Hi Lantea, Many thanks from France. After all the videos I watched before taking the plunge, yours is the best! I've just done the brake bleeding on my Dualtron Victor with you by my side for the step-by-step.💪🏽💪🏽
Hello there!. It’s a very nice video on how to bleed the zoom breaks. But i have some questions because im planning to bleed my scooter: 1. Ill be using a red shimano and you’re using a transparent one. How would i know if i flushed out the old oil? 2. What do you do with the leftover oil you used after you bleed your breaks? Do you discard them or you put it back on the new oil container ? I hope you can help me with this.. it’s my first time in doing it and i don’t want to screw my breaks. 🙏🙏🙏
I also used red shimano during my second brake bleed, it works fine. To flush out the old oil unscrew the bottom plug and to release the oil unscrew the top plug and let it drain out. It does not have to be 100%. Collect the old oil in a separate container and throw it out. Dont reuse the old oil.
When I received my Varla Eagle One I had no brakes! The levers pulled all the way to the handlebars. I was pissed to say the least. I had Sram and Shimano bleed kits for my mountain bikes but their fittings didn't fit the master cylinder port of the Zooms. I was desperate to try my new ride out so I took out the bleed screws at the master cylinders and just kept the hole filled with the Shimano mineral oil enough to not allow air down in the plunger and flicked the levers enough to burp but not puke out fluid. After only a dozen or so flicks per side I had full lever on both brakes. I couldn't believe how easy it was! And I was off! - to see how many times I could almost kill myself on a scooter with shitty handling that does 40mph! At least the breaks work great!

Not sure what might be causing the smoke. Maybe if some oil residue was left on the brake disc or brake pads it might be smoking when the brakes heat up during use.
@@Lantea13 i had very much trouble to put in brake pads it took my maybe 3 hours i really pressed out the brake so it could fit . Its still coming smoke i think its to tight how can I lossen the place so its not so tight normally its not like that it happend after i was bleeding the brake
@@fixmyscooter729 Did you place a block between the brake pistons before you started the bleeding? (ruclips.net/video/d4OY8q4Ymks/видео.html) If not, that is the only reason I can think of why the brake pads would be hard to put back and too tight. If you did not use the brake block to keep the spacing for the brake pads, the only way to loosen it is to bleed out some oil and allow the pistons to fully retract and insert the brake block to maintain the correct spacing.
Afaik, it means that you have some air trapped in the brake lines. If you bleed the brakes and get the air bubbles out it should solve the spongy brake problem.
Not sure if its normal, but it is common on stock tyres that are not manufactured perfectly and are not balanced. You can try to balance the wheel with weights (ruclips.net/video/zSzrtAGhc60/видео.html), or if you get a high quality tyre such as PMT it should not wobble if seated correctly. Cheap chinese tyres will wobble as they are not perfectly balanced.
I can't understand why was so difficult ask question ti the direct seller... Anyway , they tell me to use " mineral oil,DOT 4 " So why here i see mineral oil but whith 3 " not DOT " write on the box??? all zoob brake was the same ? That looks like my ( gunai 5600W )
I had the same problem, no seller can even tell me who manufacturers the zoom brakes, or provide a manual to them. The ZOOM brakes use mineral oil, Not DOT fluid, do not use any DOT fluid or you can damage the seals. There is no manual to the zoom brakes and no bike or scooter shop sells zoom oil (at least where I am), so your best option is to just buy any brand mineral oil that can be used in bicycle brakes. The original oil in my zoom brakes had red colour so the closest to it is the Shimano mineral oil, I got a different one because that was the only one they had at my local bike shop at the time.
Not sure If you're still responding to comments but can I use any bleed kit for these brakes or do I need the specific one you're using? Thanks in advance
Hi, always responding :) You can use other bleed kits, but you need to make sure the bleed kit you use has the correct size adaptors to use with the brakes. Usually the bleed kit has a list of compatible brakes its designed for.
Hi, the scooter came with the zoom hydraulic brakes already installed. If you have the version with mechanical breaks its possible to upgrade to hydraulic brakes. You can check out this post www.reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/comments/rq0nn2/ghost_mechanical_to_full_hydraulic_nutt_brake/ where a user upgraded to NUTT brakes.
