it's probably not a guise and her human form is probably that old, also may be the same reason that cloud retainer no longer wants to return to that form

@@firstservantofmumeiguardia6963 It was kinda of touched upon in the story. I think she wanted to experience a human life, so she let her human guise age to match the wisdom she came to have over the years. Out of the all the Adepti, Ping is the most close to them than even Ganyu and Zhongli.
The story of guizhong and madame Ping is actually a reference to a Chinese legend: Buoya and Ziqi. In ancient China, the two were good friends. Buoya was good at playing the guzheng, and Ziqi was good at listening the sound of guzheng. When Buoya played the guzheng while thinking about mountains, Ziqi felt the majestic mountains from the sound of music; when Buoya played the guzheng thinking about flowing water, Ziqi felt the vast rivers. After Ziqi's death, Buoya never played the guzheng again, because he knew that no one could understand his music like Ziqi. This is a sad story, and I am happy that mihoyo has integrated such an ancient Chinese legend into the game, it is really connotative
Well now it makes the adepti story even better. I love integrating parts of culture in such ways. Reminds me of how Hearts of Stone from Witcher 3 incorporated elements from the polish legend about a sorcerer noble Mister Twardowski who made a deal with a devil.

@@Suited_Natdon't forget the first archons. During the Liyue Archon Quest it was said that the first archons(actual winners of the Archon War) used to come to Liyue to drink & chat with Rex Lapis. Out of them only Barbatos/Venti is alive. Then there were other Gods who allied themselves with Rex Lapis during the archon War & got killed in the war just like Guizhong. Zhongli has the most losses among all the Archons & is also the most matured one among all the archons. Just think of the First Story quest of Zhongli. He even forgave & expressed his grief for "The overlord of the Tides" even though they were literal enemies during the Archon war.

They are also one of those that share the memory..alongside your allies, your loved ones, your friends, the people who share those memories are long gone for "Rex Lapis", so even enemies will be cherished, no matter how much you hate them, as long as they are the last one to have that mutual memory. And as of now, he only has "Barbatos", so no matter how much he may think he is annoying, as long as he is gone, there will truly be nobody to share memories with, because they have all..become a memory.

Guizhong, Madame Ping, Cloud Retainer, and Zhongli look incredible in this cutscene. I feel that there is still so much of Liyue's story yet to be told, and I'm excited about it.
"We think of human life as like a lantern that's lit one minute and extinguished the next." Zhongli is barely talked about here but him being in the story adds so much. I keep on getting reminded that he's been there for so long and has outlived so many people close to him, like all the other archons.
Its actually pretty nice to see Zhongli celebrating lantern with his friends, despite them not being really good at cooking. They should have invited gouba too.

I mean, we have known that giuzhong created the ballista waaaay back when we're just getting into liyue so I honestly surprised that some ppl though giuzhong as quiet and gentle.
When you thought they couldn't top last year Lantern Rite, they did it this year. This was so damn emotional. So dang. Genshin is truly a masterpiece and art in its own way.
We finally got to see Guizhong`s face!!!. Madame Ping`s past is so fitting and touching, Guizhong meant soooo much to her (rival and best buddy). What I love the most is that most of the fanbase got Guizhong`s character wrong, she wasnt some delicate flower but a badass inventor. She was fierce and stubborn, but also kind and friendly. RIP Guizhong, she is missed.
That's what I always loved about Chinese series - the female leads are often feminine yet badass ❤️ Its refreshing to see its not one or the other only. If you haven't already, you should give some Chinese fantasy series (xianxia) a go :3
I've never seen someone trying to present her as a delicate flower. She was already characterised via the description of Memories of Dust (Dust is her eponym, she was the goddess of Dust), and she actually seemed kind of brutal to Rex Lapis, who was supposed to be her dearest friend. I've always wondered, and still wonder, what happened between them to make her treat him that way. Clearly there is still love (friendly or otherwise) between them at the time of that dialogue, because she gives him an extremely meaningful gift by which to remember her, but she also ties a kind of "punishment" into it. And it clearly still bothers Zhongli, even if he doesn't share that pain with anyone, because although we often see him contemplate the puzzle box, we also see him _smash it into the ground at high velocities_ to smite his enemies (the Planet Befall "meteor" is also Guizhong's puzzle box, the same as we see orbit him in his idle animation and the same as appears as the catalyst Memories of Dust).

