  • For six months in 1864, United States Colored Troops called Fort Harrison, outside of Richmond, Virginia, home. During their time in the Richmond area, numerous USCT soldiers earned the highest honors that U.S. military service has to offer. They then made their way to Petersburg for the War's end. Be sure to plan a trip to check out the park! goo.gl/maps/mW...

Wish people would talk about blacks Confederate troops in partisans, private regiments, militias, and the navy throughout the war until they raised black regiments in North Carolina in 1865.
It’s not a well known fact unfortunately.
5,000 African Americans also fought for Washington in the revolution.

Not only are these facts not spoken of but the action of black men individually and in units in the first war.

I mean the black people who fought for the south were slaves, they were forced to and there weren’t many of them serving in combat rolls for the south. Like you said it wasn’t until 1865 in the last few months of the confederacy that out of desperation they began to arm slaves and raise black regiments.

@@macmiller1678 No, 1,500 free blacks volunteered in the 1st militia and served in the siege of New Orleans.
Free blacks or men offered freedom were in the militias, partisans, the navy, and in 1865 the regular army

@@SouthernGentleman The 1st Louisana native guard switched sides when the union occupied. And it wasn't black people, it was mixed race creoles.

Thanks for the support Vanessa. If you haven't already, check out this profile that we were able to do with Lt. Gen Ron Coleman. It relates to the soldiers talked about at Fort Harrison. ruclips.net/video/cQ--UL6Rzqo/видео.html

The actions of these black men during the Civil War and particularly that photo that he showed, makes me so very, very proud. It reminds one of the sacrifices people made for the sake of freedom -- freedom not handouts.

USCT was a total game-changer. Nothing broke the back of secessionist will to fight quite like seeing their former slaves armed in disciplined fighting units. Thanks for getting more of the word out! I can't wait to move back to Virginia this year to be closer to all of this history.

Their history is burned down and replaced with fake stuff.
And 70% of the south didn’t have slavery and Grant was a owner.
Sherman purposely led black troops into ambushes, because he was pro slavery
