  • In this episode of Field Notes, Zack Harrison of Northern Red discusses the differences between training and practice.
    Prior to enlisting in the military, Zack was a history teacher and coach in his hometown of Richmond, Va. For the last ten years, Zack has served in the United States Army. His career has been spent in the Special Operations community at Ft. Bragg, NC. He has been a member on Special Operation detachments and an instructor of US Army Green Berets.
    Northern Red LLC is a U.S based, Service-Disable Veteran Owned Small Business founded in 2011 by former US Army Special Operations Veterans and private-sector entrepreneurs. Northern Red is an international risk management firm specializing in high-risk security, training, intelligence operations and information security for public and private sector clients.

    Their CQB course is legit. You do dry runs over and over, adding more complex skills as you go.

    Why are cops dressed up like military? Ninjas around every corner? Civilians everywhere out to get them?

      They train military units also. When LE are suited up to deal with high risk warrants or call outs, there's good reason for it, often after citizens and patrol officers have been shot or killed.

      Cops are targeted all the time. Especially patrol cops. They get killed

      SWAT teams have dressed that way since their inception. They are a para military organization. The rank and file guys don't dress that way, at least they didn't when I was active. Now, the load carrying vest and beard are standard equipment and it doesn't look as professional. They look more thug, now. No tatts, no beards, and body armor goes under the uniform shirt.