I cried to the part where they all saw guizhongs lifeless body it was heartbreaking to see her in that way and she was the one that made them have great times with each other.
Cloud Retainer, Madame Ping, even Zhongli they still carry the many wounds and still remember the friends that they have lost during the Archon War. Out of all the Gods in Liyue, Guizhong was the most important character in Zhongli’s story but one we never actually knew anything about but knowing her story and how it ended breaks my heart.
She was his wife, and bestowed wisdom upon him. He used to be a mindless, lawless brute before she got hold of him. All of his poise and grace and sagacity was her doing. That's why when she died he took her form and used the sword he made for her to carve a bloody swath through Liyue's gods and demons.

I'm glad they gave a side of Guizhong's story that was personal to one of the characters. I think I prefer this story over the one we can read about in game, it really shows how much the characters like madam ping really missed her as well as how much of an influence she was to rex lapis and cloud retainer. I hope that in some permanent story quest we can learn more about her, maybe through the perspective of Zhongli or Madam Ping herself. But either way this part of the lantern rite story is by far my most favorite.
Madame Ping and Guizhong being close friends really makes you realize why Madame Ping is such a positive person. Zhongli was corroded by time. Pain and suffering he saw and maybe even did gave him wisdom. Cloud Retainer was most likely hardy and stubborn, but she too became corroded over time, becoming more like stone, not revealing how she feels to anyone. Madame Ping always tried to see the beauty in things and loved her ways. But over time she realized everything is beautiful in its own right. Her wisdom is that she learned to cherish every moment.
It's actually implied that Morax isn't affected by Erosion, but rather is running out of "memory space" in his mind. Out of almost all the gods, he is the oldest known entity we've actually interacted with in game aside from Azhdaha, who is a Vishap.
@@Kaltsit- He might be affected by SOMETHING akin to Erosion, but as far as we know his memory of the past is perfect - and that's nearly 6,000 years worth of time, whereas Azhdaha began to erode rather quickly post Archon war
Is it correct to compare Zhongli to Raiden and Venti? These two archons have yet to feel the effects of erosion yet. Not as serious as the adepti of Liyue at least. Does this mean archons are somewhat more resistant to erosion? (Granted both are younger than Zhongli and Raiden is actively taking measures to prevent it from happening)
You can tell how much the devs care about Liyue, since it represents their nation. They give so much attention and care to the Liyue stories and characters… and I’m here for it!
Well they have left themselves the option. We now have a workable design for Cloud Retainer and Madame Ping (or Street Rambler as Cloud Retainer seems to call her) and the physical appearance they have taken are ones they chose to take. It isn't like Madame Ping is actually an old woman. It is just the form she has taken to live amongst mortals.

At last, we finally got to see Guizhong! This cutscene was so beautiful. I really adore her and her relationship with her friends. They all look so gorgeous.
The part at the end where Streetward Rambler's voice turns low and husky, to the point it almost becomes that of the old lady Madame Ping's was such a nice touch.
I'm so touched by the friendship of Guizhong and Madam Ping! A healthy competition but at the end of the day they are harmonically enjoying one's belief.

