One note: If you have the minimal remote control, you will need to use the Vizio app and access the remote control within that app to get to the “input at startup” he mentions.

Omg how do I change my input
Going through this change, with the Vizio update, has caused my anxiety to go up to extreme levels, for weeks. I will definitely try this when my levels go down, but happy to know I am not losing my mind. Thank you for sharing this information. I appreciate you.

Your absolutely right. My elderly mother could not learn how to even get to regular tv channels with Vizio's bullshit. You talked about how fast the input screen takes you back to the smart cast after only a couple of seconds and she just couldn't understand what to do when it did that. I will never ever buy another Visio TV again. Vizio sucks.

I agree I won't buy Vizio again...now I'm having issues with my apps not opening and I've done all the steps...unplug the tv...unplug the router...reboot the tv...now it might open Hulu and Max and it might not...jerks just lost alot of business

I feel like they snuck into an elderly persons living room whom trusted them. They snuck in and not only ruined the tv but made my senior feel like it was their fault. When contacting the customer service they aggressively bullied my elderly person who trusted them. They made them question when they purchased the tv. Vizio is sick there needs to be a class action lawsuit about changing products already sold.

Vizio used to be great but now we won’t buy from them any more. We buy tvs often for our vacation rental business and our guests constantly complain about the Vizio UI.
I don't know what happened with them, they were trending upwards and now well, as you say the brand is not good.

Almost all tvs are patch work components. They are all a hodge podje. Vizio is crap walmart brand. Samsung designed to fail. Lg is lousy garbage etc.. i used to own my own flat panel repair shop..trust me they are all garbage

Yes! After this last update my Vizio tv not only changed to smart cast, I can't even get the remote to open the input or menu options. I have to unplug/replug the tv to get it to turn on and the screen prompts me to choose a language then goes black and turns on again to the same screen. After 3 times it stops and goes to a grey screen. Called vizio and they guessed the firmware needs updating. Tried to update firmware, still not working. My perfectly good tv is inoperable. Sounds like a class action lawsuit in the making.
Yeah, that sounds bad! Maybe contact customer support and they'll probably have a fix.

Same here. Tv is on but no picture at all. Tv turns on by itself. Now its just there for decoration after the uncalled for uodate tv is no longer working.
I was really pissed by the fact that the latest VIZIO update broke my ability to use my antenna directly. When I choose ANTENNA it now goes to the smart TV funkshun instead and then I have to navigate back to LIVE. I use this as my TV and my computer monitor so I go back and forth a lot. This was just unnacceptable!! So I did a factory reset and then agreed to NOTHING and so far, I have my direct antenna input back.

Yeah I wad also pissed. I bought this expensive antenna just for internet issues( storms etc) and it was useless after that update. So if I so the factory reset and don't agree to what exactly....I really want to use that antenna and think it's ridiculous to have to stream local darn channels

You can try resetting, to see if that fixes it, other than that, you would have to contact Vizio.
Do you have a tutorial that explains how to disable automatic updates on video or how to disable or delete the Antenna app. It used to read as ATV input....
The antenna app is screwing up high definition channels and it is also Disabling the zoom features Or aspect ratio for the TV.
The antenna app that came with one of the vizio updates kind of really screwed everything up for my TV
I don't think that there's a way to disable updates on Vizio except to not let it connect to the Internet. You can try factory resetting the TV to see if it rolls back the update
Hello Z Gadget, Two nights ago we got trapped into doing the Visio "smartcast" update. We absolutely hate it ! We especially do not like the way "Imput"choices are displayed. Names for things are different and it is in a vertical format. We like the old terminology and the horizontal format. How can we get rid of the "Update" and go back to what we had ? Thank you for explaining what happened to our TV.
Hi, I don't think that there is a way to roll back an update. I would try doing a completely factory reset and that might do it. other than that, I'm not sure how to go about it.

I’m having a different issue. I use an antenna to watch local channels, recently there’s been an update where they have integrated the antenna input into the watchfree+ input. So now if you press the antenna input it opens up watchfree+. Now it’s very annoying because it lags and doesn’t respond fast when I want to change channels or lower the volume. I liked it better when it was just a regular antenna input smh
They really are forcing people to use their platform, that is such an inconvenience for the user.
I'm having that same problem and can't get out of it. I think I'll just buy a new television and never buy a Vizio TV again since they created this dilemma.

Just did a factory reset again to fix mine. It's no longer a smart TV.
Had to do it twice, the first time I reset I connected to the internet, and it updated and screwed it up again making it too hard to watch tv threw their "live TV" a second time.
I want a TV first and sometimes a smart TV. My last Vizio!
I'll use a dumb Vizio TV (72 cable channels) and a laptop for Disney+, Netflix, RUclips and others via HDMI before I put up with such a piece of crap update that ruins my TV.

I found a solution for myself, I would like to share it with whoever is interested. What I did is turn the WiFi off on my Smart TV, now I can use the antenna that I connected like before. When I want to use Wi-Fi I go on my Firestick. If you don’t own a firestick just log back into your network when you want to use the SmartCast. ✌️

of the three Inputs I have to use, only one will work at a time. I input 3 DVD players Using videos with three different angles and sync them up to create videos switching between camera angles I tried the reset factory defaults however it did not fix the problem due to the fact that it launches into updates automatically and The last update for this TV is what broke it. thank you for providing customer service number. will call them but I doubt anything will change. definitely the last Visio I will purchase.

