  • 🌹🌻 HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY 🌺💐
And speaking of which, we had quite a few amazing mothers out at our Arcade Crk Cleanup @ Norwood (14.0), giving Mother Earth a whole lot of love. 💚 🌎
Despite the heat, 26 volunteers were able to 🎶Get Down🎶 and 🎶Work Their Bodies🎶 sufficiently to dig and haul out another 7,500 lbs of trash and encampment debris from the same general area we had already visited 13 times. With most of the surface items already removed, volunteers dug in to remove pile after pile of buried debris. Included in the wet, muddy haul were 2 shopping carts, hundreds (perhaps thousands) of plastic bags, a stroller, several broken pop-up tents, clothes, blankets, tents, sleeping bags, toxic chemicals, carpets, 2 mattresses, scores of bicycle parts, over 50 bags of loose litter that was collected and too much more to name.
There is so much trash and debris still left in this same area. But rather than feel defeated, we take solace in the fact that this area is truly undergoing a historical transformation, albeit a painstakingly slow one.
Thank you everyone who comes out to help in this area, as well as our generous fiscal donors. These cleanups are brutal on our tools and cause quite a need for nutrition and hydration. And thank you 😊 once again Forensiclean for helping make this collective dream come true for this poor creek.
Thank you everyone and enjoy this beautiful Sunday! 💚🌷

Thank you for doing this hard work. As long as hedgehog and fox can not help themselves we have to step in. I do this since 10 years now in a wood in Vienna, parts have been a landfill. ❤️❤️❤️

Does the city provide waste collect services for the campers … e.g. A small dumpster? This would greatly help. I also build drain skimmers which I apply to drain runs to clean out trash before it runs to the rivers. You cant catch everything but it does reduce the throughput pretty dramatically. What you are doing is amazing but you need to attach the problem at the source eventually.

Trust us, we are working our tails off to have the camp’s moved out of this creek floodplain. The campers discharge their waste directly into the channel and annual high water flows flood the camps and distribute their personal belongings, trash and pathogenic waste downstream. Their presence in this area is a gross violation of local, state and federal laws, yet the City of Sacramento chooses to ignore the problem. The City is currently a defendant in a lawsuit regarding these issues. We are doing everything we can.

@@rivercitywaterwayalliance4646 I Iive in Frisco Texas in a wealthy city. We dont have homeless in our area but our rivers are just as bad. Every single rain flushes many tons of garbage from these wealthy communities (from the streets) and it infiltrated the local rivers. I set up a skimmer which is a multi filter 15 foot long catch in a runoff shoot from a local Kroger shopping area which flows into a small creek. It catches over 1 ton a month in garbage. Picking it out of the creek would be well hard as you all know. Homelessness is only part of the problem all though in your work its 90% of problem. 99% of water way trash comes from wealthy communities.

Are those handled ice hooks, or similar? Where can one buy them?

    • @rivercitywaterwayalliance4646

They are hay hooks. We have ordered them from our local hardware store. A feed store would likely also stock them.
