True story about meeting this amazing group.
It was when this album was released, and they were touring. I saw them in Denver, CO with a friend. We were right up front.
They began playing and by the third song my left ear was ringing with pain. The lead singer stopped, walked to the backstage, came back to the frontstage and bent down to hand me something. Everyone thought it was a guitar pick. It wasn't. It was ear plugs. A simple, kind gesture. ❤
After the show, my friend who worked at 92.5 radio in Denver got us back stage passes.
I bought a shirt, etc. We went back and said, "Hi" and introduced ourselves. Then, the lead singer (I apologize I forgot his name atm) said to me, "Sometimes there's just a tune that gets to me, too. I saw you standing there plugging your ear with your hand/finger." He then autographed my shirt and drew little ear plugs! I still own the shirt and won't wear or wash it.
They were all so amazing and down to earth guys. 🙌

A fantastic song by a band I loved then and love now - hard-driving yet beautiful. The ‘90s were not really my decade - I much preferred the three decades preceding it - but great music has no era. I am gratified they are still around and have made it through to this era relatively unscathed - older, wiser, still rockin’. What more can you ask from life these days?

Open up and let me in
I was lucky to live, don't need to win
Forgave myself and if that's a sin
It's not enough you'd even know it
You did right to call my bluff
'Cause I won't say when I've had enough
And I worked so hard to need this stuff
And you tried so long to just ignore it
Won't you come down where I am
    Words are hidden, understand
    I won't repeat myself again
I will not repeat myself again
    It's another promise D.O.A.
And despite my every hope there is no truth
    Behind my best intentioned oath
Won't you come down where I am
    Words are hidden, understand
    Won't you come down
Been away to long, I know I have
Won't you come down, help me stand
There is healing in your hands
Won't you come down where I am
    Words all leave me
    Been away too long
I know I've been away too long
    I know I have

the 1990s were full of socially relevant rock bands , thats why they were called alternative rock , Toad The Wet Sprocket were one of those great champions of the college radio sound, inspiring the youth to get political :)

Toad The Wet Sprocket, Gin Blossoms, Better Than Ezra, Hootie And The Blowfish were great, so were Everclear, Soul Aslyum, Eve 6, Semisonic, Smashmouth, Smashing Pumpkins, Collective Soul, R.E.M, Pearl Jam, Live, Alice In Chains, Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Janes Addiction, Offspring, Bad Religion, Sun Volt, Monster Magnet, Red Hot Chili Peppers and on and on , all these 1990s alternative rock, grunge, powerpop and punk bands had good music because it was all socially and politically relevant to the youth of America.

Daniel Castellammare Better than Ezra was huge though; I don't know I can say they didn't get the deserved attention. Toad on the other hand has largely been forgotten.

I'm surprised I didn't know about the hits! I was so impressed with Dulcinea.

this is a great song. This was one of the few bands of which I was satisfied when i had one of each album and that not hard to achieve. I don't know if the world just didn't give Toad a fair shot, or if Toad had the shot and thats where it landed. I liked about haolf the songs, many of the off beats. I will always find them genuine, fluid and interesting.

When I close my eyes, I feel like I am in second grade listening to this, wearing Lee Pipes. Annnd now they are opened and life sucks.

I just saw them on June 11. Them and Gin Blossoms are who I wanted to see. Barenaked Ladies was awesome too.

Interesting that this is a slightly different version in the video (...looped for an extra half-chorus at the end....and a fade-out at the end instead of the standard ending). I'd love to know how those decisions get made (record company, I'm guessing).

Nice observation. Yes: I had this album on CD, and it ended differently. I listened to that CD a lot back in 1997-2002. This is the first time seeing the “official” video. If it was the record company, I see why they did it: This ending is more uplifting, musically speaking. That part where it drops back down was always unnecessary to me. They had a good momentum, there’s no reason to drop it back down. I understand them dropping it down during the course of the song, because then they can build it back up. This was always my favorite Toad song because most of their songs are too downtrodden. This one is uplifting.
