Hi Sam - to determine the chord name we would need to examine the notes we are playing. Just playing the bottom four strings on that A chord produces the notes A, E, E, and C# - so the chord has its root, A - the 3rd C#, and the 5th E - so it would just be an A major chord. For it to be a 9th chord you would need to add that 9th, or the B note. And for it to be an add 9 you would need to keep the 3rd in the chord and add the 9 on top of that. Hope that helps. That A barre chord on the 5th fret is that considered an A(add9) if you only play the top 4 strings?
