  • Sunday was an incredible cleanup with 34 fabulous volunteers including many new people. We worked cleaning several terraced camps cut right into the hillside next to Sunrise Blvd bridge. Sacramento County Regional Parks had already been through with maintenance crews, using the bobcat. RCWA volunteers were still able to collect about 8,200 pounds of trash, including over 339 batteries and 79 needles, which will be disposed of properly.
We had several high school students and even some younger well supervised kids. All of them did incredible work, worthy of junior badger status.
Starting at the bottom of the hill by the river, we cleaned many abandoned camps as we worked our way all the way to the top, where we found a trashed camp hidden right next to the very busy road. Once all the camps were cleaned, we had loads of fun, taking turns, doing a trash toss, as we rolled all the bags and debris down the steep hill. To our surprise, not one bag bust open.
After the event, we enjoyed each other’s company as we picnicked near the river and celebrated a job well done. Thanks to Ken and Judy for sharing their fabulous food. It was a great day with friends.
