You can test the connecting right now if you want. If it isn’t connected then go to step two. 2. Go back to network find the network you are tying to connect to. If you can’t find it go to “hidden network” and type in the network correctly. If it still doesn’t show up it could be a problem with the router and I cannot help past that. 3. Once or *if* you manage to connect (it may take awhile so patience is key), go to SmartCast (I ended up just using the built in smartcast on my television instead of my Roku as my Roku is a whole other issue on dorm WiFi). It will be stuck on that loathed “smartcast is starting up...” black screen but you have to just wait. Do something else in the mean time while it loads because if you are connected to the internet it should eventually start up. Mine took about 10 minutes to start up. After that it should start up. *Note: if you have used your television on a different WiFi and it has worked just fine then the problem is likely not your television and probably the network provider or the router. Also you will know you have connected to the WiFi when you test the connection and SError Code reads “success”
Love how his smart cast is already working. If your Vizio is stuck in that dreadful “SmartCast is starting up. Please wait...” this won’t help you especially if you’re on a shared dorm network.

Thanks for this easy fix. It worked, I hope for a long time. Why does a respected company make a tv with this software glitch that automatically forces one to watch Smartcast? I hate to be suspicious...but....
I keep getting a prompt that says "Something went wrong" and it refers me to chromecast.com/help also my app buttons at the top dont work except Netflix. Pissing me off!
I think that just turning your tv off then on will do the same as soft power cycle. If that doesn't work just unplug your tv for about 5 minutes and then plug it back in that should work.

Vizio smartcast won't show up on any apps that allow casting. Wont even let me screen mirror or when I download the app doesnt show up and nearby device. Literally have done everything u can find online pretty sure from reading how many other people have this same problem and the amazingly low score the app has that vizio is just shit. But still would love to fix this and watch certain things not on the tv like espn plus or hbo max.
