I have to say, your Larry imitation is one of my favourite gags you do, over every veggiesins episode. It's just the right amount of close yet not entirely accurate to make it hilarious.
That Team Rocket reference totally caught me off guard and made me bust out laughing 😂
4:34
There's actually a story behind this cameo, and it can be heard in the DVD commentary for this episode.
It all happened in 2002. Throughout most of The Star of Christmas' production, most of Big Idea's main animators were working on Jonah (which released earlier that same year), so they had the team who worked on 3-2-1 Penguins helping out with the animation. As animators came off of Jonah as production of that film neared completion, they joined the 3-2-1 team, and together, they finished The Star of Christmas. The penguin cameo is meant to be a tip of the hat to the 3-2-1 Penguins team for helping out.
I thought both Jonah and this episode were both released in the same month.
@@supermariof0521 Jonah was finished during August 2002, with the animation itself being finished much earlier, so it's safe to assume that Star of Christmas was being animated while Jonah was wrapping up
@@321Blender Oh
They did say animators coming off Jonah were joining, implying that it was done at the end of Jonah
One of the first "VeggieTales" episodes I ever saw!
Same!
Ah, Mr. Leaf Razor, what an unexpected surprise, and by unexpected, I mean...well, actually truly unexpected.
Merry Christmas in advance. 🎄
I see you must be a big Phineas and Ferb fan because Dr. Doofenshmirtz is my favorite character in that show.
@@CJBStudios Oh yes. I like the DS games and the movies are pretty cool too.
@@supreme-ss777 I can do a pretty good impression of Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s voice.
@@CJBStudios that's actually amazing
@@supreme-ss777 Thanks, I made a video about it a little while ago.
1:58 ❤ love your singing is lovely and nice too ^^ nice mashup btw though ^^
1:38 You have a cleaner mind than me. I always heard it as "Happy FART."
You too?
@@321Blender Yep
You know, the plot of this episode really reminds me of what happened in our family in real-life. In around 2012, right before our family and I would travel to Alaska, our church had an event where they would play another VT episode, "Robin Good and his Not-So-Merry Men", and that was the same day that a play that my older brother Bram was in (as part of the Christian Youth Theater) was occurring (We were put in the position of the prince, and Bram was in the position of the titular artifact, the Star of Christmas). We attended the play that Bram was in. That was where the similarities between real-life and the episode ends. Our church was both polite and gracious enough not to kidnap us, or "borrow" Bram, which I hear is illegal now!
2:04 Yeah that's right. I Love My Duck and Our Big Break DO have the same tune. Just different lyrics.
Phil even points this out in the King George commentary.
Halloween ended two hours ago, and now we're in the Christmas season! I know 2002 was a rough time for Big Idea and they put a lot of logic in their VeggieTales shows, but they still pulled off making great videos! I also loved watching these kinds of videos around Christmas season!
6:44 If you look carefully at the case, it closes nearby the tablecloth as he's hopping away. My guess is that Millward was closing the case so the "star" wouldn't fall out, not realizing how close he was to the tablecloth. Of course, it goes by so fast that it is hard to notice at normal speed. Plus the scene's odd camera position makes it look like he's gone past the table.
Merry Christmas.
1:58 Your singing is great lol
3:01 They are literally making a musical about Mario!!!
Not a bad way to celebrate this special’s 20th anniversary.
8:05 I do really feel like this isn't an animation error, and it looks like they put that in on purpose for dramatic effect, but it would be hard to notice unless you squint your eyes at it while you have it slowed down. I had no idea the animators put in this little detail in the last few frames of the shot with Cavis' eyes. How did I not notice this my entire life of watching the series? And I'm 19 years old!
Yeah what is that thing?
I never seen it before in my life……hmmm
@PrideEepy64 What is your pfp!? Also, editor's note: I'm now 21 years old. This comment aged for too long and it's cringey as FUCK!
@@tristanj.1793 Tap Taps from The Yoshi Island Series in Yoshi Wooly World Form
Bob's/cavis' face at 5:50 always gave me the creeps. I should have known they were referencing the famous grinch smile.
Can't we go one veggiesins without you making jokes about what happened to Phil's career going down?
It's what you gotta do now since most of these episodes he covers kinda foreshadow VeggieTales' fate.
It’s pretty much inevitable
To be fair to Phil, at least he took the L on all his failings. He didn't blame anyone else, he didn't blame God, he accepted that his pride led to his fall.
