    Can you use hydrocolloid with Triad paste? Or will it keep the wound too moist???

    • @NurseAlyssa39
      @NurseAlyssa39 3 дня назад

      No these have 2 seperate function , triad is meant to be used on its own as a bandage for hard to dress areas such as the tailbone region.

    Thank you for this. I scraped my leg when my dad passed trying to clear out his apartment. I should add Im also a type 1 diabetic and a smoker(I know it’s terrible). Anyway the scrape went from a half inch to almost the size of a baseball after getting infected. Then it seemed to be dead skin on top so I thought it should be removed. After that I spent months and months mostly trying to keep it under a fan or somewhere that it could dry out and scab over but it really never did. I could dry it overnight if I kept my leg exposed and under a fan, but as soon as I would start my day and begin to move around it always got soft right away and I would inevitably brush against something and the bit of scab would tear off or it would itch and I’d pick at it. Finally after lots of research I’ve gotten some large alginate bandages off Amazon. And have been cutting them to fit the wound, which is kind of egg shaped at this point. With a band of white and I assume dead skin around the perimeter. They seem to be working well. There is no shortage of moisture. Having a tough time finding clear secondary bandages to be able to see when I should change it. But I think I can tell by now. My main goal was to seal everything in with my secondary dressing. And the most I’ve been able to get is about 3 days until the exoduses(that’s probably wrong but I can’t recall what you called the fluid that is constantly produced) find their way under the tape cause the alginates are full. That’s when I change otherwise I’ll just ruin pants and socks. Im sorry that was way longer than I intended. My question is, if that all made sense, how long should I be continuing to use the alginate dressings? Should it get to a point where it will simply stop leaking all this fluid? I know you’ll say I should see my doc and I am going to be. Have an appointment next thurs. I just wanted your opinion as well? If you know and can share. I realized it’s not medical advice. But everything you said about the dressings makes sense. I can tell you’re very knowledgeable: I’ve never been too worried about a scar or even the crater that will likely remain if I can get this to heal. I also don’t want to keep using it steadily if I shouldn’t. But another thing ive come to know after reading is that unlike small cuts, large wounds do require a somewhat moist environment to heal properly. Any info you can share would be amazing. Sorry this is so long. Maybe there’s something I should watch for to know that it’s ready for a different type of dressing. Or to be left open to the elements for a time or for good. Thank you for your video it is very helpful and reassuring.

    • @NurseAlyssa39
      @NurseAlyssa39 8 дней назад

      You can use alginate as long as the wound has a 3-4+ amout of exudate (sounds like you are at a 3+ as you can keep the dressing on for 3 days). You want to keep the wound eye ball moist. If you have a white ring around the wound it is staying a but to wet so you can either 1)change the dressing sooner 2) use a mesorb cover dressing instead to increase absorption 3) use a skin prep pad around the wound edges to protect the butter skin White skin around the wound means maceration, and maceration will cause the wound to open up more or delay wound healing. I hope this helps ! Remember, eye ball moist and change the dressing every 2-3 days is best for optimal healing . In addition with any chronic wound diet also plays a significant role and is often overlooked. I do have a cookbook available with wonderful recipes along with a list of ingredients that you can simply add to your own favorite recipes. Here is the link if you are interested 📖Cookbook for wound healing amzn.to/4hFwFXI In addition, please ensure to keep your diabetes controlled as this will help. If you follow all of these suggestions, it will optimize your body for the best/fastest possible outcome.

    Hello, I have a small wound on the outside of my foot that won't go away, near the heel. It looks like a notch, 2-3 cm long and 1 mm or less in width. I had a blow to my leg about a month ago, it formed a scab, and along the edge of the lower part is that wound. I don't have any pain, I feel normal, I can walk normally. I put on a band-aid and a bandage every day and before that I clean the wound with a combination of warm water and apple cider vinegar. I keep my leg above body level whenever I sit. I don't know what to do to make it heal. Should I walk anyway, can I put on shoes and walk outside?

    • @rampart-hmm3
      @rampart-hmm3 11 дней назад

      @@NurseAlyssa39 No, unless I've become diabetic since my last blood draw, half a year ago. I don't have any symptoms, I always feel the same. I noticed that there is a yellowish color on the edge of the scab. I don't know if it's an infection. It doesn't hurt, maybe very little, there is no redness or swelling around. I washed my leg with a gentle stream of warm water and soap twice a day, and later applied antibiotic gel and gauze with a patch. Maybe I should leave the dressing on for a day or two, I really don't know. But thanks a lot for the answer!

    I have just fimished radiation in the pubic area for vulva cancer. A swelling started before the end of the treatment that the doctor said might leak. It did at first for a couple of days then it stopped. Over the past week it has been dripping and even had a very stinky cottage cheese like texture come out. I keep it irrigated with saline solution many times a day. The doctor does not seem concerned.What else should I be doing? Antiseptic ointment? Is it time for a wound care doctor?

    • @NurseAlyssa39
      @NurseAlyssa39 29 дней назад

      Try to keep it dry and clean. Clean with saline multiple times per day. I personally would want a wound culture taken to see if you need an antibiotic as this could just be drainage due to treatment.
