We had some weird trouble with the 51 when we put rockets on board as the plane would constantly skid off to the left at like 15kts. We tried everything to help mitigate that with rudder trim and full rudder deflections, stick back, the whole 9 yards to no avail, dunno what happened there. Also, there was supposed to be an end screen but youtube said my format isn't supported because it isn't 21:9 ratio (Even though that's exactly what it is). Sorry folks!
You Guy's Should Fly The Fw-190 D-9 Or The BF-109 K4 "Kurfürst" However I Have A Feeling You'd Like the Fw-190 D-9 Better Due To Its Speed And Mobility When It Comes To Dog-Fighting High Altitude Wise.
The reason why is because they modeled in the P-51's engine torque. Because of the torque, it would turn to the side of the engine's power. You have to trim pretty heavily, especially with a plane that has an engine that strong. The reason it was worse with rockets on I'm not sure, but I'm certain that is the reason.
@@ralfidude yeah I understand it's a bug probably, not really much to do with the fact it was hard overtuned, I was just suggesting why it happened, I know there's not really a fix for it atm

I wish I could land her like that. In that other sim I have no problems at all with any plane, but when I try to smoothly set down the WWII birds in DCS they jump up 100ft if I touch down at less than 50fpm as if someone is punching the whole airframe up with great force. Only works 3 point for me, but it's harder to stay on track...
Hey mate, unsure as to whether it's modelled/implemented it in DCS properly, but historically you were never supposed to do aerobatic shit in the Mustang with a full fuel load as it fucks with the CG and can cause some fuckery (including premature death). Fantastic video as always though dude
You should hop on burning skies! plenty of prop action there, if you need a wing man i can cover your 6 if you feel like getting close and personal against 109s :D (Missile Tip 1-3) also just curious, why didn't you use the gyro sight instead of the fixed sight? makes leading shots in the mustang much easier imo, judging lead in the spitfire is a bit of an art.
Nice video! I'm curious about your throttle settings for the p51. Do you separate the rpm and manifold levers or run them together in combat? I usually run them separately, but am never sure if I'm using it correctly
Because I don't need it. That wobbly sausage of a pipper makes things harder rather than easier. I hit the guy without it and that's all I was looking for.
Yeah, I can't hit shit with the sight bobbing around all over. Decades of flying prop planes with stationary sights makes that much easier. Unfortunately I'm really untrained now, so I almost shoot as bad with stationary sight though. :(
@@ralfidude Just set the wingspan while adjusting the range constantly and the gyro will do all the aiming for you. You'll land far more bullets if you use it correctly.
Maybe that first spin out was because your rudder trim wasn't quite enough? 6 degrees of trim is what I understand is standard, you seemed to have 4, perhaps that was it?
something was up when we put a full load of rockets on. No amount of rudder and trim helped us. We tried various things but the thing kept skidding off to the left at 15kts for a couple of us.
@@ralfidude Okay, that is... something I haven't heard before. There's absolutely no logical reason why a full load of underwing rockets should cause the plane to depart to the left on takeoff. You might have run into a bug there.
that is called torque , you have to apply opposite rudder to the rotation of the prop. this isnt a jet that is symmetric thrust engines with props create torque and steers the plane in that way.
Iffy350 A lot of World War II fighters did. The US was an outlier with longer range fighters but it's worth pointing out the US fighters only reached Germany when they had drop tanks equipped. The Bf 109 was in the same boat as the Spitfire with marginally better range. But neither the Spitfire nor the 109 really needed any longer range. Especially the Spitfire starting out in the Battle of Britain. You don't need range if you're on the defense. Remember that weapons are designed with the needs of the contracting nation in mind.
Great job from ED to bring early war P51 without high octane fuel to compete against late war high performance german planes. Not to mention simplistic damage model and 50 cal lack of performance. Genius! Kills u guys got it was against arrogance and lack of skill, german plane pilot engage 1vs3 without any remorse. Dummy`s More big dcs content creators like urself needs to make these vids, WW2 era in DCS is definition of insanity.
P-51D is anything but early war. They dont appear in the ETO until mid-1944. Keep in mind the Mustang really shines when above 15k feet. Below that they are going to be often out-turned by any of their contemporaries while still being able to out-roll them, so the latter needs applied to your advantage.
@@goldenhide yes i know. The point i was trying to make is that dcs p51 should have implemented high octane fuel, why does it have for german planes? doesn`t make a lick of sense as in war germany was lacking high octane fuel and allies had surplus. Many people bought P51 because they are admirers of the plane, but its not what we expect. I totally agree that p51 shines in high altitude, but even on deck performance difference shouldn't have to be so big versus german planes, its insane, germans can run away and climb without any issue. Even 1942 Spitfire LF Mk. IX is faster then P51 in all altitudes. One thing P51 shined was speed and diving capability, well not in DCS. Not crying, just want to know what was the reason why they decided not to give P51 high octane fuel. Hence early war plane lol not to mention 50 cals and DM :D
We got bounced only once by a guy going guns on me, the other kills we got when it was the 3 of us, and I was flying still, were from spotting either incoming or far out bandits. The last kill we got in the first flight was me going towards 2 unknown contacts, ID'ing one as a Spitfire and the second as a Dora, with the bandit engaging the friendly. Yes, the state of WW2 DCS is pretty subpar right now, especially when compared to the competition, but it's still enjoyable and the planes are simulated to a further degree, with clickable cockpits and the planes feeling more realistic and therefore harder to handle. Let's not talk about the UFO handling of the Mig-3 and some Yak variants in Il-2.
Wasn't what I was pointing out. I'm quite aware that the actual performance of later D-models is lacking, just the inaccuracy that even an early "D" would be "early war." Never said anyone was wrong that the performance specs just aren't matching up. They aren't. And the damage models are indeed in need of a severe overhaul to make the WW2 birds work better. I've been at a loss as why the 109K was the first 109 modelled. Yeah it's a pretty awesome version, but hardly as iconic as say the E or G.
