    Hey, having the RUclips app installed on my iPad probably pretty bad for privacy haha. I’ve heard of things like newpipe for android, but there really doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of apps like that for iOS. I could just use RUclips in a browser if I wanted to, or just add the RUclips website to my home screen. The only issue is the fact that I have 700 songs installed on the app using the RUclips premium “install videos” thing. I really don’t want to switch over to Spotify and have to manually find all songs, especially because a lot of them probably aren’t even on Spotify. So I don’t really know what I’m asking for, but is the RUclips app so bad for privacy that I should just remove it right away if I care about at all, or is it okay enough to have installed? Of course this all comes to what I as an individual am trying to accomplish in terms of privacy, but what do you think? Also, is there a good open source client where I can download songs onto? Similar to Spotify?

      Why? If you’re using android you’re clearly dumb, the iPhone's integrated design makes security vulnerabilities far less frequent and harder to find, with iOS 14.3 and forward, all the apps you visit will have to explicitly ask for your okay to use the camera and microphone. And just in case you said yes and forgot--you'll see a little green color coded icon up on the top of the screen when the camera is being used and an orange one when the microphone is being accessed.

    Great video! I've been keeping my iPhone on version 13.4.1 mainly because of the contacting tracing "features". In the video you mention automatic phone updates. Do you think it's worth it updating to the newest version and opting out (does Apple actually opt you out?) of the contact tracing "features". I'm kind of torn because while I want the best security, I also care about my privacy and view contact tracing as crossing the line. I don't know whether I should update or not.

    • @techlore
      @techlore  4 года назад +5

      The contact tracing A) Is disabled by default and B) requires an application built for contact tracing to use. If nothing is installed then it won’t even work.
      There is a serious mail bug fixed in 13.5 that is alone a valid reason to update since the contact tracing will not be on.

    You suggested getting rid of iCloud sync, iCloud Drive, Touch ID, Face ID, Safari, which of course can protect your privacy but at the same time defeat the purpose of using an iPhone and limit its potential. So why don’t you just use a non-IOS device then? To me, it sounds like making an iPhone no longer an iPhone anymore...

    I love this channel even after The Hated One vastly improved on your " How to be fully anonymous online guide". But Safari as a secure browser and now this? 😂
    To be fair this would be useful to the majority of Apple sheep that don't care about privacy...

      Gravity Falls Canada How did the hated one improve on Techlore’s guide? Also, a large part of people use apple, and likely won’t change. At least he teaches them how to be as secure as they can with what they’ve got. I hate this weird gatekeeping mentality so many people in the privacy community have. Isn’t the point to teach people how to take their data into their own hands, and teach them how stay more secure as well? What’s the point of spreading awareness if you’re just gonna exclude such large groups of people.

      @@richtofen4888 how can you be in control or know exactly whats going on with an open source kernel smothered by gigabytes of automatically updating proprietary software? Also the gatekeeping privacy community doesn't exclude users it excludes these products. User behavior can change and users can buy better devices since we have an open market.

      I think (1) if you teach people how to be as careful as possible with their privacy on the device they have, (2) they might find out they don't have the best device for it and buy a different one. If you try to prevent step 1, than step 2 will become less likely.
