- Hello everyone. I know this is very different from my usual content, but this is a project I started working on a few months ago, then forgot about, then began working on again, and now, being Christmas, I wished to give you a something of a gift from me so I decided to finish it and well, here we are.
This video is a hextet of the song Stars from my favorite musical, Les Misérables, performed by six talented performers who have played the part of Javert, Philip Quast, Jeremy Secomb, Norm Lewis, Earl Carpenter, Michael Ball, and Bradley Jaden.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all. Thank you so much for supporting the content I make, and enjoy.
Everyone has their favorite Javert. To me, it's Quast. His voice and take on Javert is honestly my favorite.
Hundred percent agree
Me too! He can bring me to tears just by looking at me!
100 agree! He was also awesome as Dr Craven in The Secret Garden. 😍
Philip Quast IS Javert! Forever and ever, in ETERNITY! Amen. ❤
Great Aussie singer and actor!
@@LesleyBeswick : He’s just wonderful! Seen him in so many productions but didn’t discover him until he had almost retired! But you can find everything on line!
Nobody touches Quast’s performance
maybe, but Norm Lewis is a kinda close...and Carpenter iis prety good too...but Michael Ball is just not cut out for this one (if the point is to be having Ball and Boe on one stage, I would argue that it should be the other way around with Alfie Boe actually playing Javert), still a terrific singer
@lubormrazek5545 have to agree re Michael Ball. He just isn't Javert to me!
@@sarahwoolley79 just too much backpacing
@@lubormrazek5545 I'm not sure what it is. He was Marius when I started getting interested in musical theatre and will forever stay as Marius (I know many actors have played multiple roles but Ball I feel just doesn't have the characterisation of Javert)
@@sarahwoolley79 he just doesn't have the stone cold exactly on beat delivery that a javert should have
For me Quast is Javert and always will be ….he still brings me to tears his voice and acting is unrivalled
I agree, he has a most powerful voice
Everything about the 10th anniversary concert is the best
Totally agree.
Quast is so phenomenal in his performance of Javert, it's unmatched
It is ludicrous to put Quast in this line up.
All are great but Quast is simply out on his own in a different hemisphere
Omg
I keep watching versions of Les Mis- the best musical theatre ever
And the very best of the best production has to be Philip Quast
All great , but Phillip Quast can’t be beaten on this song and character. In my view .
Agreed...but would have like.a little.more of. Michael❤
Norm Lewis is my favourite Javert - his Confrontation with Alfie Boe is absolutely spine chillingly good. I never really GOT Javert until I heard him sing the role.
I’ve never understood why the confrontation was cut from the schools edition. It is pivotal as it explains exactly why Javert is the way he is.
Finally, a sequel to 17 Jean Valjeans Sing Do You Hear The People Sing
Philip Quast by far the best.
The editing is so seamless it sounds like they all are on stage singing their respective parts without the orchestra faltering as is to be expected with these edits.
Quart is also my favorite. Voice, eyes, feelings and he never lets go.
Les Miserables is for me the greatest Musical and always will be ❤
The Miserables Multiverse.
Les Multiverse de Miserables
@@cameronhodgetts920 Lol, my French is a bit rusty but I think Le Multiverse des Miserables works better.
Yes, I love it
which one fumbled olivia pope
First, 17 Valjeans singing "Do You Hear The People Sing" and now this😂
Wilkinson and Quast. The originals and the best.
I’ve never listened to or watched Les Mis before, but I finally listened to the entire 10th anniversary concert yesterday, and I’m obsessed. And now, I am discovering that I also first listened to these songs in their best version, as well! It seems Colm and Quast are unquestionably the best performers of their respective songs.
Many of these men are great vocalists, but I’m not hearing any of them bring as much emotion and agony to Stars or Bring Him Home as Colm and Quast do.
Quast as Javert is one of those performances that helped shape my love for musical theatre. Norm Lewis did a phenomenal job as well (I got to attend the 25th anniversary irl). Those two are my favorite. 1st Philip Quast. 2nd Norm Lewis.
1. First of all, great editing!
2. They are all great
3. But including Quast isn't fair to the rest. He can never be beat. He is simply perfect for that role.
quast has to be my favorite javert, hes just so great :)
The best Javerts understand that Javert isnt there to make a fancy flourish with his song... the song is to convince you of his consistent passionate pursuit of his goal. Relentless, determined, and as inevitable as the stars.
Quast head and shoulders above these wonderful examples of Javert.
like many here, i grew up with quast and he will always be the definitive javert, but norm is a very very close second
QUAST!!! NO NEED TO THINK ABOUT IT!
I grew up with Quast so he’s my faaaaavorite.
I saw Jeremy Secomb as Javert in the West End, his performance of Stars was just simply amazing, the memory will stay with me forever.
He was amazing.
Lewis is my favorite, his voice is so soothing
Brilliant choices, fabulous editing , great work brining the amazing performers together as if they were one. Fantastic, thankyou.
I’m home alone. No one can stop me from blasting this on repeat for the next hour. Why, oh why, does RUclips not have a “repeat video” function?
RUclips does have a loop function, go into the video settings, click additional settings, and click loop video.
@@Thomas_H._Smith And now I’ve learned something new! Thank you!
It's amazing how rich the final note became when lewis and quast appeared
I wasn't looking at the video just listening and could not tell when it changed from Philip Quast to Jeremy Secomb. Those two are top tier and hands down the best Javerts.
If you could not tell, that says something about you, not their voices.
