Hi Chris here. What a delightful video! Great that you're back and set up to listening to a thousand varieties of music. Looking forward to your cull videos next year!

Hi Chris, yes I seem to have undone a couple of years of culling...I was climbing the ladder towards a honed collection and now I've landed on a snake and slid back to the start...

Always enjoy your videos. Nice to see you, hadn't missed you to be honest though! Also been busy with work and trips etc. Was in Whitby this week by coincidence. Probably Dundee in the next few weeks where I'll be hoping to get some dig time in so cheers for the tip.
Rory and Alastair are extremely good company but I limit my time with them now the UK election is over. I haven't followed the US election much and I basically cut most news feed a few years ago. I'd say I'm much much happier and relaxed as a result.
I had a Scotland trip as well recently. Just over 5 weeks away for work but had the weekends to myself generally. Visited the Outer Hebrides, Caithness, Orkney, Shetland even Fair Isle. During that time If there was anywhere with even a remote possibility of selling records I was in there. Surprising did pretty well. Back seat was totally full by the time I headed home. Probably about 400 LPs maybe 100singles. Got rid of most of it as soon as I got home as I'd already put it all on discogs worked out what it was, played some on RUclips etc. Just kept the most interesting stuff which I'm now working through properly. I think if you have a serious buying habit that's fine if you're buying cheap, the key for me is to move things on quick and only keep the gems. My local friendly market trader was happy with what he got out of my trip, I made a bit and got everything I bought for nothing. More importantly the house isn't over flowing with semi interesting things I'm probably not that bothered for. I have zero consternation as a result.
Have you seen the 'young at heart' documentary about the choir BTW? Ages since I watched it. Very moving.

Wow thanks for taking the time on such a comprehensive response. Lots of crossover it seems. You certainly made the most of your trip to Scotland, visiting some far flung places and picking-up quite a haul...I need to find a local trader to take the surplus...I like the idea of not having semi-interesting records hanging around. That's what the purging of the past couple of years was about but I seem to have lapsed. I'll need to be more ruthless...cheers Dale

Hi Dale. It seems a few of us UK VCers have been taking a break recently - for various reasons. For me the reason has been the demands of work. In my free time I've preferred to read / watch TV rather than play records.
Was interested to hear about your travels and, of course, see what vinyl you've purchased. Nice to find that Chills record at a cheap price. Wasn't aware of that Avengers double - lovely! I've been to Whitby recently, not too long a drive for me. Good to see you back. Take care, John.

Hi John, sorry to hear work is demanding and hope you are enjoying the books and TV (both things I also seem to struggle to have enough time for!). I'd love to go back to Whitby again but out of season as it was rammed when we went. Take care Dale

It's great to see you back, Dale. Hopefully you will find more time now to enjoy your music - and make inroads into your 'pending' box.
Interested to see The Chills EP record - I have an album of theirs titled 'Submarine Bells' issued in 1990 in my fairs stock. Don't know their music at all but piqued to give the album a spin.

Great to see you back Dale, I was thinking about you yesterday and lo and behold a video pops up..serendipity indeed!.
Oh lordy..the whole on line political thing is a brain drain and very depressing..I blocked the worst offenders on my PC and phone months ago..I literally couldn't take it anymore.
Sounds like you had an interesting holiday..my wifes' maid of honour is in a rock choir and did some touring a few years ago.
I've holidayed in Scotland several times over the last 20 years or so, but have never visited Edinburgh.
Thirteen Records sounds like a great shop, it's a joy when shops curate and lay their records out neatly .it makes the whole experienceso much more pleasurable I think...funnily enough I was thinking about Maid in Bedlam the other day, as its a later 70s Renbourn I don't yet have.
Nice Nic Jones too..he's always enjoyable.
Nice of Alan to check up on you, he did the same for me when I had a hiatus.
Look forward to seeing more soon Dale.
    Take care
    Rob.

Good to see you back. I'm with you in that the political landscape in the US is very exhausting as well. I need to get out of the bubble. I do plan on vacationing in Scotland next year. I hope you had a good holiday there. I do have The Chills album Submarine Bells, which I think is great, and would love to find more. Roadmaster looks like a nice find. I haven't seen most of the episodes after Diana Rigg left but it would be interesting to hear the soundtrack. 1000 items is quite a bit but just look at it as you are stocking your library and who knows what you may want to listen to at any time. Cheers.

I was glued to 'The Rest Is Politics' and that Dominic guy was fantastic. I think he said that what politicians don't seem to understand..is that most people dont care about politics' which nails it. I mean I care about politics, but I dont CARE about it in the way political commentators & politicians think I do. I remember buying 'Roadmaster; off Clive about 10 years ago. Its half a brilliant album imo. Ive taken a 2 moth braek due to two elderley parents who live 50 miles apart & i'm the only child. The record fairs have been a bit tired for the last 6 months,.

