Jasper Tan usually Elphaba is played by a mezzo soprano and Glinda a soprano. And believe it or not but Sierra is actually a mezzo that just has an amazing range. So technically she could play either.
I would love to play Javert as a woman... He is such a complex and interesting character and I think that gender swapping him would be a very interesting and haunting way to do it, as Sierra has proved.
It’s funny you say that because I think the total opposite of Javert. Not as a criticism; all the characters in this show are flat. Is there conflict? Sure, but no growth. Javert is a foil to Valjean, the opposite of the good guy. He’s as single minded as they come- he only cares about one thing, he’s a fanatical bigot with no complexity at all. I think that’s kind of the point. Even in his last moments he fails to reflect or learn and kills himself because he can’t stand living in a world where he’s not right. Does his bigotry cone from pain? Sure. Do we pity him? Of course. But he’s about as complex as a comic book villain. He’s as one-dimensional as they come. But again, all the characters are. There’s no time for complexity in most opera. Good is good and bad is bad.
I believe there was a high school production that cast a female!Javert, although it was futuristic/steam punk. Some people don't like the idea of role reversal but I think it adds so much more complexity! Especially with Javert, who is pretty simplistic in his beliefs. I've seen some versions explore his character by casting people of color, but it would be interesting to see a woman take on the role in a bigger production!
@@melaniemurray6539 I think that's the point of Javert though. He is the complete antithesis of Jean Valjean, who DOES go through a HUGE change in character, from bitter ex-con who can't accept a kind gesture without stealing, to prosperous town mayor, to genuinely selfless hero. His greatest asset is his capacity to change and grow, and conversely, Javert is rigid, fixed and unchanging which creates the tension between the two - "men like you can never change/men like me can never change". Then when he sees that Valjean actually HAS changed and has saved another life, he cannot accept that his lifelong view has been wrong, that people CAN change, and that causes him to kill himself - he realises he has wasted his life. But he's certainly not one-dimensional, the whole point is it's not a personal thing with him chasing Valjean, just his obsession with upholding the law. This song shows that - he DOES have a softer side to him that he never shows to anyone.
Just earlier today I was saying I wanted to hear a female sing "Stars." YAY SIERRA! I think a female Javert would be great - it would be a genderbend that wouldn't really alter the plot of the musical.
i love the way she enunciates when she sings. it’s so sweet and beautiful, always edit: and of course she went for the high note at the end. i always wonder if the javerts don’t hit it bc they can’t or bc it’s symbolic of javert’s attempts to remain constant like the stars
If there was a genderbend, who'd like to see Sierra as Javert, Anne Hathaway as Valjean and Josh Groban as a crippled Fantine? Just an idea, thumbs up if you agree!!!
I feel you Sierra, i'm a girl and i want to play Javert too... Sadly, it wouldn't make a lot of sense historically to have a woman as a police inspector and the scenes with Valjean would be... pretty awkward. Fanfiction sites would go nuts! Btw, this is my new favorite version of Stars.
I'm casted as Javert in our school's end of year (summer) production this year :p and last year in our winter production last year there was a girl playing McCavity in Cats :p wish the boys in our school are more into performing arts haha
I do like her singing this awesome Les Mis Tune, however the only person who does it for me where this song is concerned is the one, the only MR PHILIP QUAST.
russell puts only about 7 times more emotion into this song. Same issuewith quast and most trained performances of this song. Theres so much more than just pure bombastic zealotry behind these lyrics ezpecially within the context of the story but most singers just like to abuse the big finish. Now crow also had the wonders of cinematography to help convay the more subtle bits. Ex: I tbink if you just look at the lyrics within context, Javert is not moreso speaking about himself and his failures than he is about the "fugitive out in the darkness". He's asking god for forgivness. But in the way this song is normally played except for in the movie it just seems like he is totally unaware of his own failures.
Back in the Golden Age of MGM musicals, Miss Boggess would have been snapped up by the studio and millions would have had the pleasure of enjoying her beauty and voice on the big screen. Those were the days.
Me. I'm a late comment, but I feel you so much! A girl like me who 1) learns how to sing for like 2-3 months 2) is a high soprano 3) has little to no talent can never play the role I have always wanted, though hey, i kinda nail Bring Him Home.
Her performance was similar to Crowe’s in the way it was softer and less aggressive and more curious sounding but talent wise hers trumps him big time. But ofcourse Lewis is and always will be the real javert
Sierra as Javert, Will Swenson as Eponine, but I can't figure out who Ramin should be. And we would of course add Andrew Colbert in the cast because, well, why not!
les mis has a big range of opposite gender singers covering songs! ramin karimloo sings I dreamed a dream really well sierra boggess sings stars amazingly. maybe they should discount gender next time they cast les mis...
I wonder if she auditioned? If she did, they must have wanted a big star as opposed to the most stunning, talented person for the role. Hollywood is not run by rocket scientists.
Ramin as Valjean and Sierra as Javert would just be too powerful
Jesus, is there anything this girl cant sing? she's amazing!
Alena Zakharova She can't sing a bad song
She sang this at 54 below in october and it was hilarious! she was wearing norm lewis' 25th anniversary jacket!
First christine, then this, then fantine, but the million dollar question WHEN IS SHE GOING TO PLAY GLINDA IN WICKED?!
Glinda? You mean Elphaba right?
***** I think her voice is too high to play Elphie
Jasper Tan I honestly wouldn't mind hearing her take a crack at either of them.
Alex Hurley she MUST be glinda
Jasper Tan usually Elphaba is played by a mezzo soprano and Glinda a soprano. And believe it or not but Sierra is actually a mezzo that just has an amazing range. So technically she could play either.
ugh, that last note that she makes higher than usual gives me chills everytime, I can't handle it ❤️
- chloe
This gave me the awesome idea that les mis would be cool to see if the roles all got gender swapped! That would be different!
that should be the april fool's day performance!
Bethany Jefferies yeah!!!!
The male version of Fantine would be problematic
I just LOVE how she sings “and you fall as Lucifer fell”
I would love to play Javert as a woman... He is such a complex and interesting character and I think that gender swapping him would be a very interesting and haunting way to do it, as Sierra has proved.

