    The genius of LEGO is that they started with a system that was able to stay the same no matter how many different types of brick they added over they years.

    • @EduardoWeidmanBarijan
      @EduardoWeidmanBarijan 5 лет назад +19

      Yes that is right. They are very proud of the LEGO System indeed. It was a smart move. There is no way to stop creating new stuff because limitations, only if the company would stop.

      That's pretty much what the plan was from the start; for all lego pieces to work together, no matter when they're from or which set.

    • @CT--ko8js
      @CT--ko8js 4 года назад +2

      The best part is that this system is still encouraged today in sets as pieces from one line often end up being used for another

    I'd like to imagine that there is someone, who once picked up Lego as a child in the early 50's, has kept the first brick they've ever got. One day they might go to the toy store with their grandkids and pick up a set. They might look at all the Lego there is and be amazed at how far that little brick came. Then at home they pick up their first Lego brick, and find out that it still fits the bricks of today. They smile, knowing that their childhood is still there after all these years, and that their kids and grandkids will be able to experience the same joy they had when they were young.

    Really loved this episode, as always. Great job, Nick. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this passion project, and I'm pretty sure I learnt something new every episode.
    Interesting that you should mention grandparents struggling to pick out sets for their kids - I work at a LEGO Store, and I do often see people getting overwhelmed. We always try and guide people to sets that seem right for them, and I like to think we get it right most of the time. We always have people coming in saying that when they were a kid it was just bricks, so of course I point them towards Classic.
    It's interesting to be in the centre of a shifting landscape with new sets and themes emerging, but for a lot of people LEGO is still just bricks.

    What a great video. Its amazing to look back to the simplest of times, where everything could be made using only cubes and imagination.
    Who, in the 60', could even dream about something like Bionicle?
    Who could have predicted that there would be a website where you could buy each individual part from sellers around the world?
    Which kid would guess that in 6 decades, that LEGO fans would be so fascinated about the old times and watch a streaming platform that would cover their childhood carefree days?
    We live in amazing times. Let's take a moment to appreciate that we have such incredible intellectual and mental wealth. That we have a thing that connects us to one another, called LEGO.
    I hope we could continue to share our stories on this channel, in any way, even after the new RUclips policies would be applied .

    Very well done. I've been playing with Lego since around 1969 and have memories of buying or receiving as gifts some of those classic sets you pictured. I specifically remember getting the 347 fire station and the 390 hobby car. I wasn't good about keeping sets together. All the parts just got tossed into a bin together. I never had a 'dark age' so most of those pieces are still lurking somewhere among the dozen ten gallon bins of unsorted parts I have.

    The moment the 80-90's box covers started to appear, it was like someone fired a cannonball into my nostalgia.
    I remember reading a magazine for lego I got as a kid back in 1994-1995 and somehow it survived all that time.
    I used to look at all the sets and imagined playing with them, even though I couldn't afford them. Yeah, it was sad but it taught me of all the different brick and baseplates.
    One memory was when lego racers was out on pc and I played the demo; while it installed I looked through the magazine, it really took me back. I really wish lego went back and re-released some of the sets more; although more tweaked to todays standards. Like cowboys and bandits than tribal natives.
    You can still find that same magazine as a .pdf on the internet. The moment the space page opens, you better hold your seat! All those neon-green, orange and white peices would blow you away back then.

    I've actually seen some of these old lego ads, such as Zack the Lego maniac (featuring the SONG), and the famous inventors series of ads. My Lego Network, (if anyone remembers that) had a small section with a video player. The pay included a bunch of tutorials for MLN, as well as several lego ads from over the years, The most recent being the Toa Mahri video from 2007, featuring the song, "crashed". You have no idea how many of these I watched over, and over. They had the classic ad featuring a couple of pirates assembling themselves out of bricks, various Bionicle ads, as well as the ones I mentioned earlier, and more that I can't remember.

    I actually have one of those old brick seperators in gray. They were still using them into the 90s, don't remember what set I got it with but it was the only one I had for years. Now I have dozens of the newer one. Honestly the newer ones are more functional.

    I actually have a few of these sets. They were passed down from my father when he was a kid. The lego logo on each of the studs is slightly different from their modern equivalents.

    Funny enough, I'm not old enough to drink, But I love the just bricks sets, and I would love if lego could bring those old 70's sets, that black boat looks outstanding, and the classic cars are something to write home about.

    The "Curse Word" was removed on the reupload to the LEGO Channel. On the Lego Club channel it remains. Or It may be the other way around I'm not sure. They dub it over and its so bad :D
