Hi, good video I'm going later in the year and it will be my first time in barbados. I'm a black senior who's party days are long over. Are there any nice places to shop?
Other tips 1. the fare on public transport is standard ($3.50) and it is one price irrespective of where u are going and the length of the journey. 2. the bus routes are marked with two types of sign 1) bus into city stop or 2) bus out of city stop. This helps with general directions and orienteering so if you are driving you should never get lost 3. not only take off the packaging on imported goods but also remove the tags and receipts. Also if you have family that can mail stuff to you have them do so and tell them to label the mail as a gift.
I'm a Bajan and this video randomly popped up in my feed so I watched it out of curiosity and you hit the nail on the head with each point! Our tourist board should hire you to do PSAs for visitors lol! Hope you visit us again soon!
I’m a Barbadian and live in Barbados and I can say you did really really well with these points… I couldn’t really disagree with anything you said and for you to be so accurate after only 4 months living here that’s really good
I visit Barbados OFTEN and accurate! Other things to note (or was interesting to me): 1. Monkeys are wild here. Depending on where you stay you can hear them on your roof or see them walking on the road. 2. Food delivery is not popular but it is emerging. 3. While no UBER there is a new taxi service "pickUP" that's similar 4. All beaches are BEAUTIFUL, clean and FREE!!!!
This is so helpful! This Island is such a special place and what makes it so special is the people. Everyone I met during my time there was so kind, helpful & friendly. So easy to make friends and talk to people. I LOVE Barbados & everything about it. Also just a PSA to support the local vendors; the Paynes Bay fish market is amazing & much better value for money. Same as the fruit & veg vendors in Bridgetown! Cannot wait to go back. Oh! And their hospital service is also great, I didn’t have to pay for my medical assistance (an ambulance from East Coast to Bridgetown, an X-ray, and around 8 hours of care). The only thing I had to pay for was medication on discharge. So grateful to Barbados and the beautiful Bajan people for taking care of me! ❤
Yes this video is on point. The Transport board buses run on “island time” but the ZRs are never late and NEVER too full! Big up my bajan posseeeee and welcome to my lovely island, have a great time!!!!! 🇧🇧 🇧🇧
We went there end of July, beginning of August. AWESOME TIME! Everyone on the island very pleasant! ... Take a taxi and keep using same person. They will bend over backwards to accommodate! Be polite as stated in this video... gets you a long way! Enjoy and don't just meet the locals, talk to them... you will gain a wealth of knowledge.... BTW, Harbor lights is the bomb! Flying fish!!!!
Thank youuu Stan! I really love when people share their recommendations too! Sharing is caring so I’m 100% down! I’m so happy you had fun! I’ve gotta try Harbor lights again. I tried it during the height of the pandemic so it wasn’t the same. Greatttt advice re: using the same driver. That’s so true! And you can get a better deal!
Thank you for this helpful video. My husband and I are planning our first trip to Barbados to celebrate my 50th birthday. I’m always looking to be educated before I go to a place. Thank you again!
You're so welcome Tamara! The thing I love about Barbados is that it has a little bit of everything. If you want an active experience, it has tons of activities and food. If you want a chill experience with beautiful views, the east coast of the island is everythingggg! Culture is there! water adventures is there! The platinum coast on the west is where the rich go. I wish more people took the time to make tips videos for where ever they are, doing what ever they are doing, for the people who don't even know what they don't know. I probably will never go to Barbados, but watching a video like this informs me of the questions I should be asking for going anywhere. Thanks!
I'm from Barbados, just work in the bar and restaurant industry, just as a point of clarity service change is split between the staff yes, but if you put a tip on a check it goes to the person who's name is on the check as the server. But great video for those that don't know.
My dad was born in Barbados, but my grandparents migrated to NYC when he was an child. I visited Barbados as a child. When I was married, I wanted to share my husband the other part of my heritage. We stayed at The Beach View at Paynes bay. That ride from the airport was nice until we got to the roundabout. We did see an accident as we were passing. We bought freshly prepared food from a woman at the Paynes bay fishery. We took the ZR to Christ Church to show him where my grandparents were raised! While we were at St Lawrence Gap, We found a supermarket that the locals shopped and bought groceries. Yes! We purchased local products. Anything from the U.S. was outrageously priced! I was raised to say good morning, good afternoon and good night. So it was not foreign. I have not found a beach in the Caribbean that compares to the beaches in Barbados! We went in mid October. The ocean felt like a hot tub. So lovely and healing! The people and the island are gems! Looking to come back soon. We had to cancel our vacation because of Covid! Hopefully we will be back this year! Thank you for your video! Everything you said is on point!
