No matter how strong you are - a beginner or seasoned lifter - everyone would benefit from a good warm up before lifting overhead! Here’s 2 drills today that you can use! . Shout out @sarahbfit_ for the opening stitched video & @muscleandmotion for the amazing anatomy graphics.
Everyone has to start somewhere, it's important to do it right, i.e. technique, training with someone who knows what they are doing don't be afraid to ask for help you'll find most people training are very helpful.
@SquatUniversity Hi Dr. Horschig! Your videos have helped me fix my hip impingement and my gluteal tendonopathy, thank you so much!! Never thought I would be able to squat or deadlift and now my body can move as it was intended, as you say. I'm starting to incorporate various modalities in to my training and I'm getting more comfortable with functional training with kettlebells. I watched your video on the Turkish Getup and it was amazing, I was literally making all three of those mistakes. I was hoping you may consider making a similar video about the 90-90 Getup with a kettlebell in the front rack position if at all possible? Thanks again and have a nice day! Respectfully,
Do you find that the front of the rotator cuff is usually in better condition than the back? I noticed a lot of your patients need some external rotation to fix their issue, but not internal rotation.
Your priming the muscles with band exercises is making me wonder whether Vladimir Shmondenko's Anotoly character is actually offering good advice when he demonstrates band exercises in his pranks.
Oh I just did this exercise in Pilates yesterday.. it was soooo tiring 😩 Part of that comes from my shoulder imbalance tho. Right side doesn’t move smoothly yet, & my traps like to do the work for my lats. The other part is my slight hyper-mobility that messes with my stabilisation in general.
Warming up for this with auxiliary movements is largely a waste of time, but I'd recommend a pyramid warm-up. Start really low weight: about 40% of your working weight. This might be dumbells if your working weight is low enough. If you're brand new to this movement, then start with 25 lb ez curl bar as your working weight. Over several more sets, work your way up to your working set weight. Now you're ready and remember the motion for the movement. If you want to get better at OHPing, then you need to practice it about 2 to 3 times a week and progressively overload it. You may find that microloading (1kg or 2.5 lb increments) helps with this one because it can be hard to make successful increases in 5 lb increments. This lift is notoriously hard to progress. Train it consistently for several months, and you will get better. Watch lots of videos on form for OHP. Get a barbell coach to train you on the movement.
Now I don’t feel so bad feeling crappy about doing Ohp With just the bar itself hahahaha. Able to do good number of reps but i just go this shit is hard
You have no idea how much strength/mental power you are wasting when worrying about how you are struggling instead of just embracing that you are struggling
In light colored shorts, she’s probably either commando, has a thong on, or has found a nude colored pair of seamless undies. The only way to get no underwear lines in spandex
Need to point out that’s one of the big boy bars it was at least 20-40kg, this one looks more 20kg so since she is female and this is a generally masculine type of strength it’s not bad really, don’t need the extra plates at all for her it shouldn’t be embarrassing
Has anyone figured out yet how to watch shorts in slow motion? To see those big muscles working. 👀 . . . Oh, he was talking about small muscles, you say?
This should be supplemented with teaching and ensuring good technique. The girl in the beginning doesn’t really know how to press and the oly lifter girl was using a weird technique too but idk if it’s on purpose in this context

Hey man could you make a joint by joint approach video some day? Really interesting concept i learned in my physiotherapy studies
Doesn't matter what weight she's doing; she's doing it.
I mean, she’s still overhead lifting 50lbs, which isn’t anything to be upset about given her stature.
Using someone else's clickbait ass as clickbait. Genius. 😂
Win win for all
You new here?

The girl shouldn’t be ashamed. The bar is 45 lbs so she was doing cool. Gotta start somewhere

I wonder if she could lift heavier overhead if she didn't flare her elbows out as much as she did. Just a thought.
Thats one of the issues with her technique
I didn't even notice she had elbows.
People tend to forget that the bar also weighs 20kg. That‘s actually a lot to press overhead. Don’t be humbled, you’re doing great!
He can't keep getting away with it
kinda sad

I swear, these little weights are the most heaviest in the gym! 😂

the bar is 20kg though, so thats pretty heavy. Heavier than most of those kettle bells people use for overhead press
It’s not about the weight. It’s about lifting more than you did the day before. Also, nice cake.
your cake is even better
Lol shoulder press is no joke 😆
What app is that one about the insertion of the muscles??

Which brand of band is that ?
Not positive but id say it's likely
GYYYYAAATTTTTT brand
Honestly though he has an an affiliate link to buy rogue bands on his website so probably those
Its still over 22 kg. Sure not a lot, but if you pick like 20 random girls and let them do it, probably 15 wont even get it near their neck.
Won't doing these right before pressing fatigue the rotator cuff muscles??
Ia this also good for freestanding handstand pushups?
Incredible tips

Use this trick : feel the barbell weight in the proximal part of the palm rather than gripping. You'll feel it in your deltoids more
Ah, I do those external rotations at the end. I got tired of waking up and having my shoulders pop.
