my first memory of what self love is was in elementary school. the teacher had 2 buckets - one had a lot of small, colorful, fuzzy balls, and the other was empty. she said to imagine the balls as our happiness or smth. then she said some shit like “u need to keep track of how many balls u have, bc if you give ur friend too many of your own balls, you won’t have enough for yourself.” i think this is one of the actually helpful things i learned in school, and it was an excellent way of communicating something so complex to kids.

If I'd have to give "Loving Yourself" an Honest Review: I'd give it a 9/10. It's absolutely incredible in the right dosage. Too low is bad, and too much is bad, as loving yourself a bit too much makes people not love you as much. But if you love yourself just right, best feeling in the world.

  • @SoundBubble
    @SoundBubble Месяц назад +58

Yeah, I think "self-love" is better called "self-acceptance" since I don't think I'd ever share the same feeling I have towards loved one with myself. Accepting your flaws, hobbies, interests, talents. And while that doesn't mean you can't work on your person, assuming they're things that can be "fixed", it does mean accepting that even if you fail and just be the person that you are, it's perfectly fine and your life is worth living. It's hard to get to that point, but I'd say inevitable if you truly want to become happy with your life.

I personally really struggled with my face and the way I looked. So I sat down one time and really looked at myself in the mirror and thought ‘what do I actually like about myself’ i realised how I loved my eyes. Then everyday after that I started thinking: ‘well my nose isn’t that bad’, ‘my eyebrows are pretty’ and that went on. I slowly started getting used to how I looked and realised that your face and features are a one time thing, it’s unique and different from other people’s features. You are one of a kind. You are beautiful.

When I was seeing a therapist, they had me do a meditation practice about visualizing someone who's compassionate towards you in order to find compassion towards yourself. They asked me to imagine the first thing in my mind, and what I had imagined was a stereotypical californian skateboarder who was extremely goofy, positive, and told me "if you get down, keep getting back up, and do those pop shove its".
I have forgotten this until this video, but I want to make that skateboarder proud.

Big time Mika I got the autism, and autism adhd and depression are like the holy trinity of “holy shit what the fuck is existence and why does it feel so hard”. I think I have a better understanding of my struggles though.
Extending empathy out for others is comparatively easy to doing it to oneself. I feel like this is cause we kinda forget how to teach that over the years in current era. Victor Frankl is a great source for this, but finding meaning, and becoming that meaning is a great way to find self love. Loving others (as in community and stuff) can give you that great feeling of being apart of something bigger.
I’m recovering and my soul feels like it’s healing, and I hope everyone can find the same for themselves. The world is your oyster :)

fucking hell, i really needed this right now, i've been struggling a ton with worrying about guilt of ruining a friendship with an old crush by trying to tell her my feelings in the worst, most indirect yet direct way possible, whether to try and talk with her to reconcile or just continue leaving her be, feeling that even if she actually had forgiven me by now, i wouldn't deserve it for not having apologized to her and owning my shit, and from there i learned i have a hero complex, always prioritizing others' feelings over myself, and i've become unsure of who i am, why i do things for others rather than myself, if what i do for others genuinely helps them in any meaningful way, or if it actually does harm like with my old crush, wondering how i can stop worrying about others so i can start focusing on myself, if selflessness is actually selfish, if it's selfish to be myself, but then again, i don't know myself anymore, what i'd be like without a hero complex, abandonment issues, an inferiority complex, perfectionism, just a higher self-esteem...
but this video has been a really good starting point for me to figure out the healing process from, and how to better myself, and live for myself, beyond trying to improve myself through basic needs like diet, sleep, and getting fit, since none of those directly combat the real issues beneath

The analogy of “imagine someone you love” made it very clear that I have perhaps the opposite problem. I definitely love myself, but possibly don’t love anybody else (at least in the manner described). I have full faith and trust in myself, my values, and my choices. Others I feel almost incapable of trusting in a similar manner.
I still have compassion and sympathy (though I struggle with empathy), so it’s not like I’ll harm others to get my way. However, I just can’t feel confident that anybody besides myself has my best interests at heart.
Could be some sort of emotional repression, or maybe just healthy self-prioritization, not sure. I thought you’d like to know videos like these are thought-provoking even to those who are perhaps not the target audience!

As someone who struggles with this, my biggest advice is to just try to smile when you wake up, or do a hard task, and think or write down one or two or more things you would tell someone else when they would be struggling. Like you're easing your own worries, also writing down what you love about yourself too.
Another tip, smile when doing something tough or hard, because for me it actually makes things more fun! Think of a stupid joke to make yourself laugh and ease your anxiety (I struggle with anxiety very badly). Helps with the making harder things easier because you associate something positve with it.

This made me want to start painting again, I thought what I was making wasn't good enough but this reminded me that I just need to do what I love. Thank you Mika

I do a similar exercise, sometimes. I just sorta take a step "outside" myself. Like, I try to separate my consciousness from my identity. It kinda helps me treat myself as a friend.
It definitely takes practice. I like your exercise. I'll definitely try to use it.
Also, good to see you uploading again. Feels like it's been a long time!

Thank you for sharing your experience with this. I started feeling self love only after 8 months of weekly therapy. It was so worth it.

I think this made me realize that my lack of self love affected what I thought others thought of me, I couldn't imagine that anyone cared about me that much

I call my process “whittling”kind of like whittling an always growing piece of wood. It’s a constant, slow process with an always changing material. And sometimes taking too big of a chunk out isn’t actually good, and sometimes, it’s perfectly fine just how it is.
