Every day is a great day to be alive but the 60s were an amazing time to be a teenager.

All those great spots became chain retail outlets. Interesting video. When I lived in Cambridge 20+ years ago, all you had in the city centre for entertainment was the Fez Club and Cindy's.

Excellent video to see these spots. My favorite was where they bought their guitars.

Only just started to watch this ..... and errors already.
I played 2nd guitar, Dave Altham played keyboards and sax. Rick Wills was only ever an occasional stand-in and Peter Gilmour covered for Tony Saintey.
David Gilmour was not in The Ramblers. Myself and Clive Welham were.

      John,
I am sorry you feel you were left out.
I was only 12 in 1962 when The Ramblers were around.
When I was researching, I checked with everyone I could find. Sadly, the lovely Clive Welham was already in the early stages of Dementia. He was my first choice for the guide on these videos but his recollection had disappeared.
Had I been about four or five years older I would have been part of ‘the scene’.
My first experience of local bands was around 1965 when, at the age of fifteen, I asked the customers of the pub my parents ran in Histon if they would take me to The Racehorse to watch the bands. My favourites were Somethin’ Else and The Go Fyfe.
I spent over six months researching the material for the videos. As well as having lived in Cambridge since 1962.
I checked with every single person I could find who knew Syd and Roger Waters and David Gilmour.
With regards to the schools and colleges you and the others attended, most of the teachers had left. The only person I could find was David Jones who at the time, was still at The Perse.
I tried to speak with Geoff Mott via RUclips but as soon as I asked any questions about his early life, he blocked me. Sadly, he passed away a few years back. It was a shame he refused to open up. I admired him a lot. The Boston Crabs records are awesome.
I think I brought a lot of fresh information to light.
For example, I discovered the real location for Geoff Mott & The Mottoes' only public performance. Not the Jesus Lane venue always listed before.
As I say, I was too young to be part of ‘the gang’ and I didn’t attend Homerton College, so I couldn’t possibly have known about your relationship with Syd.
It’s been 60 years and the various people I spoke with have different recollections of the line-up of The Ramblers. As you were a member you have better knowledge.
Thank you for getting in touch.
If you have any further information I would love to meet up if you still live in Cambridge.

Just found an audio recording I made with Clive Welham at his house in 1988 and he confirms that David Gilmour DID join the Ramblers towards the end. I will be posting the entire audio (over an hour) in the next few days.

      @@britishcrimewriter-LeeWood Hi Lee
Thanks for the reply. I am staggered what this could be. In what way does it confirm that?
What makes no sense is that The Ramblers had a lead guitarist (Albie Prior) and a vocalist (Chris) and I cannot see how and why David would even wish to join ... I didn't get to play in a line up with David until Clive and I left The Ramblers to join David and David and Tony and create Jokers Wild. I had 'jammed' along with Syd at the Art College and Tech College ... but never in any previous band, especially one I was already in.
Please send me a link / notification once that has been posted.

@@johngordon2023 The recording is from 1988. I am listening to the entire audio as I write this. I hadn't listened to it since around the time it took place. I will get the audio cleaned up (although it is pretty clean) and put it on RUclips in the near future.

Thank you. Shortly after I wrote the message, I was lucky enough to contact a childhood friend of Syd's (the band's first manager), who accompanied me on a tour, visiting some places where Syd spent time, lived , played, bought guitars and drank a few beers. It was a wonderful experience.

I wonder if Ken Stevens Shop is where Syd sold his Mirrored Tele too? Maybe someone in Cambridge still has it. R I P Roger

    • @pinkfloydandsydbarretttour5569
      @pinkfloydandsydbarretttour5569  Год назад

Sadly I have no answer for that. It could be that the stick-on mirror patches were removed and it was sold as a 'normal' Telecaster. In 1968, Ken Stevens was located on Guildhall Street, close to the market square and a few yards from where Syd played an open-air gig with STARS. They certainly bought and sold a lot of guitars, so maybe that's what happened to it?
Another mystery is what happened to the front door of Syd's house on St Margaret's Square. The new owners replaced it. I assume the builder simply took it to a recycling centre, so another artefact disappeared. Obviously, if anyone out there has any information it would be nice to know.

@@MusicalAddictionOnlineLessons Timpsons on Petty Cury is where Ken Stevens's music shop was in the early 1960s. As you walk up to the market square, the edge of the Guildhall, where the hideous statue is, was the location for the performance by STARS. The Friends Meeting House on Jesus Lane is where Syd performed with Geoff Mott and the Mottoes. If you stand in front of the Round Church, there is a passageway to the right that leads to the university centre. If you find the right person on reception, they might allow you to go downstairs and round to the union cellars. Down the passageway at the side of TK Maxx is where the Criterion pub was located. And along Sidney Street to where the entrance to Sainsbury's supermarket is where the Italian cafe was situated. King Street is where Syd purchased his paints from the art shop called Tindalls. Have a lovely time.