I'm currently in Barbados on business for a week and staying a bit off any hustle and bustle. For cabs I found the PickUp app really helpful. Easy to install and use and so far we havent waited longer than 5min for a cab ever.
Born in Trinidad, grew up in Trinidad, many many many holidays growing up in Bim. Now in Miami, but I could live in Barbados in a nanosecond. My absolute favourite of all the islands and I have been to quite a few and to include living in St. Thomas for a year. Have not been for years, so now I will have to try and get back there to see. Enjoyed this video.
I agree with you 100%..Popular Discount and Cherish which is on Swan Street in Bridgetown, they definitely have some of the most reasonable prices.i mostly shop at Cherish because of the reasonable prices.
There’s an Uber it’s called “pick up Barbados”. It’s a yellow logo. You can pay in cash or use your card. Only issue it’s hard to get outside of normal island times. Like past 7pm on a Sunday or 4am on a weekday. I’ve used it many times and found some great drivers.
wow i'm so glad I've finally found someone who's used it! I added it to my description, but am so happy you left this comment. Thank you girll! I gotta try it, next time i'm there
We just got back from the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴, we stayed @the Breathless Resort and was very disappointed. The food was horrible. I hope Barbados has great food, water sports, nightlife, etc. A great video. 👍. We will be going in December 2023.
Loved this! I live in Barbados and this is so true!!! I liked the fact that you were positive even if it was a critique. Kudos. If you come again reach out.
I agree, very positive. It seems the American diaspora are showing not just Barbados, but many other Caribbean and Central American countries in a positive light. I'm sure the locals or nationals will appreciate this.
nice and honest video👍,you spoke about the restaurants but i hope you had some of the local foods also, like cou cou or roast breadfruit or pudding & souse just to name a few

I'm very surprised by how accurate this video is. Driving in Barbados (outside of us driving on the left) probably isn't difficult, its just different. But I could imagine one feeling nervous or unassured behind the wheel for the first time
Thank you mario! Yea once i figured out the details, I felt better about it. BUT... there's a lot of details lol. I shared more in this video ruclips.net/video/3hmSX5Cames/видео.html
Lol, yes I pass by visitors and yell them good morning and they never answer. I try not to feel any type of way when they don't answer. I just figure they're not used to being in the Caribbean.
Aw I’m sorry to hear that. It’s funny my friend and I were just talking about that. He lives in ghana (we made a video my channel about the Barbados and Ghana experience). I think in the US it’s culturally what we’re used to unless we’re from the souther part of the US. As horrible as it sounds, usually if someone’s saying good morning, they want something from you… ex: a guy looking to flirt. I don’t know why it’s so hard for us to say hi but it’s become our practice and feels normal yet I get why it’s weird. Sounds weird when you say it out loud or type it rather lol
No lies told! I am also from Barbados! It be expensive and you have to shop around for the deals. The Covid-19 protocols have now been relaxed and masks are optional except for a few key places like daycare, doctor's offices, pharmacies and so on.
you're welcome! Thank you for letting me know that it was helpful! I hope you have fun! I created a 25 page guide here incase that's helpful as well! ruclips.net/video/e7r4qTQnro8/видео.html
Get one or two taxi person's numbers at the airport and just keep them on speed dial. Let them know ud be calling them from time to time. That works well. if they cant make it they call another taxi for u. There is also PickUp Barbados
As a bajan I was worried as to what foolish you were going to say as the trend with other creators doing similar videos but I feel like you did excellent in expressing your experiences without being disrespectful . I wish nothing but success for you
How do you mean there is no street lighting? Where I live in an ordinary district there is a street light on the left and another to my right so I don't even have to turn on a light in my bedroom when I wake up during the night.
Hey Bonita! Thx for asking. You’re 100% right. It’s only some areas w/o light. That’s why I added text on screen with a correction as I was saying that
This came up on my recommended videos because I had previously searched Barbados as a possible destination for a vacation. Very interesting, although clothes shopping is not particularly my favourite pastime (or my wife's). IMPORTANT for older visitors:- I found out that if I wished to hire a car, that I would have to get a medical certificate from a Barbados doctor as I am over 70, so that has discouraged me. If cabs have to be booked so far in advance, that is going to make it difficult, particularly as both I and my wife are disabled. We'll probably end up going to the US again, where car rental is less trouble. I have no problem driving whatever side of the road is required.
Thanks,do true,my parents are from Trinidad but I grew up there,I fly in every now and again,I went to college in the USA also,we have a lot in common.
Joseph! Thank you! I really appreciate you taking a second to come on here and let me know that :) More videos to come! I'll be posting every Sunday now at 11am!
