Very informative! Thank You!
What about use on leishmaniasis lesions? Do you have suggestions for those?
Great video and informative as I'm just starting to use Santyl. I find when putting on Santyl it sticks to my fingers or whatever I've tried to use vs getting into actual wound. What is the easiest and most efficient way to apply to superficial wounds? Thank you!
Apply to the gauze cover dressing about the size of the wound and place on top of the wound.
Are hydrocolloidal dressings contraindicated when Santyl is used? I only hear gauze mentioned. Is gauze preferred in a moderately moist pressure wound?
A would would be at high risk of maceration with a hydrocolloid dressing . Gauze is a good topping choice for this cream.
what is best for slough tissue that shows some tendon, surrounded by granulated tissue (located on knee and leg). I have both medihoney and santyl and sometimes determine which one is best to use. What would promote healing the quickest.
Also, I usually put an ointment on the granulated tissue. Is it okay to put santyl on it?
You actually have to be extremely careful debriding around a tendon as you could cause damage. I would see a dr who specializes in wounds for proper care . The tendon needs moisture management. I can not make specific suggestions in a case like this over yt.
what happens if you don't use Santyl and continue to use Silvedene? I'm really scared to switch from Silvedene because I don't want it to burn or be any more painful than it already is. Wouldn't I be going backwards in my healing process with Santyl??
I not sure I understand the context of this question. does your dr want you to switch to Santyl? I do not understand why it would burn, If you are experiencing burning on application of any wound product you may have an allergy or irritation to that product, and it should be discontinued. At that point I would stay away from silver wound products.
I used Santyl it doesn't burn..I have 4 tubes unopened left over...that stuff is like $500/tube! that's what is insurance was billed anyway...holy moly!! but it works. but a note to remember....it will debris a wound but it will also wear away at OUTER healthy skin...not the skin inside the wound though. That was told to me by healthcare team so take it as you want to.
What would an appropriate secondary dressing be?
It depends on the amount of drainage. Although In general gauze or foam for light to moderate drainage with santyl works good.
@@NurseAlyssa39 Thank you!!
Is it good for warts?
no it is not you will need to use a wart specific over the counter medication. just talk with your local pharmacist.
Could a Sorbact bandage product be used over Santyl? It offers antimicrobial action without the use of chemicals.
It can be, as long as the wound has moderate amout of exudate just for moisture management.
Is it safe for dogs
Unfortunately I can not advise for that question. I'm sure you could call a vet and ask. It is used for debridement of a wound.