One of the best character background story in the game so far. This years' lantern rite really invoked the baby within me. Still can't believe this game is free.
As a Zhongli simp and a Guizhong stan, I am so, so happy that we have FINALLY seen Guizhong and gotten to know a little about what she was like. Getting news that this cutscene existed yesterday made my day, and I was super excited to watch it in-game. It's obvious that Guizhong was dearly beloved by all the adepti, especially Madame Ping and Zhongli. I will continue to make regular visits to her flower overlooking the harbor in her honor. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into the story of the Liyue adepti, it's one of my favorites in the whole game.
I'm curious to know where her flower resides so i can visit it too! I've just been wanting to visit where Cloud Retainer told us the story and the flowers growing in Yujing Terrace.
@@sundalosketch4769 Hey there! Sorry for the late reply! The glaze lily is close to the Guizhong Ballista. Go to the teleport waypoint just north of Mt. Tianheng, then make your way south until you reach what looks like a broken land bridge. There’s a ledge that overlooks the harbor, and growing on it is a single glaze lily. I dunno if it’s canonically related to Guizhong…but it’s placement makes it seem likely. I hope you can find it!

I like the way its always daytime when Guizhong is with them but when she dies it's like a sunset and then when they're without her and grieving its dark like night time because its like she was their sun and now she's gone they all feel like their light has been taken away and now they're in the darkness and and and then the new dawn at the end of the video and and and
During the whole lantern rite quest this year, i teared up so much during this cutscene huhu. We now witness a glimpse of Ghuizhong. I feel happy and sad coz its so heartwarming that Liyue is peaceful now. But sad aswell coz madam Ping and the other adeptus has lost alot of people dear to them to attain such peace. Just hope we see more of Ghuizhong’s story from Zhongli’s pov. Coz it looks like he was firs to arrive to Ghuizhong before she was found dead by madam Ping and Clouds retainer.

Coz on the lore of memory of dust zhongli seems to have witnessed her last moments Taken from the weapon’s description: Her final smile was a lonely one, even as her form dissolved into finest dust. “It seems that our journey together has come to an end. As for that stone dumbbell, forget about it would you?” And in cloud retainer’s narrative, it was mentioned when she and madam Ping arrive, Ghuizhong is already lifeless. Tho i might be wrong hehe.

Love love love the character designs!! The zhongli outfit looks so cool, kinda like a battle suit version of his current outfit. Cloud Retainer’s human form looks perfect for her, I love the glasses and the tall pony tail and all the crane motifs on her outfit that correlate with her birb form, and ofc Guizhong looks so pretty and I love the small details in her outfit, like how parts of it are fading into dust, just like she’s the goddess of Dust. Anyways, just wanted to mention these since I didn’t see many comments discussing the designs! Edit: I forgot to mention Streetward Rambler! I feel like it’s so unfair that Ping just gets generic grandma model when she deserves so much better!! I know it’s an empty dream, but I still hope we can get her playable without changing her age. I’d love to see new playable character models with older age!

Beloved co-ruler of Guili Plains and dear friend of the adepti, especially Cloud Retainer and Madame Ping. She is the one who sits with Rex Lapis and Cloud Retainer at the table in Cloud Retainer's abode, and who you give Matsutake Rolls to as an offering. I'm in tears right now because I am so happy Guizhong's story will finally be told and now she has an official appearance 😭💔
Finally after waiting for a long time, we finally get a Guizhong design. My heart :(( I love how Madam Ping and Guizhong are platonic soulmates, kindred spirits and bestest of friends. Reminds me of Anne and Diana! Also, I would’ve loved if next time if an opportunity arises we get a much deeper lore about Guizhong and what happened when she and Zhongli fought the “enemy” in Guili Plains. There’s so much ambiguity surrounding her death and how it affected Madam Ping, the other adepti, and even have the yakshas seal what seems to be remains of her powers after death. Mihoyo, you did a great job for this year’s lantern rite! Thank you for giving us Guizhong crumbs 😭

Well it was during the Archon war so there is a good chance she was killed by one of the other gods fighting for one of the Archon seats. I believe there was a huge flood at the time too (which one reason they moved to Liyue harbor) so it could have even been Osial (or I could be remembering that detail wrong.)
@@brynphillips9957 well, her death is being described as "black dust choked the heavens and a thousand rocks splintered", her death actually causing the flood (at least it was said so in the world quest with soraya on the guili plains). it is heavily implied that she had connections to the abyss (the stars on her desgin) and she researched khaenriahn devices. no other element other than rocks and black dust is mentioned, which i think implies that it was no foe which killed her, but something connected to the abyss