On point for sure... as a Bajan I agree with everything... Driving is a NIGHTMARE and without A/C road rage is real. Them ZRs although they are conveniently available, it's also a "ride at your own risk", cause they have their own rules and often take risks overtaking 2 3 or 4 vehicles just to get in front of that ZR in front of them, so they are first to get the upcoming fares, never mind they make their own lanes at round abouts so they can beat the traffic, this really annoys bajans and often they won't let them squeeze in, so if you don't wanna let them in then prepare for a Bajan cussing with plenty "rassholes" used... lol ENJOY BIM ( I am in England, cause in BIM groceries too expensive, sun too darn hot and traffic is enough to give ya a heartattack).. 😀
I live in London originally from B’dos, I return every year and driving is bloody madness. BAJANS please, please, please get into the habit of using your car’s INDICATORS AT ROUNDABOUTS. It will save you from having an accident also crucially it INDICATES what your intended direction is at the roundabout, which exit you will take. Don’t leave it to chance or to the other motorist to guess what you are doing. It makes a lot of sense.
I visited Barbados 2 x yearly for many years and found the driving and roads fabulous. I had no problems with them. I am British tho so we are used to roundabouts. 🤣🤣🤣
Skin, lighting, make up, mic balance an voice clarity are ON! Also No lies told, you covered everything essential, y9u had good teachers 😆… ( i is auh bajan 🙂). When you identified you area of profession it all made sense.
I visited Barbados and I never got lost, driving was easy for me , it was surprising that it felt like home to me just bigger , the food was amazing I stayed in sandy hill, yes groceries are expensive but u get more quantity than where I'm born in (🇦🇬)
Very true and good points. ESPECIALY THE LAST ONE. If you Wana tip give to the person or persons in hand. Say this is for you. Otherwise it's not received in either full amount or in some cases at all.
I am a Bajan and it's a nice plc to visit for about 1month as it's slow pace one can become bored, there's lots to do and see,but if here linger the locals will help u out for sure.we do hv the British manners hd mrning afternoon whenever day is.if staying longer you just find ur circle to b with to hang out regular etc,be safe enjoy if u come.u did a good job.its expensive, bring ur credit cards mo ey,the plc is double or more thn wht u pay at ur home, 🤗😁 welcome, enjoy, very helpful
😊🎉🎉🎉🎉Awesome 🎥 filming from where you was staying based on all stated! Sharing is caring! Expensive is correct. Heels 👠 👠 no flats trainer's sandals! Covid Time which made lots of dollars pounds euros..!🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
It is the same in Jamaica and as you say a lot of the stuff comes from us. My constant question was why so expensive when the us is just around the corner. A flight to Florida is about one and a half hours.
I go to Barbados a lot. This is pretty accurate. Oistins on the weekends is poppin. We send barrels of American products when we plan to stay months at a time. Groceries prices are insane out there. Also we purchase meat locally if we can.
Thank you so much jai! I really appreciate you sharing this video with your friends :) And thank you for your kind words! I love the island and I'm not big on negativity so once again I appreciate that.
Next time you are driving in Barbados get one of your friend to get u a highway manual... It will tell you everything you need to know about driving on the island.
Thank you for all the comments that you guys leave on my videos! Feel free to drop any questions below. I always answer all of my comments :) Additional helpful tips are welcomed as well. This is a community. Sharing is caring!

I have no problem driving whatever side of the road is required.
i am sorry to hear that Mervyn. Thank you also for updating everyone for their visit. I greatly appreciate you!
Bajan here also !!!!! You also have my stamp of approval
Aww thank you Jason!
your my new favorite person! lol i love the round a bout part!!! i wish i could rent a scooter to get around but i know id get killed!!!!
Do houses in Barbados are made out of wood or concrete?
Very interesting and helpful, I think, for any visitor. I spent 30 years, off and on, in B .
Thank youuuu!
Thanks,do true,my parents are from Trinidad but I grew up there,I fly in every now and again,I went to college in the USA also,we have a lot in common.
Great video. You did a great job of describing our island.
Joseph! Thank you! I really appreciate you taking a second to come on here and let me know that :) More videos to come! I'll be posting every Sunday now at 11am!
My Barbados is the best in the world, love, love my country. Yes its a little USA. Many people from the other islands go there for work as in the USA.
haha thank you for sharing this!
Time to for me go back to Barbados to visit family. Good review! Love your voice.
🖤
Yes it time! Thank you!
👍🏾 for the accuracy! Not many visitors understand greeting ppl is part of everyday life.
As a Bajan, ( local ), youre bang on, hope you enjoyed your stay, about the gvmt busses, bang on, i never use them, huggz from Bim.
Haha thank you Anthony! I definitely enjoyed my stay. I’m looking forward to the next one!
On St Kitts the can of shredded pineapple were $2 American vs 25 Cents Caribbean!
