The fact the hertas on the foot pedals are changing throughout is pretty nuts. It's hard enough to do them for such a length of time, let alone change them up correctly throughout. Also, this specific song is one where the screaming vocals are 1000% a perfect fit for the subject of the song. The droning drums are that way for a reason. It's about the experience of having an aneurism.
Very proud of these guys over here in Sweden. Had the pleasure of catching them live way back in the 1990’s. Meshuga is a metal band that were very early with strong links to progg (esp King Crimson) and jazzrock (eg Holdsworth).
My ex girlfriends dad was friends with some of these guys fathers. They used to play some kind of jazz. I think some of that trinkled down a generation.
You folks have provided us with some quality music 🙏 caught these last year at the Royal Albert Hall, a show I know they were very proud to play. Tomas' brother was in attendance for that reason
People talk about things being an acquired taste, and in my experience it's an accurate phrase. It helps to already be into adjacent genres or flavours, but the more extreme ones affect everyone differently. One person might find horror movies or mind-bending movies satisfying to where they're a source of catharsis, even zen, and on the flip side others might be completely repelled by them. It's the same for music. Even if you don't entirely understand it, though, you can always sympathise if you're into the medium. I've found willing exposure to things can positively alter how you see them, quite drastically for me sometimes, and fascination with technical elements of something can really play a hand in that. I never used to be a huge jazz fan, for instance, until I got into more metal-jazz fusion and other djenty stuff. Now I can't get enough, lol.
It helps, I think, to regard metal vocals as just another instrumental texture. Think of it as vocalization, not singing. Just another texture. There are words in there, but they are, IMO, largely incidental. Often written after the music is already more-or-less finalized.
Meshuggah popularized the use of polymeters in metal music. It's basically playing a 5/8 riff with your feet and keeping your hands playing a 4/4 on top of it (just an example, not the case in bleed). By repeating the riffs independently of each other, they rotate on top of the other, creating a mesmerizing groove. Bleed is one of the most intense (sonically and phisically) Meshuggah songs, using and abusing of hertas
I can tell you were enthralled with the drumming cause you were smiling the whole time, and you didn't pause or interrupt ONCE! And don't get me wrong...I love metal but Meshuggah can be a lot on the senses. I enjoyed your reaction to this video :D
i listen to "heavy" music for 25 years, and come across messhuggah abut 2 years ago, at first it was "wow thats crazy, but nah, too extreeme" but its keep growing in to my sonic perception
Tomas said it took him 6 mths to get this drum pattern down. He's definitely one of the best. They have a new album coming out. I am SOOOO excited! I heard a snippet of the new single. I am SOOOO excited! LOL
Glad to find you, my friend. I see your walls are full of the classics of the, like myself, the brother man. Bruh, if you will... Classic funk, R&B, hip hop, that gospel groove you were greasin', yeah I saw that...to see you young people honing the passion, building that musical skill set and gaining the knowledge that yes, sometimes the whites come out with some fly music. Just put the letters "KC" in the above search box, young man... There's no shame in getting inspired rockin' out to music you normally wouldn't bust out while chillin' with your queen or your crew talking about "listen to that triplet against the quarter note bass drum pattern that mans feet is playin'..."
dude its cool that ur honest. u dont have to like metal. i didnt once too and now i love it. what i love about drumming is that i can watch meshuggah or ariana grande or stevie wonder or led zeppelin etc and just see absolutely sick and tight drumming of varying styles. Honestly i think if you play an instrument its easier to understand more genres of music than if you dont.
I know this video is old but you just became one of my fave reactors...you let the song play through, you gave great notes on everything awesome job just sibscribed...try Tim Alexander Chicago Drum Clinic...pretty awesome stuff...metal-wise maybe give Shadow of Intent a shot or Sepultura thank you
Really hoping you’ll get around to Animals As Leaders at some point. Matt Garstka will flip you out. Edit: If you’re a Zildjian fan then you should also check out some of the Zildjian Live series. JD Beck, Larnell Lewis, and Georgio Borlei (sp?) are some great drummers that you need to know. ✌🏻
If you wanna see another incredible machine of a drummer check out the video Chris Turner-40 Roll. Its technical / progressive metal and theres no vocals.
Hi chod it's great to see variety on your channel love those rock /metal videos plus your usual content , for some more metal try the song.. five magics.. by Megadeth from their classic album rust in piece ! thanks
If you haven’t checked out The drummer for Slaughter To Prevail’s straight drum play through of, I Killed A Man, it’ll be worth your time. The video is straight drums without the music. I think it’s even just camera audio, and it’s damn beautiful. ruclips.net/video/xsrGoK2Hqh0/видео.html
@@donfades7869 lol i like thomas haake but he is a 1 trick pony, his drumming is mostly always the same ,eloy is classically trained and more versatile ,no where near his talent.
From a technical standpoint this is one of the easier songs to play by Meshuggah. It's just a matter of building the stamina to play those relentless patterns on the feet. Personally I found this song fun to learn but boring to play.
I love metal but can't get past the horrific vocals. The drummer has amazing chops and speed, but for some reason he does nothing for me. I like drumming with some musicality and he didn't provide any in this tune.
You have 0 clue what you're talking about. Fair comments on the vocals as they're obviously not everyones cup of tea, but the drummer is absolutely at the top of the food chain.
I only have 2 words to discribe when it comes to Tomas Haakes Drumming style: controlled Chaos!
His drumming is always relentless. It feels like a tsunami of sound just destroying everything in It's wake
Perfect word to describe it t
Tsunami is very badly put. It's not a massive mass, it's churgically precise clockwork.

Great culture, people and music.
Meshuggah are the fathers of their genre Djent.

Saw it for the first time… Still can’t believe what I witnessed right now! WFT what a drummer!
My nephew is always mentioning this band when he talks about music. So of course, I had to watch this reaction as soon as I could.
Your nephew is cool.
vis a vis "in the pocket" Tomas is kinda famous for living in that space! Nice reaction as always man!

I like to think of it as an emotional release, but obviously with skill and not just being mindless.
I've listened to metal for 15+ years and almost never listen to the lyrics or care what they are. The voice is an instrument to me.

Something off their Catch 33 album would be fantastic. It was designed as a single 47-minute song, split into 13 sections!
i listen to "heavy" music for 25 years, and come across messhuggah abut 2 years ago, at first it was "wow thats crazy, but nah, too extreeme" but its keep growing in to my sonic perception
im glad you're reaction to this kinda music!!!

Amazing band Meshuggah !!!!

I will dance with you!!! I think this new album is going to be great! It’s been too long and the fans are ready! 🤗💃
SUPER STOKED! can't wait to see them live!
He's a machine.
Time signature is 4/4 from start to finish. It's made up of a series of polymeter patterns.
Check out Between the buried and me. You'll love how talented they are. Prog metal. Heavy with clean lyrics
Amazing 🤯

Yeah I can agree with you, still not easy but not the hardest.
Which are the ones you consider the most difficult to learn?
its not screamo
God…….. please make it stop……click.
You need to do old songs! Your views are dropping! Yuk
yooo the intro the drums are way out of rhythm....
The vocals are too forward and guitar are too back in the mix. But great video 😍
I love metal but can't get past the horrific vocals. The drummer has amazing chops and speed, but for some reason he does nothing for me. I like drumming with some musicality and he didn't provide any in this tune.
You'd better check more their songs, Tomas Hakke is about musicality
Yeah, naw, Meshuggah is 95% rhythmic concepts.
No cheezy melodies in sour-milk-face metal! Haha