I've been eager to see Guizhong in game for forever, and SHE'S HEREEEEE!! She's so stinkin' cute, and she's the bubbly and bratty girl I always envisioned her to be, too! 😭💙💙 And, I also LOVE all the little details in her design: how her sleeves look like there's stardust inside, and the tails of her dress disintegrate into dust; how her hair clip looks like a repurposed mechanical part, like a clock hand, and how some of the details in her outfit resemble Zhongli's. 🥺💙💙 Also, the alternate design's for Cloud Retainer, Madame Ping, and Zhongli!!! THEY ALL LOOK SO. DAMN. GOOD!! 😍😍😍 Designs aside though, the illustrations and animations were absolutely stunning, and the story was so bittersweet. 🥺💙 You can tell how loved Guizhong was by everyone, and how hard her loss hit them all. 💔 I wonder if they'll ever tell her story from Zhongli's perspective, though! Besides animating their meeting and their time together, I'm REALLY curious what the yaksha were doing at the end, when she died??? Containing the destruction her death would've caused??? 🤔 How, exactly, did she even die??? Anyhow, Genshin just keeps getting better and better, and I'm really excited to see what they have in store for us next! 😆💙💙 P.S. Mihoyo, I'm begging you to PLEASE make Zhongli's old archon attire an option to wear in-game. Consider it promotion for the anime!! 😭🙏
The yaksha are definitely containing the power that she likely released upon her death, and it was a fight between gods so she was likely slain by another god.
During Zhongli’s story quest about the god of ash I think. He said when a god dies they release a lot of power. So yea they were most likely containing it. Also cloud retainer said how she died, during the Archon War the enemy overwhelmed her
Zhongli is the representation that good people suffer a lot, lost Guizhong, Azdhaha, the Yakshas, adept friends and the list only grows each time the past story is told, my homie don't have a happy day I honestly don't know how he didn't become depressed like xiao
Guizhong's demise became more painful for me knowing the bond of the Liyue gods and adepti shown in this video. This is one of the memory Zhongli pertains to.
01:44 Prior to this scene, we knew from lore that Guizhong still has her breathe while with Zhongli. They still able to give their last words before Guizhong truly dies. Zhongli might be still in shock due to Guizhong's death that when Street Rambler and Cloud Retainer arrived, he just stands there frozen, while the Guardian Yaksas are somewhat subduing an entity that could be the killer of Guizhiong?
no their subduing her power, when a god dies they just don't die like that, their powerful energy would explode and bring well destruction to humans, like the salt god
They must be holding back the energy released from her death. Kinda like with the God of Salt, remember? except the she had no one to seal her so her power went bonkers and infinite salt got yeeted out. Gods emit a burst of energy upon death, so maybe they protected the area from inevitable devastation by sealing back her power.

Hoyoverse's animation is getting better as time passes. Also I'm truly fascinated by the backstory of Adepti. This looks really great! Genshin lore is what makes me keep playing the game.

This story is full of emotion. I'm glad to be able to see more of Guizhong and the Adepti. Loved every detail and I can't help it but to feel the sadness they carry because of their lost friends
I started to tear up when she adds some finishing touches to the Guizhong Ballista like commemorating her invention while making it better not to change it but for it to last longer.. I also felt how Streetroad transformer's friendship with Guizhong is deepened with her loss.. These Genshin stories really catches me at my lonesome moments

it's so heartbreaking to see madam ping lose her soulmate and someone she loved so early on. Guizhong couldn't stay to appreciate the beauty of liyue harbour that morax along with all the adepti built together. I hope wherever she is, she is content. madam ping's and guizhong's story makes me so sad.

