    I had used this M1 Macbook Air (8GB ram) for the last 3 years for office work. I did coding on it and had to run 3 different projects at the same time and trust me, never have I ever faced any lagging issue. 256GB for coding is more than enough and you can use icloud to store your personal data like photos or videos. Also I love the build of this one as it was thin near the end and not like the box one which is currently being used

    So I forced my dad into shifting to this (rose gold) from his old dell in early 2021. It’s been a beast ever since. Even to date it opens apps in the blink of an eye, has a great battery life and is running all software amazingly fast. Only downside is the discolouration on the sides of the trackpad as the aluminium is not anodised like the new models . Overall still loving it.

    My personal opinion based on my usage:
    1. Battery life is not as good as people make it sound it out to be, especially when it starts to run the cycle up
    2. Great screen, great color reproduction, great charge time, great build quality, great speakers, and great third party apps. Overall very beautiful.
    3. Love how that in the winter, the MBA M1 it stays icy cold and not that hot in the winter when using multiple programs
    4. Crossover works flawlessly.
    5. Photoshop and any photo editing app works great.
    I highly suggest to get at least 16gb of RAM.

      I have found that the two largest factors that affect battery life on this thing are screen brightness and the gpu. If you need more battery life lower the brightness, put it on Low Power Mode, and try not to leave gpu heavy tasks running in the background.
      I have noticed the battery life is a bit less than when I first got it, but that is to be expected with the battery health now at less than 90%.

    My wife who works as a school teacher uses a 16 GB MB Air on the job. She is extremely happy with it for her use-cases. She considers this notebook computer to be a significant upgrade to her prior Intel MB Air in regard to weight and performance. My son uses the M1 MB Pro16 GB model in part for creating music using Logic with dozens of tracks and Sibelius. He also uses plugins. The MB Pro has worked like a champ for his use-case in this regard. Professionals who write a symphony however typically want 128 GB of RAM in their system per what I have read on-line.

    My base M1 air has never broken a sweat during my 2.5 years of daily and rather intensive professional use (writing, browsing,…) I still easily get more than 10 hours of use on battery. Logical. I use a 2019 MBP16 i9 with an external 16 in 2k portable screen for hot-desking away from my study or main office (both have a pair of 27in monitors). More recently I have used an MBP13 16/512 from work on the move and now a superb M1 16/2Tb iPad 11 and magic keyboard for true mobility such as plane travel, trains and editing AV and photos when away from base. I got that combo at a great price ($1200 the pair). The iPad is so versatile nowadays I also notice more of my students have iPad 13s and the keyboard with the pencil. As I teach engineering they find that setup more intuitive than a laptop. Costs more but they want something that will last for many years and still have residual value.
      I was going to get an MB Air for my daughter (hospital doctor) but she took a shine to my 2015 retina MBP13 for its superb build and keyboard. She also has a 10.5 iPad Pro with a Logitech keyboard and an M1 desktop at her home. So older stuff still gets lots of use.

    Hey there! Just wanted to share my recent experience with the M1 MacBook Air. As a computer science student, I was a die-hard Linux user, but transitioning to this MacBook Air felt like coming home. The migration was smooth, and the absence of a notch is such a relief! (Yeah! coz I really don't like the notch on the newer MacBooks.)
    I opted for the base model, and let me tell you, no regrets whatsoever. The design is sleek and beautiful, and the M1 chip, though it's three years old, impresses me with its optimization. @@itorresv97 It really depends, it's not like the little M1 MBA couldn't handle Logic, but being fanless, for me it would get pretty warm and if you run a lot of tracks or high sample rates, you may see some slowdowns.
      For me personally, I didn't like the heat from a heavy workload, and I often ran more programs at the same time so with that small amount of ram, I had some very noticeable slowdowns.

    Like listen, I’m using it for around a year, and I’m 3d sculpting, programming, running vms, writing stuff and even playing some games like Minecraft Celeste and such and etc. and honestly, it never even broke a sweat, i mean, it got kinda laggy if I when playing Minecraft with some intense shaders, but you generally speaking don’t buy a MacBook if your primary use for it is gaming. And honestly, I can see myself using it well into the future, the only note that I would like to make is that you should really stay away from the 8 gb model, it was way too little when it got released and it’s not getting better over time, it’s fine if you only use it for web browsing and RUclips and word and such, but then in my opinion you should really just get an iPad, it would cost around the same but you would like enjoy it way more because of the touchscreen and just how portable it is.

