@APassersby thanks for the tips ! I’ve practiced building and I’ve made a few decent homes so far, but I still want to practice using debug and more advanced tools before I start on more difficult buildings
Oh my god I didn't expect to find anything actually new/useful in this video because I thought I knew how to roof but booooy was I wrong! Especially when you demonstrated the ctrl+c with the "flaps" - my jaw literally dropped and I sat there staring at the screen for a good 3 minutes playing it over and over. I should have known better than to doubt my man James, this helped me so much thank you
i never knew about the one where you can change the curves of the roof... but now finally i can build some more traditional eastern builds like chinese temples :) thanks, james
@@heatheranne1582 when you are building a room, and you have the parts of the house that you click on to get to different things, you click on the window.
Wow, I didn’t know holding shift+C for the roof curvature gives you extra controls. I dunno what I would use a super curvy roof on but that’s still really cool.
I was today years old when I learnt about those hotkeys. Mind. Blown. 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 Also, please can you do a similar guide for inserting skylights into roofs and also a similar guide for octagonal, pentagonal and hexagonal roofs... I really want to add them to my builds but they're a real bugger to use!! Cheers James 👍👍👍👍
thanks for your humbleness when describing diff kinds of roofs and stuff james, you never tear down a certain style or anything and remind us it's just your opinion and that no two builds are the same and that's cool too :)
Thanks James! Some of the alt and shift stuff I didn't know. Another video in this same area would be how to use the hexagon roof (and other special shapes) and diagonals to make them work with normal roofing. Many times I have to abandon the house idea that I have due to not being able to do get the special roof shapes to fit nicely into my build.
Only at 3:03 and my skills to build a roof grown around 524%. I don't know that you can holt alt or shift or pull down the roof sides (or only one side!). I feel a little bit stupid now :D Thanks! I hate building a roof at all and most of my buildings have flat roofs or I build a square house with one and only roof. Thanks again and greetings from germany!
On the console to move one side of the eaves of the house you hold X for Xbox and “square” for PS4(not sure on PS4 I am guessing) but to do the curvy roof trick I haven’t found it yet
I feel so dumb lol, I thought I knew things, but I can't tell you how many times knowing about the shift thing with the eaves or the alt trick (which I use all the time for placing objects, but never thought to try with the dang roof) would have saved me so much hassle and frustration lol. You're the real MVP, as always.
Thanks for updating your roof tutorial Semaj. I've learned from watching you play, but often struggle with roofing. Also, big thanks for showing how simple modern roofing is.
Thanks for uploading an updated version! Lately I haven’t been building because I can’t make my builds look different and roofs are unique in sims 4 building! I’m glad I was able to learn more!
I find it so cute you guys both keep channels and share tips and tricks for eachother. Couple goals😂 also I remember Deli saying you had good roofing videos so here I am! THANK YOU! I hated roofing until now
WHERE HAVE THOSE ROOF TRICKS BEEN ALL MY LIFE. Seriously though, THANK YOU for sharing! I always suck at building and roofing so this is such a life saver. Simming since 2003 and I'm still an idiot with the Sims.
Wow, I had no idea about the Shift or Shift+C options when roofing! This has allowed me to change the roofs on one of my houses that I really hated in to something I really really love. Thanks!
if i wasn't already a big fan of you, this would've settled it! THIS is how a tutorial should be, right to the point and 3min in i already knew what i wanted to know THANK YOU MISTER
I made a roof and it was showing in build mode. When I went to live mode my roof was flat. When I go back to build it's there. IDK what I'm doing wrong
I am so pleased I've stumbled across your videos. Every build video I've watched so far has taught me some new aspect I wasn't aware of. Thank you for putting in the time and effort to make these for us :-)
Literally is gonna help me so much because when I make houses they HAVE to be perfectly symmetrical and with no random rooms because of the roofing haha
Also on the left side of the house with the roof-sticking-out-of-the-wall thingy you could place a roof and duplicate it and placing it on the same spot but without the eves. Hard to explain but two identical roofs overlapping each other but the one that goes trough the main roof doesn’t have eves, so you don’t have to drag the roof across the whole house or extend the house x1 !! But other than that great video! You explain everything great!
I always watch this videos to make sure I haven't missed anything. Always come to the conclution that I already know it all, but I get so inspired watching others build lol
I love this tutorial. Thank you so much. Would you be willing to do a tutorial for Skylight roofs, Friezes and Exterior trims, and Roof trims? I find I'm always struggling with those. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
This is awesome! Thanks Semaj! Would love if as well as keyboard short cuts if you could add console short cuts.... have a lot of issues trying to figure out the console codes. I know you dont typically play on console. This is will be my task for my very snowy Canadian day! Enjoy your sun 😑
So when you were doing the roof around the 9:00 mark, I would separate the joining section into two hips so the front part had eaves to match the front hipped roof, then the back half didn’t have eaves to join on to the main roof section, that way you don’t get eaves peaking through the side.
thank you thank you thank you THANK YOU for making this!! especially the eaves trick... Trying to build a roof makes me so frustrated sometimes that I just give up and get something from the gallery. I wish I had known about the trick to adjust only one eave a lot sooner...
When you have the A frame roofs (roofs, rooves.... lmao idk) if you don’t want the eves to stick through the wall you can just duplicate the roof and attach it to where the main part of the A frame connects to the wall/other roof, and then right where you get that extended part that no longer sticks out but makes a smooth attachment, you pull the roof away from the other one, and then add the duplicate A frame but remove the eves. Sorry this is a really complicated explanation but I find it works really well to hide the eves while still having them on the outer structure.
Thank youuuu for this great Video. The roof on my new house was almost driving me crazy and it didnt look good at the end. So now I can adjust it to my liking....
First, thank you for being such an inspiration to help me build better. My build game has increased so much. I've been playing since Sims 1, and my houses have never looked this realistic. I even built my own version of an underground house after watching you do one (Secret Garden) and a tree house (no walls challenge). I always come to your videos when I'm having issues with "builders block". One question though. Do you (or anybody who reads this far) have any recommendations for a youtuber who plays sims 4 on console (preferably xbox one) who does stuff like this? I'd like to be able to learn what our "hot keys" are for different things. I know we are limited by the number of buttons on our controller, but there's gotta be some way to get the smaller adjustments to pop up for us. I have so many builds that could look so much better if I could figure out how to drop one eave, but not the other or get my roof pitch somewhere in between stock points. I've just given in to adjusting my rooms to match what I know how to do, which then means my builds don't look how I imagined them. I've tried searching myself, but only get let's play videos or cinematic movie like videos...no helpful building tips/hints videos. Thanks for your help. I always look forward to seeing your videos.
I can build some decent houses, no way near the level of youtubers but ok. However, the roofs are such a damn pain to make i really need this video haha. Been learning from your building videos but this adds some more knowledge to it.
I was working on building my own world when I noticed that you could import bars and lounges from other worlds. I'm new to Sims 4. There is one fancy lounge and art centre that has half walls and looks really neat. Can you do a tutorial on how to build something like that?
I thought I knew how to roof until I saw this video
Izabela I was going to say the same exact thing 😂
SAME. Except not really because I sucked at roofing.
Izabela same
Liked for the giggle at "balls"
Quinxey same
Orbs man, orbs. Lol
An instructional guide for Sim Guru Romeo right?
Yes.
NEEDED. Struggled so bad with roofs since they got rid of auto-roof 😂🙄
anna chappell I miss auto-roof so much because I can’t for the love of God get it right ahaha
how to roof like a pro: try roofing, give up, put down a house from the gallery
1 year ago, still relevant to me

