Shaolin Chan Gong 少林禅弓 (Shaolin Archery)

The popularization of Shaolin Ch'angong is an innovative approach to comply with the principle of Shaolin Temple. It combines Ch'an and Martial Arts as a unity. It prompts a new development trend to interpret and promote Buddhism under the premise of protecting the value and tradition of Buddhism religion. In addition, it is also an effective way to set Shaolin Temple as a special case for the globalization of the Ch'anwu (using Martial Arts to attain Ch'an) culture.
Thus, Ch'angong, as an important component of Shaolin culture, provides a
new form to popularize Buddhism. In Volume 116 of Ratnakuta Sutra (Dabao
Jijing), Manjusri Bodhisattva said, "Like a man learning archery, the more he
practices, the more skillful he is. Through intensive practice, he can shoot the target accurately even though he doesn't try to. Likewise, when I cultivate
myself, I think about nothing but to improve myself. As the habit gradually
develops, I will stand by it firmly." These words express the predestined
relationship between the practice of Ch'angong and meditation. Amituofo!