That and he roasts other "Christians" who take out of context quotes and base them on their whole reason to exist.
Well Phil’s been on a downward spiral lately: going from “hey kids, God made you special” to “hey kids, God doesn’t care if your parents abort you because they didn’t want to raise you”. So yeah, I couldn’t care less: bring on the Bob bashing!
@@OneTrueVikingbard He-he said something like that? Please tell me you're joking.
Big Idea’s downfall serves as a dark lesson on the dangers of ambition.
This is one of my Top 10 favorite episodes of VeggieTales! :)
9:14 I died 🤣
9:45 Leaf Razor makes a Toy Story pop culture reference that isn't a sin of the film cliche. *ding*
_All_ sin channels are guilty of it and it drives me up a wall. But Leaf-Razor isn't the worst about it. That distinction goes to LittleshyFiM, who I straight up stopped watching because his sins videos have become long unfunny strings of "this show that show".
I heard "AppyFart" to be honest, and that's a lot funnier.
8:05 we all know why porygon was on screen
IT WAS ALL HIS IDEA *Points at Yellow Rat*
8:17-8:47 *Insert Garfield "Hey wait a minute" voice clip with a Jonah poster appearing in the background*
0:12 Leaf Razor sins something he likes cliche. *ding*
No, you're not the one who thought Cavis' last name was 'Happyheart', me and my mom thought it was just mispelled or mispronounced.
"It looks like a turtle."
4:36 And yet this special just-so-happened to air on a station that doesn't use commercials. Recycled Silly Song ahoy!
Huh. I didn’t see the entire PBS broadcast as a kid, but I distinctly remember them placing “Oh Santa” right after the heist scene, so I’m not sure how or if they used this act break in particular.
@@LeafRazorStorm Interesting. I just always assumed with all the "PBS airing reconstructions" I've seen over the years that "Oh Santa" was placed after the iris out
@@321Blender Again, I really don’t have proof. I just remember changing the channel to PBS, “Oh Santa” was on, my parents were glowing because “Oh cool, it’s The Toy That Saved Christmas!” But then the song ended, we saw Cavis and Millward beaten and bruised and my parents went “Oh. It’s THAT episode. Meh.”
..............I legit never realized that The Princess and The Plumber was a Mario reference all along. STUPID I AM!! STUPID!
7:09 I’m surprised no one mentioned the Emperor’s new grove reference yet and after all this time
Larry was basically drunk on ice cream in "End of Silliness", so the mention of the temperance movement in this episode isn't the only alcohol reference the show has made.
"...more beams than the Puggslyville Bridge."
But the "than" is misspelled as "that." 2:27
Honestly, I thought that he was singing junior’s version of I Love My Duck, but he actually (I just learned this the day i wrote this, almost midnight on the 21st of September 2024) is singing Larry’s version of it.
3:22 my favorite part XD
8:05
Porygon: Ha Ha I’m in danger
Actually, December 2, 1882 DID land on a Thursday (Julian calendar).
Did anyone ever noticed one of the articles at 0:27 literally references the song London Bridge?
Why doesn't somebody mention the London Bridge reference at 0:27?!
That's genius!
5:20
To unite all veggies within our nation
10:26 No, they used something similar to escape from Moyer.
5:18 to unite all people within our nation
4:20 Also Rule 39: No such thing as coincidence
Well, merry Christmas good friends!
this is great😄
And now we wait for Easter Carol, one of the only two Easter movie to ever exist. (The other one is Hop.)
The Passion of the Christ is an Easter movie. And other Bible movies.
Weed eater!
Oh that’s your answer to everything!
My predictions for future sins;
I'd like to see you question in King George how exactly time works in the countertop on the part where Jimmy and Jerry talk about Bob and Larry needing a break.
Maybe in Lyle you'd poke fun of the anachronism joke. (Nice anachronism joke, but how are you going to use it without electricity?)
Sumo of the Opera should have one sin pointing out how exactly Maewyn prays 100 times a day. He'd have to pray like 7.14 times an hour according to calculations.
0:18 Back then, $2 was $2. 2022/2023 Inflation wasn't an issue.
10:23 Um…I don’t think this is right. Jonah came after this. Maybe it could be that the production team used it while the movie was nearly done?
Jonah released in theaters a few weeks before Star released on video.
@@LeafRazorStormI see.
Pokémon reference
0:12 I think the rest of the Christmas videos are coal then.
8:19-8:48 Are you talking about Jonah?