It was one of my favorite patches. So much more control. ♡
They see me roofin', they hatin'.
Roofin'
Oh mah gosh! This was so helpful!! I didn't know all those hotkeys and such! 😲
Do one for stairs please 😊
Mois?
i never knew about the one where you can change the curves of the roof... but now finally i can build some more traditional eastern builds like chinese temples :) thanks, james
I struggle on the pentagon, hexagonal and octagonal roof, they never fit properly and I have to make the roof super big so it can cover all the edges.
Хлоя Чанокова i have the same issue 🙄🙄
same i tried to make like towers in a castle i was building and it looked terrible no matter what i did...
Same; one thing that often works is if it doesn't fit right, just make the overhang longer and you can't even tell
Overhang cuts through the walls, I will need to make the roof 'higher' to stop that but then the roof would look very weird.
Almost four years playing TS4 and today I learned how to roof properly
So glad you made this video. I suck at roofing to the point sometimes I just deleted the whole house.
How to window please?
Have you tried the automatic window placement? You turn it on in the window catalogue.
@@Kurbitsimssv i didn't know that i was a thing at all
edit: been on sims 4 and found it, thanks for mentioning it. :)
Kurbitsims_sv How do you get to the window catalogue?

Am I the only one that felt like personally mentored? It's kinda scary but it felt like he was speaking directly to me 😂😂

highkey didn't know about holding down the alt key to move the roof up and down and my jaw literally dropped wtf
Thanks for updating your roof tutorial Semaj. I've learned from watching you play, but often struggle with roofing. Also, big thanks for showing how simple modern roofing is.
This is so helpful! I struggle a lot with roofing and didn’t know a lot of the keyboard hacks before
Literally yesterday I was thinking, “I wish James had an updated video showing me how to roof- I’m so bad at it.” This video is so helpful omg.
I struggle with roofing diagonal add on rooms, I can barely do rustic roofing on diagonal rooms but if I want to do modern roofing I have no chance

Your tutorials are always on point, James! ❤️ Holding shift to adjust individual eaves literally just saved my roofing career lol
Could we get a tips and tricks video for the round roofs and the 5, 6 and 8 sided ones?

Do a # of fix roof. Where u roof some weird shaped houses on the gallery?
4 minutes in and I already learned 3-4 things I didn't knew, thank you !
i swear I can't explain the anxiety this video just gave me I cant even breath
Not knowing how to roof properly really limited my builds, this video is a live saver man
8:38 EXCELLENT SUGESTION. I had the same problem
You brought my building up so many levels with this video. Thank you so, so much!
I found a good mixture of both roofing options to be a good hybrid compromise. They compliment each other
I would like to see you or someone really, cover the octagon and hexagon roofing. I like to add some semblance of circle or curves to my builds.
Side note I swear my hotkeys do not work.