It took me forever to figure out how to re-order my apps on the Vizio home screen because the tutorial on their channel STILL hasn't been updated to the changes they made over a year ago! (Vizio, fire your social media guy! Your tutorials should be pre-recorded with the Beta version of an update & uploaded to the Vizio website & socials at the same time the update goes live, so if your customers have a question or problem, they can get the correct information/hel immediately.

From the comments here, you have to go to the whatchfreetv app to pick up channels. For some reason Vizio decided that was a good idea.

Didn't help, all I have on the input at power on, are two choices, last input or smartcast, I press last input and it takes me no where, so still can't watch Cable TV. This is very annoying

Hi, it shouldn't affect anything that's connected to your TV. When I did it, I didn't unplug anything and everything still works well
4:36 ,I put mine on automatic in the main menu and all is fine now,I also unplugged the t.v for 2 minutes.

I ended up getting a ROKU, because Vizio's Smartcast and Apps are not user friendly at all. I can't even manually add apps to it.
Roku in my opinion is way better.
So the Roku won't conflict or clash with the Smartcast? By the way, I just recently purchased my new Vizio D40f-J09 and I was liking the new features until I came here and all these comments started scaring me.

Yes, its a pain I know, I have to reboot the TV to factory settings and SKIP network entry during the process. Then later after restart go back l to input my network settings. Works for awhile, but If I hit Smartcast by mistake when switching inputs, I get stuck there and I'm rebooting to factory settings, SKIPPING network entry and during the process all over again. I have an older Vizio better picture actually in the family room that does not have Smartcast ... never has problems, go figure.
Damn! My TV worked just fine for us before the forced update. My biggest issue is that when I come off of the Firestick and go to the Antenna, I choose Input/Antenna and it just goes to Watchfree about 50% of the time, even though I pressed Antenna. When I finally get to the Antenna input, it won't bring up a menu of antenna channels. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't and I'm stuck with the stupid Watchfree menu. When this thing dies I won't be replacing it with another VISIO. Crap software!

@@ZGadgetReview Update....the VISIO died last night. Watched some programs on the antenna, got a message that the TV could not find the signal, but the station was playing just fine. Shut the TV off to do some other things. Came back and the TV would not stay on. It would go to the WatchFree blue screen and go off. Unplugged it for the night. Tried it again this morning and it worked sporadically for a while, then repeated last nights death chant. Would turn on for a few seconds, then turn off. Or it would stay on a black screen and none of the remote commands worked. Went to WalMart today and bought a 55" Samsung on Black Friday sale. Done with VISIO. I think the 4 year old processor could not handle the "update" and just froze.

The "system>input at power on" setting doesn't work on my V755-G4 tv because the only option I use is HDMI and that isn't one of the three choices.

Vizio forces you to go through their Smart Cast. If you have no internet then your antenna input will not work.

Question: the update has caused our TVs to automatically use Watch Free app for local channels. We prefer the Antenna input because it displays the channel numbers with no waiting to connect to the Internet. How do we go back to the antenna input instead of Watch Free? We have tried multiple times and it won’t switch away from Watch Free.
From what I've read, it seems to be the default way of watching TV from Vizio. The only way would be factory resetting it and not letting it update, which might mean not letting it connect to the internet.

You can, but based on what people say on this thread, it seems that you have to go through the watch free app for all that.

Roku Express not recognized by WiFi to get online, much less be updated. Vizio SmartCast, no problem, only Roku cannot get online at all.

Great info! question what if you dont have a home wifi router but u have unlimited hotspot thru your mobile carrier and you use a fire tv stick ? I had bought a smart tv that had goggle home smart tv built in and would not accept my hotspot password!! Sucks all these tvs giving issues if u dont play by their rules
I'm pretty sure it does, I have connected to my hotspot (phone) once before when my internet was down. But that was awhile ago.
My input won't show the hmdi input I am using but if I change inputs say from 1 to 2 then it won't show 2. So no matter which port I plug in to that one won't show but the others do.
I figured it out. Vizio had renamed my port STB Refsw Design and when I changed ports the name switched to that name. I finally chose it out of frustration and there was my cable. Not sure what the name means but goog grief and of course with the TV going to Smartcast......but thanks I did learn to change that also!

I bought a Vizio 1080p smart tv at a thrift store for 10. The picture is great for gaming and everything but it’s impossible to switch hdmi
I would suggest using the mobile app (if you haven't) to see if that works.
Turn on the Vizio tv then go to input on the remote then select which one you want any update won't effect that it's simple

On my Visio after their update I find the sleep timer doesnt always shut off after I set it. Sometimes but not always have to manually shut it off.

