This channel is like taking a college level course (but for free) - the methods for assessing the microbiota environment and subsequent absorption is key - this video reminded me of a quote that I heard on a podcast (can’t remember where or whom) - “The road to health is paved with good intestines.”
totally love how magnus posts only what is necessary rather than posting just for the sake of posting streak, thanks @magnus and @suzanne, i like that thing you told about lactose intolerance, myself i have had that and when i slowly introduced buttermilk (milk without the fat) and then milk , i actually can now don't have the intolerance.

If you liked this video, you may also be interested to hear 3 common mistakes people make when trying to fix gut health. They include: adding a probiotic to help with excessive gas and bloating (that's just one piece of the puzzle), eliminating a food for 4 days (best to try eliminating for 2 weeks), and not thinking about the root causes!
Thanks for sharing this! Additionally, one mistake that people make when trying to fix gut health is eliminating a food for 4 days in hopes it will fix gut health. It's best to try eliminating the food for at least 2 weeks!
11:34 this is very interesting because I was told by a doctor at the Royal Women's Hospital (Melbourne, Australia) that my daughter was lactose intolerant when she was born. She used to get very mucus-y with her baby formula (wasn't able to breast feed). When I changed to soya formula it stopped and she seemed much better. Granted, she is now in her 20s. So science has progressed quite a bit since then. But I was told by a specialist doctor (can't remember if she was a paediatrician/gynecologist, etc - but still specialist) in a hospital.
Similar story my mom could not breast feed me because her milk made me sick and the only formula that worked was a soy base. This lady just blew my mind because I am in my 30s and still have issues with any dairy product and have been told by doctors that i just cant digest it.
I recently gave up dairy. I tried to eat a small amount to get my body to produce lactase but I had severe symptoms for months. I love cheese and vegan cheeses are not the same. But the other dairy free options are just as good if not better.
Just like all your other videos, this one is very informative and pleasant to watch I know that you have specific videos for various nutrition-related topics and some tackle some nutrition myths, but I feel you should do dedicated ''Food Myths'' or ''Nutrition Myths'' videos! There are _sooo_ many myths related to food and nutrition, it would be great to have clear and concise videos about them - what's a myth, what's real, where did it originate, and of course verifiable sources. 5-10 myths per ''Myths Videos'' would go a long way!
How do we know as a consumer, which products have integrity? Not only in the food (organic/fair trade/ gmo) industry but also skin care? hair care? supplements? etc?
True that healthy people don't need probiotics and that some people even in bad health situations don't need add others probiotics but need to promote the bacteria they already had. But is true that a lot of people(like me) doesn't have even an acceptable amount of good bacteria, some strains naturally found in human gut are missing. For example my gut test revealed that I don't have lactobacillus and bifidobacterium, except for lactobacillus salivarius and bifidobacterium lomgum at very very very low level (0,1 circa when they should be 100 times more). Luckily a good amount of Blautia, faecalibacter and Akermansia muciniphila(too much of it). I am totally sure that antibiotics treatments that I did two years ago, had totally destroyed my gut, luckily no yeasts, fungis, infection was found in my gut. I am already on probiotic-perosnalized diet treatment since 4 months, now something is starting to work but my health still unstable. Sound harsh to repopulate my gut, every advice could be very accepted, bye
Appreciate all the videos ... Im focusing now on water intake ... I was thinking/wondering if Magnus has completed a video/talk yet about water ???? 🤔 💡
We totally agree! Especially since a survey from 2018 on 71,000 Americans found that 61% had at least 1 bothersome gut issue! The most common gut symptom was acid reflux or GERD, then abdominal pain, then bloating.

I wonder if it's the same with things like the keto diet, where people eat less than 20 grams of carbs a day, and then eat carbs again and feel like crap - they say it's the wheat/gluten but perhaps it's your body not making the necessary enzymes (maybe amalase?) to digest it?

Thanks to Magnus and Suzanne for bringing out the fact that product claims are often misleading and/or not really effective. Bioavailability is everything .. can your body take it up and use it?
OK.........BUT there is one thing she hasn't pointed out..........As we grow older, our GUT bacteria decreases and gets weaker. And that is one reason why we need to supplement our GUT with probiotics, prebiotics and fermented foods...........She seems to be focusing more on 'scaring off' people rather than critically analyse things! Also, not all "FIBER" is GUT friendly even if that is from vegetables or fruits. Infact,in certain situations, eating fiber rich foods may upset our digestive system. She hasn't pointed it out!
There is 2 or 3 type of fiber. Not all is easy digestible and some are sensitive to high fiber diets especially when fiber comes with natural food sugars that easily fermenting in our guts. Like people that have Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), FODMAP diet helps.