Liyue is still the most beautiful land in Genshin to me. I love when we get stories, quests and events that take us back there to explore those vast and eye gazing environments.
There's inconsistent about this scene and the Memory of Dust story, although it can be explained in simple way. Zhongli was there indeed. Yes he's late but he still there at Guizhong last moment. She finally give him the memory of dust along with some of her last words. At this time, Zhongli probably also summoned the 4 General Yakshas so they can seal Guizhong's archon residue (I mean, that is Yakshas job after all), while the Yakshas seal it, Cloud Retainer and Streetward Rambler arrived at the scene, only saw her lifeless body. Honestly, we need more of Zhongli and Guizhong story...
This was cloud retainer’s perspective of guizhong and rambler’s history and relationship, which was likely why rex lapis is always blank-faced. But i agree i thought this cutscene showed inconsistency of guizhong’s death from Memory of Dust’s text but in actuality just didn’t paint the whole picture. Rex lapis was probably already there when cloud retainer and mdm ping arrived.
@@silverfan9611 It's not really retconning it, it's just presenting it from a different perspective. Morax and Guizhong were clearly immensely important to each other, we know that from the Memory of Dust and the fact that they were the two founders of the Guili Assembly. Morax was the one who witnessed her final moments, all the others came too late. But this event isn't about Morax, it's about Ping. So the story we're told is presented from the angle of her friendship and mourning.

This scene actually got to me. I'm someone who is quite hardened to emotional scenes after what I've seen, but this just hit hard enough for me to start tearing up. And to think this is my first Lantern Rite, I think I'll have good memories here

And I remember from a previous teaser we saw a character with a polearm and blue hair and many theorized it was "Yelan," (which was disproven upon her release) but it turns out it was Madam ping and it makes so much sense because she taught Xiangling and Yaoyao polearm as well. I'm just so happy we finally get to see all of these characters that I was afraid we'd never get to. I especially wasn't expecting to see Cloud Retainer's human form, she's so... yes :)
I’m so glad we were wrong about Guizhong. She’s such a well rounded character and I’m glad that she turned out to be much more extroverted and strong willed than we originally thought. I loved this Lantern Rite so much

The story of guizhong and madame Ping is actually a reference to a Chinese legend: Buoya and Ziqi. In ancient China, the two were good friends. Buoya was good at playing the guzheng, and Ziqi was good at listening the sound of guzheng. When Buoya played the guzheng while thinking about mountains, Ziqi felt the majestic mountains from the sound of music; when Buoya played the guzheng thinking about flowing water, Ziqi felt the vast rivers. After Ziqi's death, Buoya never played the guzheng again, because he knew that no one could understand his music like Ziqi.
This is a sad story, and I am happy that mihoyo has integrated such an ancient Chinese legend into the game, it is really connotative
Well now it makes the adepti story even better. I love integrating parts of culture in such ways. Reminds me of how Hearts of Stone from Witcher 3 incorporated elements from the polish legend about a sorcerer noble Mister Twardowski who made a deal with a devil.

Out of them only Barbatos/Venti is alive. Then there were other Gods who allied themselves with Rex Lapis during the archon War & got killed in the war just like Guizhong.
Zhongli has the most losses among all the Archons & is also the most matured one among all the archons. Just think of the First Story quest of Zhongli. He even forgave & expressed his grief for "The overlord of the Tides" even though they were literal enemies during the Archon war.

And as of now, he only has "Barbatos", so no matter how much he may think he is annoying, as long as he is gone, there will truly be nobody to share memories with, because they have all..become a memory.

We finally got to see Guizhong`s face!!!. Madame Ping`s past is so fitting and touching, Guizhong meant soooo much to her (rival and best buddy). What I love the most is that most of the fanbase got Guizhong`s character wrong, she wasnt some delicate flower but a badass inventor. She was fierce and stubborn, but also kind and friendly. RIP Guizhong, she is missed.

I've never seen someone trying to present her as a delicate flower. She was already characterised via the description of Memories of Dust (Dust is her eponym, she was the goddess of Dust), and she actually seemed kind of brutal to Rex Lapis, who was supposed to be her dearest friend. I've always wondered, and still wonder, what happened between them to make her treat him that way. Clearly there is still love (friendly or otherwise) between them at the time of that dialogue, because she gives him an extremely meaningful gift by which to remember her, but she also ties a kind of "punishment" into it. And it clearly still bothers Zhongli, even if he doesn't share that pain with anyone, because although we often see him contemplate the puzzle box, we also see him _smash it into the ground at high velocities_ to smite his enemies (the Planet Befall "meteor" is also Guizhong's puzzle box, the same as we see orbit him in his idle animation and the same as appears as the catalyst Memories of Dust).