There has been an update to Vizio recently that removed the broadcast/antenna experience and replaced it with a confusing mess under "antenna" in the new input list. In this video he shows the previous input menu. Does anyone know how to get back to that experience, as shown in this video?
I would think doing a factory reset and not letting the TV update the firmware would be your best solution.

the update changed the tuner to antenna to automatically switch you to the antenna free channels thru the smartcast app... theres no way around this
It is another way to force their users to use the smartcast platform. Which at this point seems to be all this company is about.
I picked up this 60 in tv on the side of the road. Works and has remote. However I can only chrome cast from apps. Is there something else that I need to get the apps?
If you press the home button on the remote it should take you to the app menu. You can also download the Vizio TV app and access the apps that way.
How can I plug in an indoor antenna when there is no plug in on my Visio tv. There is no screw in for a coax cable
Vizio TVs don't have TV tuners. You need to get a standalone ATSC and then plug it via HDMI

Can you turn the WiFi off? Also you can try going through the watchfree tv app, that seems to be what Vizio is pushing.

Download the official Vizio app it has a remote and you can also use it to access smartcast it is called Vizio Mobile.

If I didn't live on the first floor, I would have jumped by now after trying to fix this ridiculous situation. MY Vizio has one coaxial input where I have cable tv pugged in. I am getting local stations since the update with so much "snow" that you can't see or hear anything. So, I bought an antenna for local statons. My tv only has one coaxial input and the antenna needs one as well. My cable box is in my basement. Anyone know what I can do to
You could try the watchtvfree app within Vizio. That seems to be the way to do it based on other comments.

You press the stream icon on the device you want to mirror and choose your Vizio TV, they both need to be on the same WiFi network.

Have you tried the mobile app? you could try doing it with the remote on the app. Make sure to remove the batteries from the remote.
How do you change the name of the Input? My tv updated itself and named all 3 of my inputs for me but none of the names makes sense. Instead of input 1, 2, 3. It says SFT EU for input 1, Nintendo for 2, and Unknown for 3.
Menu, input settings, click on the input you want to name for example HDMI 1, click on it, menu opens, click on the input again, a keyboard should pop for you to name it. You can only do this with HDMI, composite inputs.
The Airplay input completely disappeared on my Vizio TV today. It doesn’t let me mirror my phone to my TV anymore 😢
My TV tried updating, but I cut it off before it could completely finish, & now Airplay is gone.
The only thing I can think of is factory resetting it. Sorry I can't provide more help.
How about trying to update instead?

Question why won't my 65 inch vizio tv it says like saying when I turn it on the next day it says no imput signal and it does that on all the hdmi's any idea why. But it will turn on when I use it through out the day.
It sounds like it could be a delay in recognizing the signal coming from whatever you have plugged in. But it shouldn't be the case, I would contact Vizio support.
@@ZGadgetReview it's running through my sony receiver arc setup my dish box is straight into the tv. That's what has me confused because like say I haven't turned it on today but no imput signals show up on the hdmi's all of them if I go to settings and restart it then they work. And I can turn it off throughout the day and it come back on normal it's just when I turn it off at night and back on the next day. I tried turning the CEC setting off then I can't get no sound through my receiver at all I tried turning off control hdmi setting and turning off passthrough as well stil same issue with the hdmi's

@@ghostwolf1435 I would say look for a software update on the TV, if there isn't any it might be the cable or port. Try using an HDMI cable if you have a cable box.

Did you see if there is a software update? You might be able to uninstall the app and then reinstall it via the Vizio app.

They bullied my senior mother into thinking the tv they bricked was old. It was purchased in 2019 new. Viz sneaked into my 100 yr old mother’s house and ruined her tv for no reason other than greed of data. Sure you can factory reset but once the stupid tv accesses the internet they ruin it all over again. First they made 80% of the buttons worthless on the remote then they tried to fix with the garbage on the screen. If you let your senior parents any where near Vizio Visio will steal from them like a burglar.

Not that I'm aware of, you could try doing a full factory reset and see if that triggers the update via WiFi.
I was given a Vizio 65" t.v. & I just wanted regular t.v. channels not that smart cast crap! I'm not really sure why Vizio did this crap but I refuse to watch that smart cast hopefully after watching this tutorial I will be able to hook up to a antenna! If not I will give it away to someone who has patience & likes that smart junk stuff. I'm sorry but Vizio messed this up. No more Vizio t.v.'s for me if it has this smart cast junk

When I turn my TV off it resets my sound and I don't have no sound on my soundbar
I'm not sure about the sound reset, but I have noticed that Vizio soundbars sometimes don't have sound when turning the TV on. The only solutions I can offer are to unplug the HDMI cable (the one coming from the TV to the soundbar) and plug it again also try changing the source of sound and wait for the soundbar to reorganize it before moving to your usual source (that should fix it). Lastly you can unplug the power cable on the soundbar and plug it again (you can just unplug it from the back of the soundbar) I hope it helps.

Do you mean for the antenna? If that is the case, many have said that you have to go through the watchfreetv app.
I usually just connect the device first then switch over and have no issue I make it a lot easier on myself

@@ZGadgetReview I looked into that and found several apps for Vizio TV. The one I downloaded wanted my credit card info. In the end, simply decided Vizio was not what I want in a TV and sent it back!
