This one's just magical 😍😍😍 Goosebump Central every time! Their five part harmonies are ALWAYS special. Kevin singing instead of beatboxing is like a secret weapon, and whenever they spring him on us it's a gift ❤
In their concerts, they always have one song where they sing into a single mic -- no beatboxing, just beautiful five-part harmony.
The first time they did this was because they had a mic malfunction, in St. Louis in 2014. They decided to sing without mics and the whole venue fell silent to hear them. It was so magical that they continued to do it in subsequent concerts, initially without mics, eventually into a single mic.
Such a heavenly performance, I love how Avi warm rich voice was so pronounced in this. This was a quick decision to do this, not planned, so lovely.❤
For me, the upgrade on this is a change from the traditional Christmas carol to what is basically a lullaby - something I can totally picture a mother or father singing to their child to help them get to sleep. It's not sleepy in itself, it's just so peaceful and gentle, it makes me want it to go on much longer.
Apparently this was filmed in a church in Germany while they were on tour (much like Avi himself did earlier this year when he was filmed in a church in Utrecht, Netherlands while on his second European tour, singing his original "All Is Well" in those great church acoustics). It's also been said that Avi did the arrangement along with Ben Bram PTX's longtime producer/arranger.
It has Avi's touch with the classical arrangement of it and the soaring blended harmonies.
@@Gwennedd Right. His minor in college (his major being opera and classical voice) was composition and arranging, so he and Ben were able to do wonders together, such as "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" and "Run To You".

This song has always been meant as a lullaby. I love that they didn't "turn it up." That warmth and peace you talked about feeling is the intention. You can imagine them singing an infant to sleep.
This version brings me such peace. As you are finding out, Pentatonix is in a league of their own. Doesn't mean others aren't good...just means Pentatonix is in the forefront!! Love your reactions to them...your reactions are the best!!
Again, PTX's version is my favorite version. They are so good at pulling emotions out of you in their songs. Happy New Year to everyone!
They filmed this in a German old church (maybe the Cologne Cathedral, don't really know it) . Knowledge from other comments (and a faint memory about a visit to Cologne with my families, suddenly sweat harmonies and afterwards suddenly the Cathedral was closed for a visiting group from the USA who had paid for it and had only one day in town. Maybe that was PTX, it could be but I hadn't known them then)

I miss my Avi. I know he has a solo career and I listen to him all the time. I know that Matt is great and I enjoy listening to them with Matt. That does not change the fact that I miss my Avi. ✌❤😎
The "sleep" segment reminds me of snow gently falling to the ground and turning everything white and it just brings peace to your heart. How can something be so beautifully haunting?

I think Avi and Kevin arranged this one to be a lullaby. Definitely one of my favorites! Please react to Avi 's solo music. His music is fabulous. Maybe start with his first solo song in 2019 Change on the Rise or his latest release When I'm a Fool live from Sunset Sound studios with producer Shooter Jennings.
Avi's solo music is very different from PTX but you still have harmonies, it's just Avi harmonizing with himself. Plus you get an excellent singer/songwriter.

I hope you’ll listen to Avi’s solo music at some point, it’s a treat to hear him use his full range! Change on the rise is a good one to start with, that or the live 7Layers video of All is well!

That "sleep, sleep" part they did felt like a lullaby to me. I love that you got goosebumps, and it moved you. It's a beautiful thing. I looked through your playlist for Be My Eyes, Sing, originals of theirs or covers like Mad World, Rather Be, or Royals! I'd love you to react to those. Thanks!

You are making sense. I will admit that I snickered that you were waiting for the drop to happen. This just hits the feels. Ptx has some fabulous lullabies. Light in the hallway is one, literally. Scott wrote it for his newborn nephew, and asked Avi to sing it. No video, but it was featured when the trio was on "Bones".
They were very young, they've grown so much. Always beautiful.
Yes this one sooo beautiful. No bells or whistles, just them and there voices. And I agree, a subtle upgrade and so powerful. They have always had the ability to " make me feel" . I think that's what sets them apart for me personally. Thank you again for a great reaction..

I agree. This is such a special performance and hard to describe. I’m not a musician (can’t carry a tune) but somehow they managed to make me feel like I was a part of this. It’s like they wrap you up in the vocals and the listener is part of the performance. Magical is the right word.

It's hauntingly lovely. It makes me feel as if I was a member of the cathedral's congregation several hundred years ago listening to the monks singing the daily Offices. Reverential.

I think you would love hearing one of Avi's solo career songs 'Change On The Rise', Kevin's solo cover of 'True Colors', and Mitch did a cover of Billie Eilish's 'Your Power' during quarentine it is so hauntingly beautiful!

Je suis totalement d'accord. Même sans rajouter les petits trucs habituels à la sauce PTX qu'on adore et en restant très proche de l'original, ils arrivent, grâce à leurs talents et leurs harmonies, à faire de leur version, la meilleure que personnellement je n'ai jamais entendue. L'émotion qui se dégage de ce live est juste dingue. Je dois avouer que j'ai lâchée ma petite larme la première fois que je l'ai entendue. En tout cas, merci pour ta réaction.
