Underated and under apprecieted warnings here. I think creators need a base knowledge of this to make sure they are staying on the right side of the platform (and the law)!
What about those creators saying "share my videos." Does the fair use and copyright laws the same with sharing the videos. Also can you live stream a video from a free platform?
Hey Marcus! Thank you so much for this video! I'm still confused by one thing: how do channels that base their entire content on copyrighted content (such as channels that do movie clips, and big channels, not just small creators) do it? Is there something I'm missing? Is this allowed? I'm super confused.
The biggest boss character in the room is google. No one seems to either know, understand why youtube says copyrighted footage is okay after content id recognizes something. It literally says to the infringer, it's not a copyright strike, the rights holder allows the content to be used on youtube. IMO this fully establishes youtube as an enabler, complicit, and fully responsible like a bar having to purchase a cover license in order to play music in their bar. When I confront youtube about this they give me the run around.
Well if you think your copyright has been infringed then you have to go through RUclips's system for that. Or better yet, get a lawyer to advise you on what best to do.
In the case you describe, the good thing about copyright violations is that RUclips will let you know very quickly if your upload is in copyright violation. They even tell you the exact minute in your vid the violation occurs, and you have the chance to edit your vid in RUclips studio. I say go for it. My channel is all about readings, but I had to figure out how to do it properly. Best of luck.
I dont understand. The amount of copyrighted video used is relative to the video ? For example: case 1) i take 7 seconds of a 7 seconds copyrighted video, Case 2) i take 7 seconds of a 3 hour copyrighted video. Yes both case you use little amount but in the first case you use the entire video clip but in the second case you use only i little part of the video. so which case is legit and which not?
What if you use videos off Instagram? And upload them and there is no copyright warning or strike does it still effect your channel when you try to get monetized?
Hello, We are a fairground that holds several rodeos each year. During those rodeos, the announcer plays background music. We want to stream those rodeos through RUclips on our webpage. We were told that if RUclips can detect music in the background, they could shut us down. We do pay a small fee each year to a couple of music licensee companies that is supposed to cover us for playing music on our facilities. We don't know exactly how it works, as we have never been challenged. If its just background music will RUclips shut us down? If so, what do we need to do to make sure we are good to go?
I was interviewed by a content creator/influencer. (It's me and her in the video) She let us modify the video a bit and then she put it up. Making changes to her channel, she took it down recently. We edited and modified the orig video, adding pictures to it. Would this be a problem with YT? I told the orig. creator what we have done. It's been up a few days and RUclips has said nothing negative.
Well, yes and no 😂. It's a pretty complicated topic but aside from getting advice from a lawyer the best rule of thumb is to always ask yourself is if the amount of clips you included in your video is enough to hurt the original work financially.
I'd say it was made with good intentions in the beginning until big corporations (mostly Disney) decided to change it up but you didn't hear that from me. 😂
Hello! What if i have a channel about collecting vinyls and im talkin there about band history and i want to play some short parts of video clips or songs.. like Led Zeppelin or TOOL tec? thnx
Can we use official gameplay trailers and gameplay demo footages that was released for marketing purposes by the game publishers in our own youtube videos without getting a copyright strike? Does that fall under fair use?
The thing is that youtube ai detect the video and fall directly in the copyright, so even if it fair use, i wont be able to monetise the video? but the video will still be public?
I have a question and appreciate it if anyone can help, so would it be copyright safe if I download movies and then edit/trim them into a shorter version (10 to 15 min) only using the original video and audio? and is it safe to put the name of the movie in the title? so basically I wouldn't add any video or audio to the original content, it would be just trimming the whole movie and making a shorter version...
No. That's not fair use. Fair use would be short 5-10 second clips with you giving running commentary before, during, and after the clip - to criticize or parody the clip, or to use it as a supplemental visual to illustrate a teaching point or sharing news.
What about people making for example a Harry Potter character from clay? Or sculpting a Minecraft character. Can you have 'Harry Potter' in your title? If you're monetizing your channel then you're making money from their name still right? Could they still sue you?
This is not what I was looking for. I would like to know if any action is being taken to secure content creators rights regarding unfair policies that allows them to demonetize their content for whatever reason they feel fit and refusing to even inform them of exactly what policy they violated, effectively taking away their source of income. I'm not a content creator myself but, many creators are suffering from this tyranny such as horror storytellers and anyone who so much as respectfully questions a certain political party. Or voices an opinion that some may find "insensitive"

Next video topic is that readers and people who shared criticism or commentary on the blasphemous opening ceremony at the Olympics mocking the Last Supper are having those posts illegally removed on copyright grounds. Just because they don't like the backlash they are getting with mostly negative comments. Regarding item no. 4, for doing this I want the Olympics and their advertisers/sponsors to suffer financially. I will not watch the Olympics.
Im taking an educated guess that you can give freedom of speech under the human rights act. However swearing/threatening etc is NOT allowed i guess in some cases telling the truth?😊

If I create a sculpting tutorial video using a marvel comic book characters and monetize it, will I be copyrighted?
I literally need to watch this over and over and over again just to make sure I understand every little detail

Your video answers questions that the RUclips channel's video explanation doesn't.

Why are there so much copyright protected material on youtube uploaded by random people and nothing happens?
I just started a gaming channel so im wondering whether music in games can be Copyrighted so how do you avoid it
Sometimes in games like Fortnite, they have creator setting to turn off all copyright music.

How do you deal with a company that tries stealing your videos?

I thinking about uploading videos about books I read and I'm worried about copyrighting stuff :/.

When I say 'we edited it.... I mean me and my husband) We put the new video on my channel.
Ah the cake saga, a man of culture...
Basically manipulate the shortest possible clip from the original & you are good to go. Right?
Well, yes and no 😂. It's a pretty complicated topic but aside from getting advice from a lawyer the best rule of thumb is to always ask yourself is if the amount of clips you included in your video is enough to hurt the original work financially.
Copyright is the dumbest anti-market pro monopolist idea ever
I'd say it was made with good intentions in the beginning until big corporations (mostly Disney) decided to change it up but you didn't hear that from me. 😂
What if you're performing a cover, singing, drums, guitar, etc? I see many music creators doing this...
Hello! What if i have a channel about collecting vinyls and im talkin there about band history and i want to play some short parts of video clips or songs.. like Led Zeppelin or TOOL tec? thnx
I'd recommend not messing with youtube and copyright. They have no remorse and will terminate you like nothing
I’d say that if you use only a small clip then it’s ok, but if it’s a copy and paste of it then it’s copyright
Essentially. That's why most reaction channels don't last long
What about using copyrighted songs or music in your video?
Hi. Is it possible to use other people's copyrighted videos to make a new video, of course with my edit, and telling the story of the game?
Nice 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
May I use your videos on my websites?
Can we use official gameplay trailers and gameplay demo footages that was released for marketing purposes by the game publishers in our own youtube videos without getting a copyright strike? Does that fall under fair use?
Great question, does anyone know the answer to this?
These laws are ridiculous I just want to make commentary on like a 30 second clip. Jesus Christ 😭 😂
Is there any books I can read about this?
The thing is that youtube ai detect the video and fall directly in the copyright, so even if it fair use, i wont be able to monetise the video? but the video will still be public?
So could I give my commentary after I play the small clip?
Always give the commentary during the clip.
With such subjective ambiguousness anything could be deemed a copyright strike... Like literally everything we use comes from some other creator..

Can youtube be sued for their double standards and not allowing certain facts to be stated ?
I did this and it worked on my chanle
Hey glad we could help!