I cried to the part where they all saw guizhongs lifeless body it was heartbreaking to see her in that way and she was the one that made them have great times with each other.
Cloud Retainer, Madame Ping, even Zhongli they still carry the many wounds and still remember the friends that they have lost during the Archon War. Out of all the Gods in Liyue, Guizhong was the most important character in Zhongli’s story but one we never actually knew anything about but knowing her story and how it ended breaks my heart.
She was his wife, and bestowed wisdom upon him. He used to be a mindless, lawless brute before she got hold of him. All of his poise and grace and sagacity was her doing. That's why when she died he took her form and used the sword he made for her to carve a bloody swath through Liyue's gods and demons.

I'm glad they gave a side of Guizhong's story that was personal to one of the characters. I think I prefer this story over the one we can read about in game, it really shows how much the characters like madam ping really missed her as well as how much of an influence she was to rex lapis and cloud retainer. I hope that in some permanent story quest we can learn more about her, maybe through the perspective of Zhongli or Madam Ping herself. But either way this part of the lantern rite story is by far my most favorite.

Madame Ping and Guizhong being close friends really makes you realize why Madame Ping is such a positive person.
Zhongli was corroded by time. Pain and suffering he saw and maybe even did gave him wisdom.
Cloud Retainer was most likely hardy and stubborn, but she too became corroded over time, becoming more like stone, not revealing how she feels to anyone.
Madame Ping always tried to see the beauty in things and loved her ways. But over time she realized everything is beautiful in its own right. Her wisdom is that she learned to cherish every moment.
It's actually implied that Morax isn't affected by Erosion, but rather is running out of "memory space" in his mind. Out of almost all the gods, he is the oldest known entity we've actually interacted with in game aside from Azhdaha, who is a Vishap.

Is it correct to compare Zhongli to Raiden and Venti? These two archons have yet to feel the effects of erosion yet. Not as serious as the adepti of Liyue at least. Does this mean archons are somewhat more resistant to erosion?
(Granted both are younger than Zhongli and Raiden is actively taking measures to prevent it from happening)
You can tell how much the devs care about Liyue, since it represents their nation. They give so much attention and care to the Liyue stories and characters… and I’m here for it!

Imagine if Cloud Retainer, Madame Ping or the other adeptus will become playable characters in the future, that would be really awesome.
Well they have left themselves the option. We now have a workable design for Cloud Retainer and Madame Ping (or Street Rambler as Cloud Retainer seems to call her) and the physical appearance they have taken are ones they chose to take. It isn't like Madame Ping is actually an old woman. It is just the form she has taken to live amongst mortals.

As a Zhongli simp and a Guizhong stan, I am so, so happy that we have FINALLY seen Guizhong and gotten to know a little about what she was like. Getting news that this cutscene existed yesterday made my day, and I was super excited to watch it in-game. It's obvious that Guizhong was dearly beloved by all the adepti, especially Madame Ping and Zhongli. I will continue to make regular visits to her flower overlooking the harbor in her honor. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into the story of the Liyue adepti, it's one of my favorites in the whole game.
I'm curious to know where her flower resides so i can visit it too! I've just been wanting to visit where Cloud Retainer told us the story and the flowers growing in Yujing Terrace.
@@sundalosketch4769 Hey there! Sorry for the late reply! The glaze lily is close to the Guizhong Ballista. Go to the teleport waypoint just north of Mt. Tianheng, then make your way south until you reach what looks like a broken land bridge. There’s a ledge that overlooks the harbor, and growing on it is a single glaze lily. I dunno if it’s canonically related to Guizhong…but it’s placement makes it seem likely. I hope you can find it!

