"The Process" - How to screen print a 3 color/1 location design

- We blend the daily activity of our print shop, into the visual process of creating and printing a 3 color/1 location design.
The video opens with a glimpse into what the final print will look like. Then we jump into "The Process" of creating the films from our print-ready artwork, exposing and washing out the screens, registering the job on press and finally back to our finished print! All while being taken on a quick journey around Four Ambition.

First video I’ve ever seen where someone breaks down the separation colors on film. Nice work. This’ll be hugely beneficial to tons of beginners. Wish I’d have seen this a year ago

Very cool video. Looks like a nice shop. People always ask me about working with unexposed screens in light. I try to explain that we use yellow safe lights as a precaution but most emulsions are only sensitive to UV light. Therefore you can actually do what you did here without much of a problem most of the time. Come get some Catspit~!

Thank you very much for posting this video! This video is definitely going to be on my favourites for a long time to come. As a newbie to the art of screen printing I find myself digging deeper and deeper into this world. Each layer presenting its own layer of pitfalls and satisfaction. Lots and lots of trial and error (and tears...shhhh) so its really helpful to see that as long as i keep trying it will work out. thanks again.

Great video. What is the sheet to use after you wash out the design? Is it a towel to get most the water off before it goes in front of the box fans?

I use BAB'S Waterproof Inkjet Positive Film 13" x 19" (100 Sheets) which you can buy on Amazon. Not sure what's being used in the video but this works great for my setup at home.

What was that piece of fabric that you put on and then pulled off the screen after washing out the emuslison?
was just to use to help soak up water after washing out. Any kind of paper does the same thing. We just been using test print sheets cause they dry and can use over and over.
Thanks for the suggestion, never thought to try something like that.

How are you able to handle the unexposed screens in daylight before the image is exposed?
never had an issue with unexposed screens being in flourescent lighting for a few minutes. If its actual sunlight, that would be an issue but it would take roughly 10 minutes of flourescent light to start being an issue. Been doing it this way for 15 years and never have an issue
I always thought that having a photo-emulsion coated screen exposed for a few min in fluorescent light would not be enough to expose the emulsion--but never brave enough to test the idea! Maybe I will try this!
Is it a dual cure emulsion, what brand? I have some photopolymer emulsion that exposes in like 45 seconds but man it seems if it touches any light whatsoever it's ruined. My dual cure is really forgiving but annoying because of the 4 minute expose time.
Do you sell Screen if someone wants to do the print themselves?

I work on my unexposed screen in a dark room using a yellow bulb.. didnt know exposing to a flourescent isn 't an issue..

You've been rocking the wood frames forever...can I ask why? No interest in aluminum frames?
Also, one screen was blue emulsion...we're you using wb and plastisol?

We have several aluminum frames as well. Especially with the 23x31 frames. The smaller ones, we never have much issue with warping and they are less expensive. We usually just have them remeshed.
also it was the same emulsion, plastisol emulsion but when on yellow mesh screen, it looks green.

Has anyone told you not to push your squeegee? They are meant to be dragged- like a paint brush. The only time they should be pushed is to release the colour build-up from the forward edge of the squeegee.
