Thank you, BBC, for shedding light on the struggles faced by my community, the Mising Tribe. Our challenges are often overlooked by both the administration and the mainstream media, as we don’t fit into the so-called 'mainstream'. It’s disheartening that the media prioritizes trivial matters, like social media influencers and latest insta trends, over critical issues like this, which deserve urgent attention. It pains me deeply that even after 77 years of independence, our people still lack access to basic healthcare and sanitation. It's a bitter reminder that, for some of us, true freedom remains distant promise.
Thank you for covering this less celebrated yet very if not the most unique approach of Assam's Rural healthcare in which I am proud to have served some 6-7 years ago. P. S. Its Freighter boat, not Fighter boat. The common lingo there makes it seem like the 2nd one.
We've been actively engaged in Climate Tech initiatives in Tinsukia, Assam. We're eager to explore opportunities to contribute to this remarkable health crusade. Thank you, BBC, for sharing the stories of these selfless health workers. Deserve immense respect!!!
Trust me I am from Assam India, and to my knowledge I never heard about these island villages. I appreciate health workers adaptations to reach these sites and helping them with the medical examinations. They really dont have access to hospitals and health cares. Hope Assam Govt. set up regular camps and try to build a local health care for these people, especially the childrens. And here we are complaining so and so, damn this struggle will be lesser know to us , we cannot comprehend it.
So many Doctors and Nurses had lost their lives by doing this, you forgot to mention them sir. During flood, many doctors and nurses, even after they're warned not to go by boat to these islands, they go there and try to help the people. But on their way, something horrible happens and they never come back. 😢 My prayers goes to the family members of them 🙏🏾🕉️✊🏾 জয় আই অসম

I was born in one of the adjacent village of Laika Pumia way back in 1990s. It was flourished in abundance with wildlife and beautiful scenery. I just can’t forget how beautiful it was. But the devastating flood almost every year has compelled half of the population to migrate towards the urban areas.
We are in the same profession serving reverine area.. In this century of AI, scientist explore Mars, moon.. And what not.. But working in this rural area one thought come across my mind do we ignore those area or focus only on developing area .. Yes their life is peaceful in serenity but they lack progress they deserved. Hope this video will get the nationwide attention. They also deserve a life with facilities, good transportation and their children to focus on the growth of their life and not on the problems faced due to this geographical location.
Salute to those people and medical team, we live in urban land and complain about life.. These are basically eye opener to us…. Great thought Mr Hazarika🙏
Much needed documentaries like these that show the real happenings. I wish the local organisations that fight over silly petty issues solve the REAL PROBLEMS of their people. ( Every issue is important but to identify, solve and stand for the real problems makes the difference). Great initiative done by the NGO.
Beautiful piece of journalism, kiddos to BBC team, thank you for highlighting this problem I hope govt is planning a long term solution regarding this problem.
I would like to express my appreciation for the BBC's thorough coverage of the crisis affecting small areas of Assam. Your reporting sheds light on the immense difficulties faced by local clinics, highlighting the challenges of limited resources and access to healthcare. Additionally, your portrayal of the living conditions in these communities emphasizes the resilience of the people amidst adversity. This coverage is crucial in raising awareness and fostering a greater understanding of the urgent needs in the region. Thank you for bringing these important stories to the forefront.
“Thank you, BBC News, for covering the work we do at the Boat Clinic. Your support helps shine a light on the healthcare challenges faced by remote communities and the efforts being made to address them. Love from Dhemaji Boat Clinic.”
Thanks for documenting this. Indeed a lot needs to be done. May be atleast the boat visits can be increased with different set of teams because the care givers too need to be cared for.
We can clearly see that how much our state medical sector is poor as compared with others state in India. Govt need to focus more contribution on the state helth sector.
Get to know after reading an Assamese novel named MADHUMITA MAHAN by Pankaj Govinda Medhi. A huge round of applause to BBC while our Assamese media is far away from this kind of news.
Government negligence on tribal people. Especially to Mising Tribe. The pathetic health facility received by 2nd largest tribe of Mising.... Mostly inhabitants nearby banks of Brahmaputra river.
Anyone from Assam watching this video??

Great job by @BBCIndia. Thanks for covering this unique service of Assam. Love from Guwahati, Assam💚💚🚣🏻🚣🏻
She meant ANM, (Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery)
Assam govt should invest more in this sector.

Serving one year as a medical officer in rural areas, the dilapidated condition of the villagers is a new normal life for them.

Majuli
Government negligence on tribal people. Especially to Mising Tribe.

Laika Pamua Gaon..kind of a ultra small river island...with a very few population...which cannot contribute good number of votes...so no development..
Assam Govt never care for Majuli people😢
BBC wants to know what is the potential of converting the remaining tribals of Assam. Wherever there is BBC there is a threat on local population.
Which language they speaking 🗣️?
Its definitely not Assamese!
Mising language
Miri Mishing Tani
There many languages spoken by people in Assam
This is mising language
Assamese is connecting language of both tribal and non-tribal Assamese
Mising mostly. The last woman spoke Assamese.
Mising language. Mising is the second largest tribe in Assam.