I bought the bleed kit in a local scooter shop, but I linked the US and German amazon store pages in the video description where you can buy the same kit, check the video description above for all the used tools. The EZmtb bleed kit had the needed adapters for the zoom brakes. Let me know if you are still having trouble finding it. here is another link I found www.amazon.de/-/en/Bicycle-Mountain-Hyaraulic-Bleeding-Mineral/dp/B08D922KYF/ or for CA e.g. www.amazon.ca/Professional-Universal-Hydraulic-Bicycle-Mineral/dp/B07FYFDNSY/ you will find more if you search for EZmtb bleed kit. This one should work as well as it specifically mentions zoom brakes, but I have not tested it, so no guarantees www.amazon.de/Cycobyco-Mineral-Hydraulic-Shimano-HS33-Nutt/dp/B07845XW4X/
I don't think so. You can adjust the spacing of the brake lever with the tiny screw (imgur.com/a/pLNUNSU) but that won't really improve the braking. You can also try a top bleed. You take out the reservoir screw on the brake lever, put in the yellow funnel (with a bit of hose and a hose clamp), put some oil into it and press the brake lever several times until all air bubbles come out, then secure the hose clamp and remove the funnel with the remaining oil, and screw back the reservoir screw. A top bleed can help a bit, if you don't want to do the full bleed; but if your brakes are very bad you really should do a full bleed as in the video, as the top bleed is of limited help if you have a ton of air in the brake lines. If you have any questions about the full process in the video, feel free to ask, and I will try to help where I can. If you really don't feel like doing it yourself, any competent bike shop service should be able to bleed the brakes for you, as they are basically the same as on bicycles.
In that case I am not sure what size o-rings it uses, I only had to deal with both my calipers leaking, but in the end I was not able to fix them even with new orings and just replaced the whole zoom brakes with nutt hydraulic brakes. Maybe someone else has experience with the brake levers, if not, you might just have to try and disassemble them and see what orings or other parts are faulty. The main problem with zoom brakes is that there is no service manual or any other manual or documentation available from anyone about the brakes; and the only advice I got from the seller was to replace the whole brakes when they leak...
@@Lantea13 its actualy not orings , its a different type of seal , kooks like in shimano leawers , I was ither thinking to order shimano seals and mayby ill get Lucky with the size , or just replace it with normal orring , in theory it should work ,its only low pressure side seal , and other leavers using just normal orings
I've a Buyoeda scooter with same zoom brakes, and my front brake started squirting fluid where the brake pads are, I don't know what to do or what caused it. Has anyone encountered this?
I have not encountered this issue, but it could be due to the rubber o-ring in the piston being damaged. If the leak is big you could try taking apart the caliper to see what is broken inside and ask a local bike repair shop if they have a spare part that would work. The problem with zoom brakes is that there are no spare parts, manuals, or guides available anywhere for them, so you will most likely need to replace the whole caliper if there is a leak.
@@Lantea13 Thanks so much for the quick reply. I guess i'll have to order new ones. I just don't know what model those are, they're exactly like the ones in your video. All i see on amazon is HB-875. @@lukasgadzijevas7163 From my research they should be the HB-875-E this is what I was able to find out about them imgur.com/a/jFBpwiN I also got a leak in my zoom brakes, but at the banjo where it connects to the caliper. Luckily its a slow leak so I still did not get around to fixing it. I ordered replacement NUTT brakes instead of zoom, as I heard they are more reliable and you can find bit more info about them online. I ordered them direct from china as it was about €60 cheaper compared to a local shop. But you need to make sure they are compatible with your scooter setup. From what I remember there were some sellers in EU that sell a replacement zoom brake caliper for around €50 iirc. The full NUTT set cost about €115 from allie seller.
@@lukasgadzijevas7163 Found the site in my favorites with the zoom brake caliper fastride.fr/en/pieces-pour-dualtron/1764-etrier-avant-de-frein-zoom.html and fastride.fr/en/pieces-pour-dualtron/1781-etrier-arriere-de-frein-zoom.html might be the cheaper option if you want to stick with zoom brakes.
Yes, that should work fine. I used it myself when I needed to bleed the brakes again. In theory any mineral oil for bicycle brakes should work. If you are switching between different oil brands its best to drain all the old oil out first, before filling the system with the new mineral oil. The original oil in my Zoom Brakes had red colour similar to the Shimano mineral oil.
The red Shimano mineral-oil is (according to label) compatibel with all mineral oils, and will work on any system that uses mineral oil. I would however do as Lantea here writes and first drain old oil if you are changing brand and/or if the old oil has not been changed for several years. Another suggestion is to use the mineral oil that is easiest available to you.
