This was filmed in a church in Germany. They were on tour there, and stopped here to make this video. There is a newer "Silent Night" from their album last year, "Holidays Around the World". They sing with the King's Singers from Britian. It is EPIC! As always, Jacob, thank you for continuing your Holiday journey with PTX. I enjoy each one and always learn something new as you break it down.

My favorite part of this arrangement (other than the sleep part) is the fact that the trio do a rising phrase on the word "child" and the baseline remains straight but in the very next line on the word "mild" the trio keep a straight tone while Avi does a rising baseline. It is subtle but magical.

Hey Jacob, so they recorded this in a very old church in Germany while on tour. The natural reverb of the building and the alcove they were in just made this song so beautiful. Hymn type songs like this where your top "tenor" and your bottom "bass" singers stand out in these gorgeous natural settings are so lovely.
I didn't double-check, but I don't think you've done "The First Noel" it's another one of theirs where Mitch and Avi stand out, and it's gorgeous. You should check it out, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it. Always enjoy your reactio s, hope you're doing well.❤

This version is just heavenly, which depicts Christmas perfectly.

This is my favorite Christmas song of theirs. This live version. Avi's bass gives me chills. Kirsten and Mitch with those beautiful high notes. Kevin is severely underrated in this performance. His movement underneath towards the ending just gives such a haunting quality. Thanks for reacting!

They've always been extremely unaware of their perfection and completely comfortable with it!

About what you said at the end: Last year during the holidays, I was at a shopping center and there was a string ensemble playing. They played Hallelujah and I realized right away that they were doing Pentatonix"s arrangement. For instance, during Mitch's solo, the others do not sing, and so they only had 1 violin play at that moment.

Me too. Scott admits to prompters to remember words at concerts, but 200 + arrangements... just wow

I suspect this is completely live with no added effects. The reason I say that is that they mentioned at the time that they chose this church for its acoustics. I used to get a tremendous "reverb" sound from my flute when I played in churches, or the best, my tiled bathroom! Thanks for the reaction!

The video is definitely synonymous with the album it was on. This song is one of my top two Pentatonix holiday numbers, along with O Come All Ye Faithful.

This is one of my favorites. I have heard that Avi arranged this one, but I do not remember the source, so I don't know how accurate that is. It does seem to fit in with the style of music he likely spent a lot of time singing in his college years. Thanks for the reaction. Like Charlotte, I hope you get to Avi's newest song after you are finished the PTX album.

Nice trip down memory lane. Thanks. It would be nice if you were to react to Pentatonix "The Sing Off" journey while you're feeling nostalgic. Even if you don't react to the entire Season 3 season, react to performances 7, 10 and 12. It will remind you what they did live for national TV then and still do to make the "full" sounds today. They recorded "Silent Night" in a church in Europe while on tour there. They chose the location for the acoustics. There are Behind The Scenes videos and PTXperience videos showing them working on arrangements while on tour. Some on buses, hotel rooms, backstage, etc. They choose who sings what depending on what would sound best for the songs. For a current one, the Behind The Scenes video for "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" shows them starting and working on the arrangement in a backstage dressing room while on tour.

Always love your break downs of PTX performances, and I love your point of the fact that there’s no room for error bc they are the vocals and Instruments

While you were talking about remembering parts.... Scott is notorious for forgetting lyrics, even to songs that HE WROTE! (like Light in the Hallway) 😂 I'll bet at any concert you see them at, there'll be a monitor at the edge of the stage with the lyrics

One of my favorites from ptx. I believe Avi arranged this one, as well as the First Noel.
FYI Avi released a new song on Friday called Healing. I would love to hear your take on it. Cheers!

I absolutely agree with Coco. Avi's new song "Healing" is an example of simplicity being the perfect approach, especially in a song as deeply emotional as this one. And I believe she's right about the arrangement here and on "The First Noel" (and maybe also on "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy", arranged with Ben).

@@charlottevan_8 Silent Night and The First Noel are my favorites with Avi. This arrangement of Silent Night is one of the most beautiful I've ever heard, and The First Noel really shows off Avi's opera training. Both are stunning. Yes, I did read that Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy was an idea that Avi brought to the group, and I believe he did the arrangement with Ben. (Avi's new song is amazing ❤)

Not quite what you were talking about but in a similar vein:
In 1969 Herbie Hancock released an album called "Fat Albert Rotunda" which included a track called "Tell me a Bed Time Story" and in 1978 Quincy Jones covered it on his "Sounds ... and Stuff like that" album. Herbie Hancock played electric piano on that new version and a violinist called Harry Lookofski , working from a transcript, overdubbed (not replaced) one of his solos by multi-tracking 15 violins to replicate the keyboard. The combined sounds are interesting and that version is the one that was released on the Quincy Jones album.
    Where there's a genius (or three) there's a way.

I second the suggestion of the "Silent Night" from PTX's 2022 album, a collaboration with The King's Singers from the UK, in 11-part harmony. The King's Singers is made up of people who used to sing in boys / girls choirs in UK cathedrals. They are a capella, but in more of a classical style, singing everything from Renaissance church music to 21st century classical compositions and pop covers. They were founded in the 60s and have had many member changes over the decades, but currently have 6 male singers -- 2 countertenors (like Mitch), a tenor, two baritones and a bass. Only an audio is available -- ruclips.net/video/g6NiUKWYFFI/видео.html