During the whole lantern rite quest this year, i teared up so much during this cutscene huhu.
We now witness a glimpse of Ghuizhong. I feel happy and sad coz its so heartwarming that Liyue is peaceful now. But sad aswell coz madam Ping and the other adeptus has lost alot of people dear to them to attain such peace.
Just hope we see more of Ghuizhong’s story from Zhongli’s pov. Coz it looks like he was firs to arrive to Ghuizhong before she was found dead by madam Ping and Clouds retainer.

Love love love the character designs!! The zhongli outfit looks so cool, kinda like a battle suit version of his current outfit. Cloud Retainer’s human form looks perfect for her, I love the glasses and the tall pony tail and all the crane motifs on her outfit that correlate with her birb form, and ofc Guizhong looks so pretty and I love the small details in her outfit, like how parts of it are fading into dust, just like she’s the goddess of Dust. Anyways, just wanted to mention these since I didn’t see many comments discussing the designs!
Edit: I forgot to mention Streetward Rambler! I feel like it’s so unfair that Ping just gets generic grandma model when she deserves so much better!! She is the one who sits with Rex Lapis and Cloud Retainer at the table in Cloud Retainer's abode, and who you give Matsutake Rolls to as an offering. I'm in tears right now because I am so happy Guizhong's story will finally be told and now she has an official appearance 😭💔

I love how Madam Ping and Guizhong are platonic soulmates, kindred spirits and bestest of friends. Reminds me of Anne and Diana!
Also, I would’ve loved if next time if an opportunity arises we get a much deeper lore about Guizhong and what happened when she and Zhongli fought the “enemy” in Guili Plains. There’s so much ambiguity surrounding her death and how it affected Madam Ping, the other adepti, and even have the yakshas seal what seems to be remains of her powers after death.

Well it was during the Archon war so there is a good chance she was killed by one of the other gods fighting for one of the Archon seats. I believe there was a huge flood at the time too (which one reason they moved to Liyue harbor) so it could have even been Osial (or I could be remembering that detail wrong.)
@@brynphillips9957 well, her death is being described as "black dust choked the heavens and a thousand rocks splintered", her death actually causing the flood (at least it was said so in the world quest with soraya on the guili plains). it is heavily implied that she had connections to the abyss (the stars on her desgin) and she researched khaenriahn devices. no other element other than rocks and black dust is mentioned, which i think implies that it was no foe which killed her, but something connected to the abyss

I've been eager to see Guizhong in game for forever, and SHE'S HEREEEEE!! She's so stinkin' cute, and she's the bubbly and bratty girl I always envisioned her to be, too! 😭💙💙 And, I also LOVE all the little details in her design: how her sleeves look like there's stardust inside, and the tails of her dress disintegrate into dust; how her hair clip looks like a repurposed mechanical part, like a clock hand, and how some of the details in her outfit resemble Zhongli's. 🥺💙💙 Also, the alternate design's for Cloud Retainer, Madame Ping, and Zhongli!!! THEY ALL LOOK SO. DAMN. GOOD!! 😍😍😍
Designs aside though, the illustrations and animations were absolutely stunning, and the story was so bittersweet. 🥺💙 You can tell how loved Guizhong was by everyone, and how hard her loss hit them all. 💔
I wonder if they'll ever tell her story from Zhongli's perspective, though! Besides animating their meeting and their time together, I'm REALLY curious what the yaksha were doing at the end, when she died??? Containing the destruction her death would've caused??? 🤔 How, exactly, did she even die???
Anyhow, Genshin just keeps getting better and better, and I'm really excited to see what they have in store for us next! 😆💙💙
P.S. Mihoyo, I'm begging you to PLEASE make Zhongli's old archon attire an option to wear in-game. Consider it promotion for the anime!! 😭🙏
The yaksha are definitely containing the power that she likely released upon her death, and it was a fight between gods so she was likely slain by another god.
During Zhongli’s story quest about the god of ash I think. He said when a god dies they release a lot of power. So yea they were most likely containing it. Also cloud retainer said how she died, during the Archon War the enemy overwhelmed her

Guizhong finally makes a visual appearance😭 I’ve always loved her story, this cutscene was one of my favorites in the game.
Guizhong's demise became more painful for me knowing the bond of the Liyue gods and adepti shown in this video.

