Hi mate really enjoyed the video. I run a berlingo on CX. I don't have a bulk head so find the most comfy way to sleep is to put your load extender down and have your head near the back door and feet on load extender. I usually have a blanket up too. Been doing 15 months and enjoy it. Look forward to the next vid.
I have a mesh bulkhead but it can be taken down. I'm doing some tests with it, gotta get myself a bit more stuff but I'm nearly there. Thank you for the comment, I'm enjoying my time on cx so far too.
Youre welcome pal, thanks for your time, you've been very helpful so far. I'm a big ugly bugger so I might be best doing most of my videos in the dark lol.
Hi mate, I have a similar story to you. I bought LWB to convert to camper and ended up joining the cx in lwb instead of converting it. I found straightaway that running a LWB for good money would require tramping most of the week, which I don't want to do. I've now upgraded my cx to pro or smallfleet and my bro is going to be out in the lwb (which he has bought off me) I've also got small van on now, which for now I will drive occasionally but mostly will be driven by a driver. I'm now planning to run the cx on side from other work. I hope to have a 3rd van on by the end of Feb. Subbed 👍 In conclusion from my experience, you can make ok money as an owner driver but it's not on a plate.
It's definitely not a get rich quick scheme but it's an OK way to make a living. I like the flexibility of it and its a lot better paid and less stressful than the majority of jobs I've previously had. I have done multidrop work before for Supermarkets and this is night and day in comparison. I may end up buying a LWB or Luton myself at some point and running it alongside my small van but will need to find another driver. I was gonna ask a mate of mine but he's gone back to work full time now which is a pain... Thanks for the comment pal.
@@justanothercourier I agree, it's great way to earn a living if you don't want to be tied down. Btw I've never had any experience of multi drop and have absolutely no intention of changing that any time soon. Good luck with the channel 👍
@@jrsuk1170 Yeah multidrop works for some people but I didn't enjoy it and I was only doing 15 to 20 drops at a time as opposed to the 100 to 200 that Amazon guys do... Thank you.
As someone not 2 minutes from Tamworth i did wonder which pub you are sat in :-) Going through your points .... Big vrs small . Us big un`s get a choice of jobs . Theres simply more work for upto a luton . However unless a shippers doomed we may miss out on the smaller stuff in as you say running cost issues . Reputation and people remembering whom i am and the small fact they book me and apart from an invoice never hear from me again pays dividends ...... meaning when i quote at a quid a mile or more im considered rather than hitting the no list . It is noticeable that when i venture out the midlands i have to quote lower to secure work . Im not doing this as a charity ..... i dont venture much lower than a quid and prefer to go home empty rather than seek a 3-4 quid an hour job . London .... if your face fits ...... As an unknown you and i both have to wade through the crap no-one else would venture toward . I find it very very hard to get anything out of London that pays a wage . Slough etc you can get a bit but other than that your going to be shot across the digshit that is london for pennys ..... not for me . Advise .... find your local courier company and sign up . FFS dont be exclusive , explain your there for early outbound stuff and will seek your own runs back thats if they dont . That gets your arse out the door first thing hopefully . Good luck
I wish I could remember bud, I should know as my Dad's family are all from the Lichfield/Tamworth area... Yes I know what you mean. You can do a greater variety of work in a bigger van but shippers aren't always willing to pay the money it seems. Once I've got my name out there and have the money to do so I may consider getting a bigger van and running it alongside my current one but finding ones in good condition on second hand market is hard... particularly Lutons. And prices atm are daft as little availability. Yes, I don't think I'm gonna be doing jobs to London again in a hurry. If you live north of Watford it's hard to get a backload back and the time it takes to go around the M25 and from one part of it to another eats away at any profits you make. That's before TFL have had their cut or you accidentally drive through a bus lane or park in the wrong place... I'll still do jobs there for good money but going to be selective about it. I'm ringing up a few local shippers and giving them my CX details. I think once you prove yourself reliable and professional then you'll get steady work. Then it's just an issue of getting a backload from another area or work whilst you're there and tramping. Thanks for the comment.
@@justanothercourier Not at all mate, if you come across me on CX , drop me a msg & I’ll save your number as I occasionally post work in and around Telford
@@dan-bth-transport Thanks buddy I will do. Appreciate it. If you have any work in Telford/Wolverhampton/Shrewsbury area that would be much appreciated.
Thank you pal. Small van work is plentiful in London but there's a lot of competition. Advantage you'll have is running costs, ability to park anywhere which is very useful plus TFL will chase you for less money lol. I actually have a Peugeot Partner which is a Berlingo with a different badge. It's a great wee van, just wish it had a 6th gear and cruise control...
@@Mohammed-rr7wm Difficult question to answer as it depends on the milage you do. Generally I'm getting between 50 to 56mpg in my van atm but been doing a lot of miles recently and don't have a fuel card yet. I'd say if you're doing big miles it will cost you about 200 a week fuel wise. That's if you're paying full pump price though... I'm currently using supermarket fuel which is cheap by me. Researching fuel cards at the moment to see what is best.
@@stateofmind91 thanks JJ for the weekly fuel cost info. My plan is to around London and drive between London and central England in a Citroen Berlingo or Peugeot Partner. Do you drive Citroen,Peugeot or ford van?
Great video mate what average rates are for small van I thought to get large van but cannot afford yet because of waiting for first money so maybe is worth to start with small van.
Thank you pal. Generally speaking I charge anywhere between 67 to 80 pence per mile but depending where you are and what job you are doing that can vary a lot. You can be lucky and get 90p to £1 a mile. Generally shorter jobs (less than 40 miles) work out at a higher pplm. There are guys on here in small vans far more experienced than me. So best to watch their videos for more information. Thanks for the comment.
How do you find the comfort of your pug while driving, being a big chap N all? I'm considering something similar size (fiat doblo) but being a chap built for comfort rather than speed, I'm concerned of comfort lol.
It's actually very good. It took me a while to find a good driving position but now I have its great tbh. Its also a very practical cabin as there is storage everywhere and both passenger seats fold up or flat so plenty of room for stuff.
