- The gravels in this video are simply unbelieveable. Likely the most colorful Montana river rocks I have ever seen. Seriously...They look like candy! Not only are the agates full of yellow, orange and red, but thecolorful rocks are so plentyful! What a fun day rockhounding, even met a few unexpected friends.
Looking to learn about Yellowstone River agates? This is a publication from 1972 by a man named Paul Fry. This was the very first literature I read when I was learning about Montana agates. It is called "Meanderings of a Montana Rockhound" and it is priceless:

Here is another page with great information on Montana Agates by Jim Landon called "Montana Agate: The Best Catch on the Yellowstone River" :

For all those asking, I do not sell my rocks. As my supply permits, I do rock trades. So, if you have some nice specimens you think I would like to add to my collection, we can trade via any size flat rate post office box. Or, if you are an artist or have something else you think I would like, that's an option too! Please be patient as I have lots of emails and sometimes miss some. If you are wanting to purchase some Montana rocks, I have listed the Stores below of two fellow Montana Rockhounds KatyDidRocks and Theo Kellison, great friends of mine.
As far as places I rockhound, greater than 90% of the time I utilize PUBLIC fishing access spots on the Yellowstone river. KatyDidRocks has a great book out on all the places us Montana rockhounds like to go on the Lower Yellowstone River:
www.etsy.com/l...
While you are there, check out her store! She has some fantastic Montana rocks for purchase.
KatyDidRocks Etsy Store:

Also, if you follow Theo Kellison on RUclips, another fantastic Montana Rockhound, he has an Etsy Store with rocks for sale as well:

Thanks for following and Rock On!
Best of luck on all your hounding adventures.

As a Jasper fan myself, your beach would cause me to Lose My Mind! SO MANY GORGEOUS COLORS!!!!
I cry to myself watching you put back so many beautiful rocks lol I want them all
I know right! I watch the videos after and I am always kicking myself!
I had a stroke 11 months ago that rendered me hemiplegic. Videos like yours are so awesome because they keep my passion for rockhounding alive, better than this , videos such as yours encourage me to keep working at regaining my mobility and range of motion so I can get back out there and do what I love so much, being in nature and finding beautiful rocks. Thank you so much for sharing your passion.
You can do it! Keep up the positivity, it helps sooooo much. I have MS and have come back from using a walker to being active again almost not needing a cane at times. I kept going back to physical therapy because it was my best chance of getting back the mind muscle control. I stopped eating processed food most of the time. Stopped smoking, and evaluated my medication based off necessary or not. Medications were causing me more problems than they were fixing. But out of it all, exercise was the biggest part of my recovery. The mind is way more powerful than what it's credited. Happiness helps tons and so does the right amount of sleep. Some need more than others.🌚

Welcome Crystal! Thanks for watching! 🥰💜💙💚
Unbelievable! The location of your finds is incredible. Watching I was gobsmacked at what you did not pick up. Enjoyed your adventure and looking forward to seeing some of the finished product