Hi Harris - Yes you can get into a bubble of people who CARE about politics and lose a bit of perspective...Sorry to hear about your parents and the travelling you are having to do. My dad's recently been diagnosed with dementia so I think time is going to be needed to support my mum with that going forward but I do have my sister local to them who is picking-up way more than her fair share on that currently...

Hi dale , im pretty political, not as much as in my 30s but I was thinking today that I just don’t want to invest my time in the worlds problems , life’s short enough as it is I just want to concentrate on the people I love ,Oldham athletic and music … I listen to radio 4 most mornings that keeps me in the loop … anyway … sounds like a fun trip to Scotland etc Whitby.. I guessed the amount and said 180 That’s probably close to what I’ve purchased.. over 1000. ! 😊… I look forward to the highlights .. good to have you back dale I’ve missed you 👍

Good to see you back Dale. Can I highly recommend retirement! I left work at 60 and have loved my last two years.
I have almost stopped buying any new stuff and just listen to what I’ve got.
Politics is a time consuming and tbh depressing rabbit hole. Politicians are fairly loathsome too. At least we don’t live in US my friend. WTF is wrong with them. How bad was Harris if Trump was seen as better option? 😳 or is the average US citizen just interested in cheaper petrol?
1000 items. Bloody heck. You need to retire to listen to a quarter of them!
Hope to see you on here again soon. Cheers, Chris

    • @TheDigitalGramophone

48% of us “average US citizens” didn’t vote for Trump. We also didn’t paint the entire UK with a broad brush when they elected a xenophobic government that split from the EU. Every incumbent government post-pandemic (no matter what party) was ousted during their next election cycle due to inflation.

Interesting observation: Well balanced individuals will tend to react in similar fashion towards outside stimuli. This leads to the question of free will. If the end result is similar, does free will exist, and, if it does, what exactly is its effect? Steeping into politics will make you more informed but, most, who havent done so, will have a concensus with the result of shifting the needle one way or the other.

    A quiet year then ....... ?
Sounds like a lovely road trip worthy of making a t-shirt for it with the places visited down the back.
I've been to Bamburgh as featured heavily in the storyline of the last kingdom (Utred son of Utred etc) Whitby all great places. The world has gotten trés political and i would be lying if i don't have probably strange extreme to some opinions about all that. Dear oh dear what has happened to Arsenal I've no idea. If we lose to Chelsea today then we have been overtaken just as weirdly City have a huge dip in form.
As they say 'good for the neutral'. I find the neutral always has a soft spot for someone though.......
OK good you are back. I do reach out occasionally and did wonder where you'd gone.
I particularly like the theme and incidental music from the new avengers. Not sure it's available.?

Hi Dale, I can totally understand where you were coming from, my output has dropped off quite a bit too. This was partly due to health problems but I have to admit political events also played a part. The riots in the summer here in the UK hit me hard especially being a son of two immigrants, and the result of the US election has threatened to do the same to a degree. I think for our own mental health we need to back off from such events to a degree and get back to things we enjoy e.g. the music.
Sounds like you had a decent holiday in your job as road manager for your wife. I remember Kirkcaldy well from attending a Ratdog concert there (Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead's band) at the Ice Hockey arena - bit surreal with a couple of hundred people in a venue that holds around 5000! Shame about the results of your tour of the record shops.
Been interested in trying some of the early Gabor Szabo, but not sure about the one you got from your description.
Thirteen Records sounds like a shop well worth visiting if you are in the area. You managed to pick some really good stuff there. Never seen that cover for Roadmaster before. Envious of the Nic Jones - very hard to find. And the John Renbourn Band is excellent - their live album is worth getting too. Hard Road for a fiver - can't go wrong.
1000 items of music - I'm proud of you! Nice to see you back - take care...Pete

I gave up on politics years ago - all a load of hot air and bullshit - spin and more spin boiled down into click bait and 5 word slogans and built in agendas on all sides
Life is short and spend it doing the stuff with the people you love and do the small things that help those around you have a better day
And records / music are good therapy imo ❤

hi start with a quote which is relevant what he thought about the offside rule in football and this idea about whether he was interfering with play o not - brian clough reply if you are on the field you are interfering with play - my thoughts on politics - if yoou are over 16 you are political -- you then choose to be a dog, a sheep or a pig to use orwell's analysis - me i'm anti war, anti globalist and i suppose if i were in uk i would support galloway and in the us favour trump although his refusa; to condemn the gaza genocide is a rd line to me - onto the music in my 2nd comment