I did it after 450km, but it was not good out of the box. I only did a top bleed back then, and it was usable. But as I had more downtime over winter I wanted to do it properly to get ready for Spring riding.
I am not sure. These were the stock brakes on the VDM-10 scooter. There is no model number on them that I could see. They are the same I have seen on many other electric scooters, such as Vsett, Dualtron, Zero, etc. I tried to get a manual for the brakes, but the manufacturer of the scooter as well as several sellers I asked all said there is no manual or more detailed information on the Zoom Brakes.
Fail 15:53, Should never reuse a lower grade Chinese knockoff brake caliper cotter pin, and Always replace said pin with premium grade cotter pins. Said reused pin will eventually fail & loosing or back out when your failing to brake while failing to beat a train at a train crossing and that will be the end of you in a instant, cheap life with a cheaper unsafe result.
Well, it held up for 12+ months and through several more brake bleeds, until I replaced the whole brakes with NUTT ones because of the constant oil leaks on the zoom brakes.

@@Lantea13 Best video I saw online actually expalinning this procedure. Thank you
@@Nuno_Tomas Your welcome, glad it helped you out :)
Do you have a link for the bleed kit . I bought one and It doesn’t have the fittings for the caliper nor for the master cylinder on the brake handle .
Yes, the links to the bleed kit I used are in the video description.

I was bleeding and put new oil IN my dualtron but when brake it Comes smoke fro the brake . What is this i noticed it direktly
What does it mean if the brake lever feels spongy after folding and unfolding it and then the pressure comes back after priming the lever?
Afaik, it means that you have some air trapped in the brake lines. If you bleed the brakes and get the air bubbles out it should solve the spongy brake problem.
At the end of the vidrio, when testing no rubbing in the pads on the rotor, your tire seemes to wobble. Is this normal?
Not sure if its normal, but it is common on stock tyres that are not manufactured perfectly and are not balanced. You can try to balance the wheel with weights (ruclips.net/video/zSzrtAGhc60/видео.html), or if you get a high quality tyre such as PMT it should not wobble if seated correctly. Cheap chinese tyres will wobble as they are not perfectly balanced.
I can't understand why was so difficult ask question ti the direct seller...
Anyway , they tell me to use " mineral oil,DOT 4 "
So why here i see mineral oil but whith 3 " not DOT " write on the box???
all zoob brake was the same ?
@@Lantea13 how STUPID can be this china seller!!??! They tell me mineral dot, like if was the same thing not the opposite
Very helpful! Thanks very much!
Hi bro can i ask how you installed your hydraulic brakes 😊
Hi, the scooter came with the zoom hydraulic brakes already installed. If you have the version with mechanical breaks its possible to upgrade to hydraulic brakes. You can check out this post www.reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/comments/rq0nn2/ghost_mechanical_to_full_hydraulic_nutt_brake/ where a user upgraded to NUTT brakes.
Where did you buy the tools for bleeding the caliper?
the say shimano bleedinh kit wont fit.
Thanks.
Is there a way to adjust the brakes without bleeding them? I just received my scooter and my back brakes don’t have much stopping power at all
I don't think so.
Thank you for this video!!
Hello , my zoom brake is leaking from pump , did anyone had this problem and know the o-ring size to fix it ? 😀
By pump, do you mean the brake lever on the handlbars or the brake caliper on the brake disc?
@@Lantea13 brake lever
Or i might have to order from China. Today's a terrible day for me, because I use the scooter for work :(. But thank you so much for the information. Hopefully i'll get it fixed soon.
@@lukasgadzijevas7163 From my research they should be the HB-875-E this is what I was able to find out about them imgur.com/a/jFBpwiN
I also got a leak in my zoom brakes, but at the banjo where it connects to the caliper.
Is the red Shimano mineral oil also suitable?
Nice instructions. How many miles/km did you have on your ghost before having to do this maintenance?
I did it after 450km, but it was not good out of the box. I only did a top bleed back then, and it was usable. But as I had more downtime over winter I wanted to do it properly to get ready for Spring riding.
what zoom model is that?
I am not sure. These were the stock brakes on the VDM-10 scooter. There is no model number on them that I could see. They are the same I have seen on many other electric scooters, such as Vsett, Dualtron, Zero, etc.
I tried to get a manual for the brakes, but the manufacturer of the scooter as well as several sellers I asked all said there is no manual or more detailed information on the Zoom Brakes.
I did bit more research; it looks like the model number of the brakes is ZOOM HB875-E. That is all I could find, still no manual/parts list, etc.