I'll leave a few for you, I promise! 😘
Love all the rocks! I'd have a hard time not grabbing all the wonderful finds
We are sitting here drop jawed at all of the material you scan over in just a few steps. I think you've put down 10 pieces I couldn't have passed up.
Just searched #TheFinders and found your channel!! So happy about it and instantly subscribed! Going to keep watching now 👍
Thanks for taking us along on the hunt MM! Very much appreciated~👍 Hope you and yours are well and staying healthy and sane during this strange time! What a great spot for variety of colorful material! So so much silica, so little time! Great gravels for a day out~ And I too am very fond of the agates in red/orange ✔ Watching all the folks out enjoying their hunts along the river sure has helped offset the times am cooped up in the house! Absolutely love the sliced orange half at the 5:00/15:25 mark, very cool with the quartz swirl and am super thankful you went back and picked up the jasper at 13:00, was about to freak out if you passed it up without looking.😁 At 15:46 I like to call those quartz sandwich, almost looks like a smile...Haha, not sure how many times im out hunting on BLM land and cattle will watch everything I do, they even will chatter with me now and again? 🤦♂️ Like i've already got an audience without video~ 🤷♂️ Sure am jealous of the volume of gorgeous petrified wood you'all are finding up there, really beautiful stuff😜 Great hunt, awesome haul of beautiful goodies and thanks for sharing it with us all, hope you have a nice week ahead!
HAHA can't help but feel a little jelly and happy for the Montana Mom here. I find so much enjoyment from seeing all the colors on her hunts. I can't wait to be able to travel to Montana on my own rock hunt someday.
I cant believe how colorful the rocks are there! I totally wanted to jump through the screen and join you. How dreamy to have all those choices! And I love that you put some back. I really enjoy your channel. Thanks for taking us on your adventures!
Thanks you find some of the most amazing places
After seeing it again I'd sleep on that pile of rocks incredible..
You're so kind 💛
OK, seriously, where IS this place??? General area? LOVE this!
I think this is around the Yellowstone River.
ALL OF THEM ARE SO INTERESTING!
Nice coral fossil (14:49), and some pretty carnelian (the red/orange agate), pet wood, and moss agates, and there was a lot of nice jasper and jaspagate out there, too
Thanks Robin! I do love that coral fossil.
A fun trip! Lots of really cool rocks. The cows were both funny and creepy. I can only say "Trust you feelings". They can keep you out of lots of problems. Your safe rd to act on the than not. Be happy, safe and stay healthy 😷⚒ woo to choppet!
Omg, wow, outstanding, amazing, what an area! I would never leave. So many wonderful pieces! Thanks for bringing us along with you on this awesome journey!
You've got so many neat rocks up there.
I’m going crazy over here lol. I am going out of my mind with every single piece you pick up and throw back! I’m not even joking. I would’ve kept every piece and then some. I’m rockhounding with you just through video unfortunately and I have seen probably 50 plus rocks that I would taken and I’m only 5 min in the video lol I don’t know how you can walk away from such amazing pieces. Lol I seriously need to go rockhounding there! 😭
Wanna be there picking up all those agates, petrified wood, Jasper's......those river smooth blue grey rocks surprise you with designs seem neglected ALL WAITING to go home with you.....good you listened to the herd up on the ridge.....gathering to watch over you 😍😘

Wow! so many lovely Rocks. Thank you
What a colourful beach! Rockhounding heaven!❤️
Beautiful little rocks!!!
Some nice agaets I love finding the ones with a quart center 👍
The cows are like, who is this lady talking to? The native Americans used to leave people like you alone, as you must have been touched by the great spirit! Lol 😀 loved your video it rocks!

What an amazing hunt. I find myself talking out loud as I see rocks that you don't pick up. Need to get out there and go on a hunt myself one day!
I agree and I am working on that
Where do you live Melissa? Maybe we can plan a trip together! I’m not against meeting new people!! :)
Beautiful agates you have found, lucky you are, to live near a place of good agates.
They’re staring at you because..... you are a foreign object picking up rocks. 😂
Oh man I NEED to go to the Yellowstone river, I love those marine fossils you found in the beginning, the one with the hole is an imprint where a critter was fossilized and fell out of the stone, i have a few large pieces with multiple holes 😍
I love marine fossils. ❤️
You find some the best rocks...Your eye for color is impeccable....Keep on Rockin...Love your vids
I just love that you take your time to give us a chance to really see these beautiful rocks! Thank you so much.
Thanks Michelle
I still think You and Gravel Bar Hopper collect some of the best and most colorful material in the rockhounding community
I love you New York 😘
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Even the leaverites are beautiful!
Very pretty finds
Wow you collected so many beautiful agates and more, really enjoy watching your rock hunting. Keep on hunting 😃
We find the same red agates here in Oregon, we call it Carnelian. one of my faves. I ♥ MRM
them are some beautiful treasures you found!! thank you for taking us along
Thank you for sharing your hunt. Hope to be there later this year. Beautiful racks.
You’re so extremely fortunate to be able to go out and rockhound and find the stuff that you do! I’m in Arizona and there’s nowhere here that I could go and find as much amazing stuff that you find. I’d be lucky to find a couple of nice pieces. And all the stuff that you were throwing back would be literally gold to me lol
Really, i would live to rock hound in Arizona. You guys have agate, amethyst, garnet, jade, jasper, obsidian, onyx, opal and peridot plus a ton of other stuff i can't recall at the moment.
You found SOOO much good stuff out there! I'm going to have to tag along to this spot some day.
Thanks for posting this video. I wish I were there with you to pick up all your discards. I would have left with a 5 gallon bucket or two full of great finds.
Great job on polishing those rocks too!
I love your videos and the stones you find!😍🤩💚🤎💜❤🖤🤍🧡💛💙🥰
Thank you!
You took home the very beautiful, blue stone of the minute 5.30
: )
Ok you have just inspired me and my girls to go out to find some beautiful stones this weekend. 😊👍🙏. If I may ask. Where are good kinds of places to begin to look. We live in Spanaway Washington city folk unfortunately. Lol
Washington is an amazing rockhounding state...