Haha thank you so much! I had to let my teachers know they done well. It absolutely takes a community lol
@@Chazeen you gottah thank them, cause that bus comment is our bane😫. ( for decades ) 🤣
@@millyuan 😂
No lights on the streets? Not true.
Awesome video. Thanks for touching on the grocery shopping! Its a mess
I will be in Barbados 🇧🇧 in may cannot wait.
You’re gonna love it! I also just released a travel guide if it’s helpful www.etsy.com/listing/1438942758/chazeens-ultimate-barbados-travel-guide
Amazing I'm bajan and was able to sit through this video because it was to the point and loved how truthful it was !
Haha I really appreciate you sharing that! I really try to get to the point quickly bc that's what I like to watch so this comment means a ton :)
Love this, as a Bajan, really enjoyed it. Especially the part about how the buses run 😂. Great job!
haha! thank you danz!
Excellent information and presentation. I've been to Barbados twice (when I was a teenager) and would love to go back again.
Thank youuu
I visited Barbados and I never got lost, driving was easy for me , it was surprising that it felt like home to me just bigger , the food was amazing I stayed in sandy hill, yes groceries are expensive but u get more quantity than where I'm born in (🇦🇬)
They run on a schedule, but like not really --- I Love it LOL - Thanks for sharing
Friday afternoon traffic on road out of Bridgetown towards Lawrence Gap is terrible. Can be quicker to walk
Very true and good points. ESPECIALY THE LAST ONE. If you Wana tip give to the person or persons in hand. Say this is for you. Otherwise it's not received in either full amount or in some cases at all.
haha thank you!
The bus system is terrible here, so your correct. You will most likely get a zr better. I live in Barbados and its beautifull.Great video.
haha! Thank you Akilah! Plus I like the ZRs. Good music and speedy service lol
@@Chazeen 😊
How late does the ZR run?
I am a Bajan and it's a nice plc to visit for about 1month as it's slow pace one can become bored, there's lots to do and see,but if here linger the locals will help u out for sure.we do hv the British manners hd mrning afternoon whenever day is.if staying longer you just find ur circle to b with
to hang out regular etc,be safe enjoy if u come.u did a good job.its expensive, bring ur credit cards mo ey,the plc is double or more thn wht u pay at ur home, 🤗😁 welcome, enjoy, very helpful
Great and accurate tips. Thank you for visiting my beautiful island ❤🇧🇧❤
Thank you for having me :)
I am also a bajan, your accuracy here was spot on. Got a subscribe from me.
Haha thank you Chris!
Great summary. As a bajan who looks like a tourist I'm repeating these same things regularly (maybe not the clothes things, ya learn me there).
It's easy to meet people in Barbados! The Beaches...check for groups of locals at the Beach! They will tell you about places to see!
mmm that's another great tip! Thank you!
I live here in Barbados 🇧🇧 I agree with you 💯
U miss out hole town most tourists go there and st Lawrence gap on a Friday sat and Sunday night..bajan here
It is the same in Jamaica and as you say a lot of the stuff comes from us. My constant question was why so expensive when the us is just around the corner. A flight to Florida is about one and a half hours.
oh wow... yea i guess bc most ppl won't hop that flight. I guess we're paying for convenience lol
@@Chazeen I don't know what you mean companies import companies export it's just business. These businesses people do it because they can.
I go to Barbados a lot. This is pretty accurate. Oistins on the weekends is poppin. We send barrels of American products when we plan to stay months at a time. Groceries prices are insane out there. Also we purchase meat locally if we can.
eating locally and sending barrels is the hack for stretching your coins!
I was very apprehensive about watching this but I am happy to report this was a great video!.....You picked up a slight bajan accent as well!
Haha oh yea? I receive it. Thank you Corey!
I love this video. I lived in BIM for 9 months. Just seeing the images and videos. I’ve done and experienced all this. 👍🏾
9 Months! I can imagine how fabulous that was. Planning on going back?
@@Chazeen Definitely. It's a 2nd home to me now. I did a month in October 2022 and headed back in April 2023. What about you?
Hi. Are you sure you are not a Bajan? I am and you are spot on. A very good video and delivered with such clarity. Excellent and come visit again.
Haha I receive it! Thank you Desmond!
I just started following you because on how accurate you are about our island without being negative. I love it and I'm sharing also.
Thank you so much jai! I really appreciate you sharing this video with your friends :) And thank you for your kind words! I love the island and I'm not big on negativity so once again I appreciate that.
Loving these tips chazzy.
😂 thank youuu
Next time you are driving in Barbados get one of your friend to get u a highway manual... It will tell you everything you need to know about driving on the island.
Thank you for that!
Great video ❤
Thank you!
