    I know that this is a Sim forum, but in most real ga aircraft with a G1000, FLC is used for climb and VS for descent. Alternately you can use FLC for both, but it's not considered a good practice to use VS for climb. Here's why:
    VS uses pitch to maintain your vertical speed (these autopilot controls have no control over the throttle setting). If your vertical speed drops below the rate you set, the aircraft will pitch up in an attempt to reach the VS you set. If your power is set too low, or if your power level drops (because of increasing altitude and lower air density, or because you have an engine problem, or you overheated the engine in climb, or because you turned the carburetor heat on accidentally... etc) the autopilot will pitch up to the point of stalling (or to the point of overheating the engine) trying to reach your VS setting. And that's dangerous if you're not paying close attention.
    VS is most often used on descent because you've usually calculated the point at which you'll begin your descent (Top of Descent) based on a particular rate of descent in fpm. VS makes sure your descent point calculations work out right. And it will reduce the down pitch if you exceed the rate you set, so there are no safety issues.
    FLC uses pitch to maintain the airspeed setting you set. If you set power too low, or lose power, or partially lose power on climb, the aircraft will reduce pitch up to keep your airspeed at the FLC setting, and that's the appropriate and safe thing to do in that circumstance until the pilot takes over. Plus maintaining the prescribed climb airspeed or higher is important to keeping the engine within the proper operating temperature.
    FLC works fine for descent too, but because you're more often interested in your rate of descent to make sure your arrive at pattern altitude at the right point, VS is used more commonly for this.

    • @jcbak
      @jcbak 5 лет назад

      VS does not use pitch......the pilot sets the VS. You need to watch your airspeed. FLC uses pitch.

    • @glibsonoran
      @glibsonoran 5 лет назад +2

      @@jcbak The pilot sets the vertical speed in VS, and sets the indicated airspeed in FLC. The autopilot uses pitch (elevator trim) to hold the pilot's setting.

    Jeff Favignano one of the reasons it darts around on landing is when in reverse a lot of the air movement over the tail is blanked out. Happens all the time in my plane at work.

    Great video as always! I never thought I would spend so much on a GA plane but it's completely worth it. They did an amazing job, and this plane sets a new standard for me when it comes to GA aircraft. The idea of feeling like you actually "own" the plane by taking care of maintenance and how it "remembers" the way you had it configured after the previous flight is awesome and adds a new level of fun to the sim, at least for me. The ability to create and customize your own tail number is an awesome bonus. I wish more GA aircraft had that feature. I really hope the guys at Hot Start eventually make a business jet and with the same features!

      X-Plane 11 is a sim that I have had and loved for 3 years, it’s a nice sim, especially for IFR flying and third party content. MSFS2020 is not as serious as it’s predecessor or xplane. I do recommend you invest in xplane, you’re going to have issues from time to time with some custom content,but it’s nothing that you or the rest of the community can’t solve.

    I found Flight Level Change instead of Vertical Speed works quite well and more managable say your 150kts and press FLC it will maintain that speed throughout the climb and when descending it will decend to the speed your going and using the throttle as required. More throttle = small vs descent and less = more steep descent :)