A few of her comments aren't entirely true - you absolutely do have some babies that are lactose intolerant. And in fact it’s quite common - 2 kids in my baby group we’re extremely lactose intolerant
I drank almost one liter of milk everyday before I got lactose intolerant. I find it hard to believe that I can be able to digest it again by adding a bit to my diet over time
Amazing content! Love everything about this guy! However, she is saying you don’t see lactose intolerance in babies? Why are there so many formulas out there? Sensitive formula, soy formula? I don’t know….. interesting…..
if its a rash its probably not lactose intolerance but an allergy. but either way - dont feed him dairy. I had a dairy allergy as an infant so bad that i had the runs all the time until they put me on a soy formula. they thought I had outgrown it, but it actually still causes me stomach problems.
I was diagnosed with lactose intolerance at 2 years old (1988). There were around 5 of us born within around 6 months of each other that were all diagnosed with lactose intolerance. We were all in the gestation period when Chernobyl happened and the Germans didn't take their cows off the fields. I can't say it's linked (just a theory and observation) but I can say that my intolerance did not develop or manifest in adulthood. Either I'm a scientific anomaly or that piece of information isn't correct...
I'm defanitly one that can't have gluten if I eat to much I acturly start to throw up.. Tho I'm not seliac but glutin foods make me very sick.. And so hard hearing people say it's not a thing..
Not all gluten is equal there are many type of it. Try ancient grains like spelt, buckwheat, millet barley etc. Avoid modern type of wheat and check if you can use rye and oats.
Since yogurt has probiotics it's been suggested to eat in diet...however yogurt has been funny..it either caused weight gain from sugar overload or me overeating it post workout..or me losing weight with it when eating as a meal with fruit or snack in between light meals..then as I got older dairy bloated me up..and yogurt I found constipates. Sorry tmi just keepin it real ;)
I have had my poo sequenced twice as I have severe gut issues caused by extreme abx infusions. I am now totally allergic/reactive to both Lacto and Bifido bacterium in all probiotics and fermented foods. All my gut specialist have advised the same, "we know how to sequence" "but" "we do not know how to correct and recolonize the beneficial bacteria back into the intestinal tract. More research is needed, is the standard answer by my hospital specialist gastro doctors. Prof, with due respect, you cannot recolonize permanently the gut bacteria in those who have severe gut issues. I think this presentation may benefit some mild gut issues, but not those who have more serious issues. Sophisticated, Targeted marketing.

With all the respect this lady is misleading on gluten intolerance. I am and once I ate gluten back my prolactin went to the roof and so my cortisol to the point 3 doctors in 2 different continents had no doubt I had a brain tumor. I stopped and it went down in one month adding also herbals and nutrients known to lower cortisol and prolactin and the doctors were astonished 😯 of the big drop in short time
What's your tolerance to ancient grains that have less irritable gluten type like spelt, millet or do not have all like corn, rice. Modern wheats that are in highly processed white bread are mostly couse of problem.
If you liked this video, you may also be interested in knowing that it's really important to look at root causes of what is causing your gut symptoms, in order to improve them!

Yes, I agree. Lactose intolerance in babies is a well documented problem
I recently gave up dairy. I tried to eat a small amount to get my body to produce lactase but I had severe symptoms for months. I love cheese and vegan cheeses are not the same. But the other dairy free options are just as good if not better.
I love honest factual videos like this that really show the science behind things. While breaking it all down. Great video Magnus!!
Never clicked so fast and liked the video before I even begin to watch 🤪-only this channel!

She only one of the world leading experts on this subject..
excellent content
i was lactose intolerant as a kid in the 90s. i prob ate too much dairy. we arent meant to have baby cows milk.
The videos are really great! But this lots of ads are so annoying..... 4-5 ads in a 15 minutes video is too much...
Im sorry, It's unfortunately out of my control. It's RUclips.
Use Adblock plus
I drank almost one liter of milk everyday before I got lactose intolerant. I find it hard to believe that I can be able to digest it again by adding a bit to my diet over time
Try to use fermented milk like kefir or yoghurt and check if you can digest it if not use plant milks and creams and icecream.
