    Phil is one of my favourite ever drummers, him and colin make a rock solid rhythm section

      Same, one of the best rhythm sections. Collin is one of my fav bass players and also underrated!

    I consider Radiohead to be the greatest band of all time, and he is one of the most underrated drummers ever. I loved it when somebody called him a human metronome

    • @shanegrahamdrums
      @shanegrahamdrums  3 года назад +3

      One of the greats for sure!

    • @jeremypreston5009
      @jeremypreston5009 2 года назад +8

      His drumming is so understated. It never overwhelms the rest of the band, it just fills its place perfectly. It takes a drummer who really understands the music they're playing to do that ..... And to swallow their pride and to sit in a supporting role

    • @charbelmoussawer2107
      @charbelmoussawer2107 Год назад

      "They use this drummer to calibrate metronomes" in the comments of weird fishes from the basement's performance. I remember reading it and laughing my ass off for like 5 minutes.

    Phil Selway's an amazing drummer, but I also think he's rock's greatest writer of drum grooves. I think about all the rock drum grooves that I could instantly recognise without hearing the song that weren't written by Phil Selway (so... when the Levee Breaks, Train in Vain, We Will Rock You, Come Together, maybe a few others) and then I think of ones that Phil Selway has written (Subterranean Homesick Alien, Airbag, Climbing Up the Walls, The Tourist, High and Dry, Planet Telex, Myxomatosis, Morning Bell, Pyramid Song, In Limbo, A Wolf at the Door)... feels like he's produced more than the rest of the genre put together. He is to drum grooves what Keith Richard is to riffs and Paul McCartney is to melodies and Bootsy Collins is to basslines, and the fact he's not ranked up there with those musicians is tragic.

    Wow I’m a huge fan of Phil’s drumming, but I don’t think I ever knew about his airbag parts being sampled and cut up

    Thanks for breaking down a great drummer. You’ve captured a really nice kit sound too, wondering what snare you use and overhead mics? Thanks!

    • @shanegrahamdrums

      Thank you! My Snare is an old Leedy & Strupe 6.5 x 14 and the overheads are Shure KSM32’s.

    Thank you for this. Tried playing along with airbag today but couldn’t quite figure it out exactly (I’ve only been playing for around a year so still tough for me to play by ear with certain tougher grooves). Appreciate it!

    There’s too many. Reckoner, Kid A, Exit Music even, Where I end and you begin, Weird Fishes, All I Need, myxamatosis, Lotus Flower, Little By Little, Bloom, Bodysnatchers and 15 step. The man is unreal.

    Putting Phil Selway in the same category as Ringo? Well, in a way. They both are incredibly musical and they bring to the song what it needs, but it ends about there. Phil is way more skilled than Ringo.