01:44 Prior to this scene, we knew from lore that Guizhong still has her breathe while with Zhongli. They still able to give their last words before Guizhong truly dies.
Zhongli might be still in shock due to Guizhong's death that when Street Rambler and Cloud Retainer arrived, he just stands there frozen, while the Guardian Yaksas are somewhat subduing an entity that could be the killer of Guizhiong?
no their subduing her power, when a god dies they just don't die like that, their powerful energy would explode and bring well destruction to humans, like the salt god
They must be holding back the energy released from her death. Kinda like with the God of Salt, remember? except the she had no one to seal her so her power went bonkers and infinite salt got yeeted out. Gods emit a burst of energy upon death, so maybe they protected the area from inevitable devastation by sealing back her power.

I started to tear up when she adds some finishing touches to the Guizhong Ballista like commemorating her invention while making it better not to change it but for it to last longer..
I also felt how Streetroad transformer's friendship with Guizhong is deepened with her loss..

it's so heartbreaking to see madam ping lose her soulmate and someone she loved so early on. Guizhong couldn't stay to appreciate the beauty of liyue harbour that morax along with all the adepti built together. I hope wherever she is, she is content. madam ping's and guizhong's story makes me so sad.

There's inconsistent about this scene and the Memory of Dust story, although it can be explained in simple way.
Zhongli was there indeed. Yes he's late but he still there at Guizhong last moment. She finally give him the memory of dust along with some of her last words. At this time, Zhongli probably also summoned the 4 General Yakshas so they can seal Guizhong's archon residue (I mean, that is Yakshas job after all), while the Yakshas seal it, Cloud Retainer and Streetward Rambler arrived at the scene, only saw her lifeless body.
Honestly, we need more of Zhongli and Guizhong story...

Feel like they're retconning it to change the bestie dynamic from Zhongli+Guizhong to Ping+Guizhong
This was cloud retainer’s perspective of guizhong and rambler’s history and relationship, which was likely why rex lapis is always blank-faced. But i agree i thought this cutscene showed inconsistency of guizhong’s death from Memory of Dust’s text but in actuality just didn’t paint the whole picture. Rex lapis was probably already there when cloud retainer and mdm ping arrived.
@@silverfan9611 It's not really retconning it, it's just presenting it from a different perspective. Morax and Guizhong were clearly immensely important to each other, we know that from the Memory of Dust and the fact that they were the two founders of the Guili Assembly. Morax was the one who witnessed her final moments, all the others came too late.
But this event isn't about Morax, it's about Ping. So the story we're told is presented from the angle of her friendship and mourning.

This scene actually got to me. I'm someone who is quite hardened to emotional scenes after what I've seen, but this just hit hard enough for me to start tearing up. And to think this is my first Lantern Rite, I think I'll have good memories here

OK BUT WHY ARE THEY ALL SO PRETTY. And I remember from a previous teaser we saw a character with a polearm and blue hair and many theorized it was "Yelan," (which was disproven upon her release) but it turns out it was Madam ping and it makes so much sense because she taught Xiangling and Yaoyao polearm as well.
I'm just so happy we finally get to see all of these characters that I was afraid we'd never get to.
I especially wasn't expecting to see Cloud Retainer's human form, she's so... yes :)
Can we appreciate the consistency of their art style in liyue cut scenes. They're so good
I’m so glad we were wrong about Guizhong. She’s such a well rounded character and I’m glad that she turned out to be much more extroverted and strong willed than we originally thought. I loved this Lantern Rite so much
02:01 - 02:10 - can you feel the devastation, mourning, reminiscing and grief in that lone string (erhu, i believe)? that part has made me tear up + given me chills every time i've heard it (especially 02:08), oh my god how beautiful