You gave me an idea. What if there was a production that reversed all the gender roles in Les Mis? Would it work? Make sense? This song would.
Please can Sierra have a one woman show of Les Mis!!! It would be perfection =u=
Sierra: *does all the parts in One Day More*
I must see this!!! :D

"That's annoying!" HAHA I LOVE HER

Well, I want her to do it again, but after going from an F5 to a B♭5, she has to go up like the Voices of Liberty to an F6
My favourite female Broadway performer singing my favourite Le Miz song which is originally sung by my favourite Le Miz character, such an eargasm!
She would be a wonderful Cosette. Sierra is the angel of music, she can do it everything
I love her british accent
it's cute
She's American, actually. :)
Emily Moreno but she still has lovley british accent :D As Hugh Laurie in House MD. He's british but he has amazing american accent
I have watched (and listened to) every version here and this is definitely the best.
Sierra looks perfect in Javert's outfit! xD
She just my idol. love this version
I am speechless. This was absolutely stunning. Is there anything Sierra can't sing?!
That last note...
That last note! WOW!!!
I have loved her amazing, brilliant, awesome voice since the first time i heard it, it is just AMAZING.
the way she says "stars" XD love it
If there was a genderbend, who'd like to see Sierra as Javert, Anne Hathaway as Valjean and Josh Groban as a crippled Fantine? Just an idea, thumbs up if you agree!!!
How this can be possible so easily? Love you so much Sierra..
This woman can sing anything and sound amazing. Damn!
Heard her sing this at Millikin University last night. So wonderful.
No one compares to her! That was amazing. She's my Idol; truly a professional.
I just want to play enjolras but nOoOooo I had to have been born with a female range
Grace Hofer saaaaame omfg
mood
RIGHT!? Although this video proves that someone with a female range can play Enjolras effectively: ruclips.net/video/T0frLXpI9To/видео.html
wow! Sierra is my favourite stage lady and this is AWESOME to hear! Thank you! ^_^

well there's already fanfic so I don't see the problem with that
She is so amazing. Thank you for uploading!
why is there no videos of this i want this so badly -.- :(
I think it would be awesome to see Les Mis played by only female actors or all male parts played by women and v.v. It could be a new hit. :)
Wensela Âû yessss i would be val jean
Wensela Âû
Imagine "A Little Fall of Rain." That would be a unique twist.
Oh my God, why is this woman so perfect?
She wants to play Erik too in POTO.
I actually cried at the end, she is incredible
she always gets the prettiest wigs ;)
I do like her singing this awesome Les Mis Tune, however the only person who does it for me where this song is concerned is the one, the only MR PHILIP QUAST.
Oblong Receptionist ^^^
I typoed his name to Phopip Wuast and that’s how me and my friends been referring to him ever since
better than Russell Crowe

Russel crowe did an amazing job
Absolutely! 😂
@@dankhnw8 not compared to Sierra or abyone who's played javert he didn't
Absolutely incredible. Can't think of anything else to say.
Even for a song that's supposed to be a lighthearted parody, this sounded very pretty. :D Awesome job, Sierra!
she is just amazing
Sierra is awesome! She should totally play Javert, haha. Thank you so, so much for uploading this! :D

ahh thank you for uploading! you're the best!
Sierra Boggess is a stunning talent on Earth.
She is ridiculously perfect.
If the most recent trend on Broadway is rapping then the next one needs to be gender-bending popular characters
why must she be so perfect?
She did it amazingly.
It would be awesome to have Sierra as Javert, though they'd need to change lyrics in the confrontation (and probably other songs too...)
love it!
she's so funny omg i love her
Wonderful, thank you so much!
Petition starting now to make Sierra the first female Javert, and star opposite Ramin as Valjean.
Amazing
Gosh I love her

We need to have a version of les mis with just the holy trinity.
I never thought javert could be a girl role also
Isn’t there a song that Sierra can’t sing? Her voice is gorgeous ✨
A little too much vibrato but still amazing!
Agreed
I know Philip Quast is the only Javert, but this is extraordinary too...
She begins in E, and then moves to Bb!
I'm 13 and I wanna be an actress my inspiration would this lovely and talented lady, luv u Sierra.
This is by far my favorite version of this song. Throw every other Javert in history out the window, because Sierra beats them all.
Holy...
sierra sounds like she's fallen in love with a vagabond
Oh she's so funny! I wish I could find the video too
YESSSSSSS!
Not to be that person but she should have gotten the role instead of Russell Crowe
I didnt know lea salonga sang empty chairs at empty tables, is it any good?
I wonder if she auditioned? If she did, they must have wanted a big star as opposed to the most stunning, talented person for the role. Hollywood is not run by rocket scientists.

1800's France. xD But I agree. Sierra is the best! I love her!
When is a genderbend les mis happening already ? 😂

Javert is my dream role too haha