    Okay. Here are my two cents about the MacBook Air M1(8GB/ 256GB config.) in 2024; I'm a digital marketer by profession and use Safari, Keynotes, Pages and Numbers daily. Also, I'm using Canva or Photoshop, Capcut or Final Cut Pro sometimes. I purchased this as soon as they released this, and since then my Macbook has been working just fine since I turned it on for the first time. I dropped my MBA and effed up a speaker, there are a few scratches here and there and the palm rest is faded. Software experience 100%; hardware experience 100%. Also, I'm using this MBA for my studies and day-to-day personal use. Nothing to complain about. It's just perfect.
    In 2024, yes MBA even with base configuration is more than a decent laptop (and most of the Windows laptops in this budget range are total 💩).
    In conclusion;
    Is it future-proof: I can count decent 5 more years; so YES.
    Is it a decent laptop for a decent workflow: YES
    Is it budget friendly: YES
    Who are you gonna recommend this for? Anyone with a decent workflow. Ex: College students, Small business owners, Executives, Managers likewise (hope you get the picture)

    not only is the M1 good for "college students" (duh) but it's a perfectly fine machine for heavy creative tasks such as making music or video editing (in 4K probably). I use it professionally for music making and I've yet to hit any CPU limit. People will tell you you need the pro or whatever but really don't fall for marketing; getting a model twice more expensive will probably not change anything in your everyday workload. Get 16GB of RAM if you can and you'll be set for years. If you don't know if you need a more powerful machine then you probably don't. Also beware specific worload use specific core combinations, so the newer model is not necessarily the best for your specific needs.

      Thanks for the info! I’m also producing music professionaly and I know how to manage ram in my projects but never really tried to produce on mac, do you think 8gb RAM is enough for the next 2-3 years, I have i7 PC with 16 gb ram but CPU is killing on me..M1 would be perfect

    • @valdir7426
      @valdir7426 4 месяца назад

      @@itsbornab It's definitely not ideal but for me it has been ok; I sometimes hit the orange pressure but it still runs. but I use very few samples so with a few orchestral samples libraries you could easily run into problems. I use ableton so I don't know how it compares to other daws. The mac will use all the ram it can so you can't really rely on the total ram usage indicator to tell the whole story; more the memory pressure and swap size. mac uses memory compression for least used memory and swap which happens on a fast ssd so it's less noticeable. a bigger swap means more problems though. Typically I have it under 800 MB while using ableton.

    • @itsbornab
      @itsbornab 4 месяца назад

      @@valdir7426 Thanks bro once again! I’m fl studio user… and don’t really use orchestral libraries, I use mostly serum, sylenth1, m1 korg… and they are not that heavy on ram in small numbers… Usually focusing on using quallity sounds in the first place with small number of effects on mixer chain. I’m also exporting stems when my project start to slowdown on pc so it’s ok… Probably better option for production then my pc but 8 ram is a bit scary in 2024 so I had to ask haha.

The worst part is you can't customize them you are basically stuck with the default look and feel.

    One question that has not been answered by anyone yet, is for how long will Apple support M1 Macs with OS updates .
    Historically an Intel Mac would receive updates for about 7 years after the model year; maybe less, not 100% sure.
    i.e. a 2020 model would receive updates -let say- until 2027.
    As these M1 Macs are still on sale in 2024, would they receive updates for 7 more years ? or not, which would be a bummer.

    • @valdir7426

    It is still a very good value proposition considering hardware, power and price. Specifically the 16GB model. I had the base 8GB and, even basic consumer use, like keeping numerous apps open and unmonitored and having 50 Chrome windows open will inevitably tax the memory and can lead to apps crashing. The 16GB models are available for $699 plus tax refurbished and at that price and specs, one can certainly buy still with confidence and reassurance. Even in 2024 :)

Should I go for it in 2024, is it still worth it? Or should I increase my budget and purchase an M2 Macbook air. Actually I have already ordered M1 MacBook Air 7 days ago, and as they have launched M3 Macbook Air today, M1 has gotten cheaper, and probably I will be getting the refund of the price difference (of around 121 dollars). Please help, if I should cancel my order of Macbook Air M1, and order M2 with 256 GB and 16 GB RAM? The price difference is 121 dollars! I have just graduated and want to spend wisely!

    The battery life is great! It’s much better then windows however I would highly recommend getting at least 16gb of ram. It helps when you have a lot of tabs open or if you use ram intensive apps. I ran into this issue several times with only a couple of tabs open on the m1 air with 8gb of ram. In my personal preference Im not a big fan of the design of the m1 but that still wasn’t a deal breaker when I originally bought the m1. Overall it’s a great option for someone who may want a MacBook but is on a budget or for someone who is just entering the apple ecosystem 😊

After I submitted my assigments, I was honestly amazed by how well it handled all those tabs, especially that my brother's M2 air with 16gb of ram could not handle as much tabs as I had, Im not kidding, we literally tested it side to side.
