  • On Saturday morning, 32 trash-ready volunteers returned to Robla Creek to take care of some unfinished business. During our last visit, we attacked a massive mess of encampment trash and debris abandoned on an island in the middle of the creek. It was too voluminous and embedded to finish the last time we were there so we had to return for a second visit! 😳
Both the water and land crews had plenty of work. Not only did we fill our own Sacramento Area Creeks Council trailer twice, using it to transport the trash and debris to a large, centrally located dumpster, we were able to finish the designated location and even extend our efforts upstream several hundred yards! 💪
Once the abandoned camp on the island was cleaned, David worked diligently to dismantle the shopping cart bridge used as a crossing mechanism. This bridge caused a large blockage & trash dam, preventing water flow and fish passage. He removed 3 carpets, 2 shopping carts, 2 wooden pallets, a milk crate, suitcase, plywood, bicycle parts, and a large wooden beam, all interlocked to create the bridge. So much destruction caused to this poor struggling creek and its inhabitants. 🥺
We are working with the wonderful neighbors and the Robla Park Community Association to clean this creek and it is already looking beautiful again! 🌱🌎
The City of Sacramento, provided a 40 yard dumpster this time, since the 20 yard dumpster at our previous cleanup wasn’t large enough for the volume of illegal encampment trash removed.
After loading the dumpster and completing the cleanup, two of the Robla Creek neighbors & stewards, Veronica and Vicki, hosted an amazing lunch for us! Thank you, ladies!! 💚♥️
This Cleanup was funded in part by a City of Sacramento, Community Action Grant awarded by the Stormwater Quality Improvement Program. We would like to sincerely thank the City of Sacramento for partnering with us on this important project.
    Volunteers Make It Happen! 💚💪

So much bulky trash! Looks like all the volunteers had extra servings of spinach before they started working. Phenomenal efforts and results that benefit our waterway ecosystems.
