the 50s till the 2000s and HE build tons of roads, the way his company did black top work is way different than the way company's do it now. the quality isn't there, or the technique. There are tons of stuff still around he built with his two hands all over LA.
He would be one of those people fixing pot holes. if he was still alive

This is so upsetting! This is why WE PAY TAXES!!! So, we're being taxed, then when these good Samaritans buy the gravel, they get taxed AGAIN!!!! ALL DONORS NEED TO BE REIMBURSED! city needs to STOP putting bandaids over our issues and come up with SOLUTIONS!!!! and citizens need to be informed on who they are voting for! In terms of gas taxes : if you find ANY gas station in YOUR TOWN, FILL IT THERE, but if you fill up gas OUTSIDE in another county (let's say Costco), your town won't get those funds. This is according to the county' executive director" that I spoke with.
In terms of property taxes: current voters need to be reminded of PROP13 (1978 California Proposition 13) - as a results now funnels > 2/3 rds of the entire California state's property taxes down to LA for "education".
.. But Consider this : In India, every 12th grade student passing there graduates with knowledge of statistics and calculus... All this with 1) extremely cheap funds from government and 2) merit
(granted that MAJORITY OF KIDS do attend outside tuition for certain subjects but they tend to become the cream of the crop anywhere in the world, not a barista /psychology /climate science major)
Nah we pay taxes to help the 1% and have other countries have clean streets such as israel, we pay taxes to make sure those potholes will never be filled because when they get filled they lose our support and money.

Well, that's the City of Compton. It's own incorporated city. The City's elected officials don't care. They just pocket the money. Just as that chief of police in Bell a few years ago. Remember him? When it was made public how much he was making, he quit. Same with the Alhambra Fire Dept. Chief around 1996. He cleared out his office in one day and split. An absolute joke. Try calling the County office. You will be on hold all day, just to hear "The office is now closed, please try back tomorrow." And they don't return e-mails either. But watch, this couple will likely get fined if they don't have a permit from the city. SNAFU... Same with all the RV's on your residential streets. The city doesn't care.

Yes, Californians voted for Prop 13. Property taxes used to fund education. Since Prop 13 was passed, California's public education system has gone from one of the best in the country to one of the worst, with some of the lowest funding per pupil in the country. Other states use property taxes to fund their education systems, but now that their property values are rising, they may be priced out of their homes. So what do you want? An uneducated population and the decline of the state's economy or fewer taxes?
But many high school graduates are not ready for the workforce (let alone colleges). I've seen many young adults that have a difficult time reading.

🤬🤬Don't worry. Like always, after they fix it, some utility or contractor will come and dig it up. Lack of planning, project management, coordination. Also, after they dig it they'll do the cheapest minimal patch job that will last 3 months. Someone is making money while we pay the car repair bills. Then they'll fix the same road unnecessarily while leaving others untouched for years.

@@frafraplanner9277 even the average EV (tm3) is heavier then the average crossover SUV. But the DMV has already starting to start taxing EVs more, just not proportionate enough YET.

They don't even know how to do it right. You have to heat it up and it will bind. Otherwise if you keep driving over it the loose gravel moves around and it redevelops again.

I live in Santa Monica and I've also been dealing with potholes in my alley for years. It's a never ending problem of this city. They don't know how to make efficient, strong and durable roads and pavements.

I used to work around Compton and Gardena. Even the DHL delivery trucks would get flats from these potholes. Theyre all over and mostly around the areas in which semis frequently go through.
How does it harden? Do they just put water on it, then it cures? I'm imagining there's gotta be a way to harden it otherwise it'll just get blown/washed away
They need to lay a piece of plywood down and use their car to compress the cold patch….. just a tip Good job taking initiative

Unfortunately is just a waste, the next storm or just your daily traffic, this patch will wash away. A re-pave road is the only way or hot mix patch.

A lot of unexplainable fatal rollovers begin with micro fractures in the tire caused on impact with the lip of the pothole. Ruined control arm is another $1,000, after fractured boots on transaxle require attention on that.
The city might sue you guys if something goes wrong because that’s not professional and supervised, official repairs 😅 they could go and remove your concrete and place theirs 😮

I have replaced all four of my tires in the last 5 months due to potholes. Wish I had the means to fill them in.

yes this would fall under charitable donations. Just keep the receipts for amounts greater than $400. Also any donations given to these people are also tax deductible.