@@MontanaRockMom Wowee. Thank you for this information so very much. I really do appreciate this very much. 🙏🙏🙏🥰😊🙏🙏🙏
I would totally buy a box of all those pretty rocks you discarded. Karie Did sells them on Etsy. Let us know if you ever do that as well.
There are so many different colors of rocks there.
Enjoyed Thanks. P.S found your channel on video hunt with Theo
Thank you for watching Poppa Rocks!
You miss so much beautiful Jasper
Those cows were looking at you because they don't understand what a camera is. Hehe they were probably thinking why is she talking to rocks.
Nice finds. It is tough when the sun’s hiding. You needed Chopper, those Aborigine attack cows are scary! Lol.
I love your channel!! We want to make a trip out to Montana and would love to know a good spot to find some of your beautiful Montana agates!! Rock on from Retired Rockhounds in Michigan
Seriously anywhere on the Yellowstone River! There is a link in the description to the Rockhounding book I use here. It's really good.
some good finds , Id love to find as much stuff
LOL the cows were funny
Hope you kept the blue one. I can't believe I am just finding this video, i thought I had viewed all of yours. Get well Rockstar!
Thanks Treasure Life! I am doing really well with recovering! It will be week 4 coming up... healing time is 6 to 8 weeks--- so almost there 😉
@@MontanaRockMom good to hear! I think you have an audience that is worried about you. You are a beautiful soul ya know.
Your channel is awesome!👍
Thank you!
Good stuff
Just ONE MORE! PPLLLEEEAASSEE!!
Thanks for the POV style video, I saw so many rocks I wished I could have picked up! Is that near the Yellowstone, or a tributary? What’s the snow cover like right now on the Yellowstone? Keep sharing! Thank you...
...at 8:20 there is a little heart 💕 in the upper right!...always little surprises...
The orange ish red could be fire agate. Beautiful rocks.
Why do they stare? You obviously didn't get the memo it's formal ware today it's funny in Indiana the rocks you are walking past would make some beautiful jewelry and I'd be picking up every Jasper I saw... thanks for the videos I'm wanting to get out west to find these stones but I'm disabled and fighting cancer so I don't have a chance to after the drug trials is over I may have time to until then I'm going with you. I wish I could help carry some of them for you it would be fun
I try to bring a pen light for agate hunting. Also love that banded rock with swirling lines. Did you keep it?
The first rock was a good example of dendritic rock. You should elaborate some on that.
Great stuff what camera are you using ? Those pieces you put back are killer I want to yell at screen go back lol.
Their staring at you cause they can believe your throwing so many nice rocks back 😩
i was thinking what is a crazy person doing messing with our treasures and not chasing us
I find agates and jasper all the time in CA. I was more excited about all the colors you have just in one square foot of dirt.
Some of what you found reminds me of amber.
The 3rd washed rock you showed is stromatalite. You said you didn't know for sure what it was. Nice agates. If you ever want a hounding partner for a day ...
Thanks for the stromatalite info! And thanks for offering a hounding partner day! Are you in the Billings area?
@@MontanaRockMom I live in Sheridan Wyoming. I go up to the Yellowstone on occasion. Sometimes 3 times a month
@@robertschutte3663 what a great place to live...
Lived here pretty much my whole life. Born and raised here
@@robertschutte3663 you know all the good spots then Robert!
I would be there all day, picking most up for tumbling.... Hahahahahahahahaha
The cows were utterly still.. no one was Moo-ving ;)
I needed that laugh today. Thanks Dream Weaver.
I want buy that yellow agate.
Those animal remnants might be chunks of chert. But you are in Montana so who knows! 🖤
Can you please disclose this location?
I have a sapphire claim here in helena, looking for youtubers to take out for great videos. Gotta kayak to the spot. Tonsof fun.
I'm in! I have a Sportsman 106 kayak, brand new and super excited to use it. I'd love to come along.
@@MontanaRockMom jason.genaw2012@gmail.com
This summer is gonna rock! Just let me know when. Keep what ya find no fees.
The very first rock picked up, what was that?
It was a baked clay/mudstone with some mineralization on it
How do you figure out where to go?
Literally anywhere along the river that has gravel beds and public access. If I have the day off, I like to get farther out of town. I like to find my own favorite spots.
@@MontanaRockMom Nice. Doing your own research really helps. Thank you for opening up the possibilities to be found in Montana. I can't wait to travel there someday, thanks to your wonderful videos.
May I ask you why you don’t pick up any Blu Rocks …..I like blu color in any place object and also rocks ….
I've been on a blue kick lately...loving all the blue rocks
do you sell any of your rocks?
Sorry-- I don't have a store or anything.
