Whats ur opinion about snowdrift crabapple and sugar tyme crabapple...m having a hard time to choose a single crabapple from so many varieties..they all are wonderful

Hi Zoraida! Yes but we heard about it just this spring (2020) from a client. We've known of mycorrizal fungi benefits for years, but the brand MYKEE was new to us. We are not aware that crabapples have a relationship with mycorrizal fungi. We've heard it benefiting oaks before.
We used to grow it in the 90's. The flowers are great (very big). However the fruit of Brandywine is quite large and messy. It does not keep long, cracks and then falls to the ground in late August/early September. It was a very messy ornamental crabapple. We no longer grow/sell that variety. Thanks,
I’m pretty sure we have one in our yard. The double, hot pink flowers are gorgeous in spring, and it has some really unique fall coloring. While the fruit is somewhat large and can be a bit messy, it can be used for jams and jellies (either on it’s own or paired with naturally low pectin fruits like stawberries), or to add depth to homemade applesauce or cider when you only have sweet dessert apples.
All varieties within the genus malus are edible, although not all are necessarily palatable. Certain crabs that are more like small apples can be eaten raw, but most are too tannic (tart). Larger varieties of crabs can also be used in things like jellies and cider, but the tiny cherry-like ones should just be left for the birds.
(Geeky sidenote: since apples don’t usually come true from seed, and hybridize like crazy, it can actually be difficult to identify specific species within the genus.)

The variety "Whitney" produces edible, golf ball sized fruit. They're supposed to be a favorite with the deer, so be aware.
