Heartbreakingly beautiful song, I hadn't heard this song in a while. It brought tears to my eyes. Stevie's music can do that. I was fortunate enough to see him perform live in Kansas City in 2015. Lately is one of the most beautiful ballads ever written by Stevie Wonder. With just piano chords and bass synth backing a vocal of unsurpassed emotional power, it tells the story of a love he feels is dying but just wishes his premonitions miss. Musically, Wonder uses minor 7th, 9th, and 11th chords to make the song sound more heart-wrenching and sad. The sudden crescendo and shift in key that accompany the final chorus repeat are just heart-rending. It finally ends in yet another minor key, leaving the listener wondering if the inevitable breakup of the couple has occurred or if the lover singing the song has decided to stick it out, suffer, and go on.
Great reaction to such a fantastic song & a true legend in Mr. Wonder. He has so many great songs. Check out Ribbon in the Sky which is a beautiful song about his daughter
@@DLynn I still prefer you to do Anthony Callea "Back at One" Or Linda Eder duet with Christiane Knoll "In his Eyes" title will be Jekyle & Hyde-in his eyes. Or just Linda on the Rosie show singing another song ( most popular from that play) "Someone like you" I assure you, you will love any of them.
Superstition has always been my fave. He even did a quick cameo in SRV's cover video of that song. Great writer for sure as well as an entertainer. Beautiful as always D. Glitter catches the eye!
A great talent, and by all accounts, a fine human being. First saw Little Stevie Wonder (13 then I think) in 1964 on a variety program - he sang Fingertips. Off to see if I can find a video (black & white, of course) of that '64 performance.

Also, if you would, give a listen, to John Prine, a folk/country guy who I just found out a few minutes ago died from the virus - raspy voice and a way with lyrics. If you can (I don't understand all copyright considerations) react to Hello In There, a good example of his great lyrics. I like your reactions in part because you take time to get background on the performer and convey it nicely to the listener. This helps attribute a song to the original performer (Roberta Flack for Killing Me Softly, vs. The Fugees). If you get the chance, please react to Bill Withers (Lovely Day) - another old guy of character who recently died. And lastly, keep up the good work, and stay safe!
