  • What's up hobby friends! This week we take on an awesome older metal mini. Fabius Bile has a great look, and is one of those minis I've been looking forward to paint for quite some time. I finally found one that really needed help and it was a great price! I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did, this is an excellent model to pick up either in the original metal, or the newer plastic version, they are similar and very good!

    I have a converted Emperor's Children Sorcerer based upon this figure. Back in the GW allowed ordering of specific bits for conversions. My model is inspired by Pinhead from Hellraiser. I may have to do a glow up version with the new model if GW ever gets around to updating the Emperor's Children faction.

    A couple coats of Magos Purple glazed onto those metals could have looked amazing! You could use it to separate the servoarms casings a bit from the resto of the metallics, tying them up a bit with the purple armor, and not have them look all like a solid block. Anyway I know the focus of this paintjob is the skin and glass, which all look pretty neat. Nice job as always, Casey. Get well soon!

    Old models are amazing! I’ve tried to sprinkle in a few old metal models and the 2nd Ed plastic models because I just love the designs (and fits for my firstborn army) and wanted to make my first ever proper 40K army something special and meaningful to me
    Definitely my favourite model is the 2nd Ed Devastators, especially with the shoulder mounted heavy bolters 😎

    Your comments about newer plastic/older metal made me think about Fabius making similar comments about Primaris/Firstborn marines.
    "Sure, these Primaris marines are a little tougher, quicker, what have you, but the traditional Firstborn geneseed still has its merits. You can be a bit more heavy-handed twisting it with unholy sciences and still get a good result, and anyone who's worked with them knows what I mean."

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  9 месяцев назад +1

      It's usually a good idea to use a varnish over the top. Satin is usually best to keep most of the paint looking the same, though you may have to go back and touch up any metallic paint. I personally like matte varnish for the look and it helps protect the mini from small dings. I'm surprised that paint came off of a plastic mini from falling on the carpet though. That doesn't usually happen even without a varnish.

    I want to give it a try but can't seem to find them

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  9 месяцев назад

      Since I mostly look for Warhammer minis of all kinds I usually go with the search term "Warhammer" and then filter the results by used, buy it now, lowest price first. Then you go to the sidebar and filter even more by, painted/assembled, partially painted/ assembled, and Damaged/missing pieces. That usually gets you the best single model and small squad results that are in this type of condition. Once you have the saved search that you like go ahead and save that search for later, that way it's only one click away every time. You can also set up notifications on that search to go directly to your email every day and show you the newest minis. That way you can jump on the good opportunities before anyone else!
      Hope that helps :)

    Are older mini's even playable with the new codex's?

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  9 месяцев назад

      As long as they can count as something and are modeled as such. Fabius Bile should be in the newest codex, so any Fabius Bile model will do. There are some rules to follow though, like the base size should be the same or bigger, and the height for line of sight needs to be basically the same or worse for you as the player, otherwise, it's considered modeling for advantage. Shorter models can't be seen behind cover type of thing, so make it a little bigger to give your opponent the advantage, technically. The new FB is a little taller, so I put this one on some cork to make up for it. The rest is almost identical though.
      A while back I painted up a Ghazghull Thrakka model from 2nd edition, a really small model compared to the new one, but I put him on a stack of cans, a proper-sized base and it's basically the same thing, just an older version.
      Being able to make mini dioramas or just bulking up the base and terrain to fit with a smaller older model is definitely part of the fun of using them, and something you don't see every day on the table too!

    "you're missing out on so many cool models" *ebay miniature resures's slideshow not related* Great bit
    I can't agree with they thought of painters they just couldn't do it or reach especially since minis are usually done at at least 3 up scale not their actual scale. Like the same guys when given 3d sculpting go buck wild.

    😂 I skipped forward and just saw the last bit and presumed it was OG paintjob,thought not bad,could do with repaint but not absolutely necessary, but it was your actual paint job. I think it's the tine to step up the game,ypur stuff doesn't look acceptable anymore for a 'rescue' cgannel

      Honesty, I think you’re missing the point here, but besides that, not acceptable anymore for a “rescue” channel is a very confusing statement.

    I get where you are coming from with colour variation in skin tones. But I think there is an error in your thinking. The picture of of the girl compared to the skin cloak is two different things. The girl represents a living person whose skin tone is impacted by the blood under her skin and the impact of emotions and environment on her face. The skin cloak has to have been cured so it is more like leather and there would not be the colour variation you see with the girl. Given that the cloak may be made up from multiple victims, the colouring may vary because of different skin colour but it is never going to look alive again. And the spotting that was on the plastic version can only have come from outside sources. There is no blood in the skin so spotting is not a thing.

      Yeah that’s true, but the idea is that we are trying to sell the fact that the leather cloak is actually skin, so getting the eye to say, oh yeah, that’s skin, feels more important than not necessarily being exactly what it should be. I mean it’s all subjective, that’s just the way I was thinking about it while painting, but going the opposite and doing dried leather also makes perfect sense! From a biological standpoint you’re totally correct of course :)
