    I got this tv for my dorm and it’s absolute hell to work with on dorm WiFi

    Works!!! Thank you. Newer TVs have a gear symbol for the menu, on the left, not right. Menu choice is just "Reboot," not "soft..."

    After admin...what choice do you select I don't have a soft reset I have reset to factory settings and that is it

      Exactly what mine has and two factory resets and still same problem. And mine doesn't even show movies and RUclips and app squares at all lately.

    My TV wouldn’t hook up to the internet, screen kept saying “smart cast not connected” I did as you said and then hit the restore to factory settings and it worked!

    For those this did not work with try this. I’ve been struggling with my vizio on dorm WiFi for literally two years and I finally go it working.
    You have to factory reset the television and make sure of two things:
    1. In “menu” under “network” go to “manual setup” and make sure to set/ that your DHCP IP settings are set manually or are “ON”. You can test the connecting right now if you want. If it isn’t connected then go to step two.
    2. Go back to network find the network you are tying to connect to. If you can’t find it go to “hidden network” and type in the network correctly. If it still doesn’t show up it could be a problem with the router and I cannot help past that.
    3. Once or *if* you manage to connect (it may take awhile so patience is key), go to SmartCast (I ended up just using the built in smartcast on my television instead of my Roku as my Roku is a whole other issue on dorm WiFi). It will be stuck on that loathed “smartcast is starting up...” black screen but you have to just wait. Do something else in the mean time while it loads because if you are connected to the internet it should eventually start up. Mine took about 10 minutes to start up. After that it should start up.
    *Note: if you have used your television on a different WiFi and it has worked just fine then the problem is likely not your television and probably the network provider or the router. Also you will know you have connected to the WiFi when you test the connection and SError Code reads “success”

    Love how his smart cast is already working. If your Vizio is stuck in that dreadful “SmartCast is starting up. Please wait...” this won’t help you especially if you’re on a shared dorm network.

      Sorry this is a few days late. You have to factory reset the television and make sure of two things:

    I keep getting a prompt that says "Something went wrong" and it refers me to chromecast.com/help also my app buttons at the top dont work except Netflix. Pissing me off!

      I think that just turning your tv off then on will do the same as soft power cycle. If that doesn't work just unplug your tv for about 5 minutes and then plug it back in that should work.

    So I did a factory reset on my TV which is a Vizio and it keeps turning on and off showing the emblem then it pops up the screen saying that it’s resetting with that countdown clock but then nothing happens

    Vizio smartcast won't show up on any apps that allow casting. Wont even let me screen mirror or when I download the app doesnt show up and nearby device. Literally have done everything u can find online pretty sure from reading how many other people have this same problem and the amazingly low score the app has that vizio is just shit. But still would love to fix this and watch certain things not on the tv like espn plus or hbo max.

      Turn the tv off then on. If that doesn't work, unplug your tv for 5 minutes then plug it back in.