Quest will forever and always be my favorite; it’s a testament to how good they all are that Lewis is only my third favorite; I have conflicted feelings about Ball because how can my Marius also be my Javert? So this is the best of…every world!
Quast is superb but my favourite is Michael Ball. Bradley Jaeden did an amazing job too
we should start a petition to get Bryn Terfel to play Javert, that would be just perfect
Javert is my favorite character in all of literature and I can - and have - spoken for over an hour at a time about him and (despite my enduring and obsessive love of the musical since age six) how every adaptation takes so much away from his character. I understand - my first copy of the brick was exactly 1234 pages long. So much needs to get cut (abridgments cut all three of my favorite chapters) for even the miniseries. But he is the most human of them all, to me. I love Jean Valjean. I love Javert. And I will until I die.
Wow….when they hit the last note, tears came to my eyes. So emotional.
✨✨✨by the Stars...It starts with the *best💝* and it ends with the *best💝* --- at least for me and what made me fall in love with a voice. But also for the immensely large number of musical lovers and vocal coaches who have heard, seen and professionally evaluated the various *Stars* interpreters and also found the same quality. Everyone in this video is a wonderful performer and undoubtedly a master of their craft, but I am more than 💯.% a 💝 Philip Quast 💝 admirer with all my senses. But everyone! who sings in this "league" can only be fantastic. Therefore, this video is really wonderful for clearly recognizing the differences between the individual interpretations. I'm lucky (but sometimes it's also -unlucky-🔈🔉🔊 📍🎈😭🤢🤮 🔇😴) to have very sensitive ears. That means that when I can sometimes hear small differences, someone else hasn't noticed them and still can't hear them afterwards. Now, as is often the case, one could immortalize the individual, personal advantages but also the ***avoidable mistakes*** of each individual here. But if you're not really a master of music (I don't count myself among the masters, definitely not), you can usually only use this personal feeling to create a ranking. I'm not going to create this "ranking and the why" now, I'm just an incredibly enchanted 💝 Philip Quast - Javert fan 💝, because I love his voice, his beautiful open and "round" voice, the interaction and also the minimal but all the more effective acting in this concert version - 10th Anniversary, 8th October 1995 "Dreamcast by Cameron Mackintosh" - For me this interpretation is the most beautiful. The voices, the extra details. I can now recite the entire musical by heart and here, if you listen carefully just before the end, "Javert" is the antagonist and not a well-known Brit, but he received an incredible round of applause and only briefly thanked everyone with gestures before immediately "disappearing" again. In many interviews it is emphasized again and again how modest and incredibly friendly he is to fans he meets. 🥴 oh dear, and again it turned into a whole 'novel'. Please excuse it, but when you are really passionate about something, you can quickly get lost in it and again I apologize for my bad English, I live in Germany. Many greetings to everyone out there and respect and thank you for sticking with it until here. ✨✨✨
Alternative titles: Javert actors get to sing with their hero (Philip Quast (yes even the ones who had the role before him))
Who is your favorite Javert and why is it Quast
Philip Quast resides in a universe that no one dare to venture.
Quast!
They’re all incredible but I really like the one at 1:41 (besides Quast and Lewis). That harmony at 2:36 is just *chef’s kiss*
Stars singing “Stars”! Perfect compilation! ❤
Quast--that is it! Finito!
absolutely beautiful. quast will always be my fav
The answer is of course Phillip Quast 😂
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This works. This made me happy.
Great job with this! The transitions are seamless and lovely. Such a great song and amazing musical.
I love Philip Quast first
Than i saw Jemery Secombe in London - i absolutely loved it as he was new to the role and i wasn't expecting the amazing performance live ... Wow
I seen others ... and im.so happy to see him here on the greatest Javerts :)
There’s something so raw about this song. And how it sounds so different live. So good
Quast is still King in my personal opinion but Secomb is as about as close to the perfection that Quast embodied. You can see the influence. My god they are incredible performers! Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of Michael Ball in this role though. I adore him as a performer, but this is just not his character.
Bravo👏👏👏👏
Outstanding!!!
Quast the best!
Class all class - power stunning
Mr Carpenter with his pure baritone interprets Stars like no one else I have heard. In his very own very special way. Thank you 🙏🙏🎼🎵🎶🎶🎵
Fabulous. Our favourite song from Les Mis
Totally amazing, thankyou for sharing.
The best video, ever.
The editing is incredible ✨
Always Quast
Michael Ball is my very favorite!!!!
I prefare Philip Quast
What a stunning mix! Simply awesome! Well, well done!
Why am I crying
Philip Quast team like this.
Quast/Jaden for me
Wow ..just WOW
I'd love to see a Valjean version of this haha! Loved the video
I wouldn't say that's off the table, but the reason I opted to make this video about Stars instead of a of Valjean song like Bring Him Home is because that kind of already exists, we have Bring Him Home sung as quartet and a quintet at the end of the 25th Anniversary Concert and the Staged Concert, so I would basically just be recreating what they already did. Who knows, maybe someday, though.
Well that was just friggin cool!!
Of the ones you have, Philip Quast and Norm Lewis are the best. But my favorite will always be Terrance Mann, the original, whom I saw on Broadway. Why is there no video as him as Javert?
I would have loved to include Terrance Mann if I could, but unfortunately, there is just no high-quality video from his stint as Javert singing Stars.
This is absolutely amazing
Marvelous editing work! Thank you for this video!
One of my all time favorites. Thank you for putting this together!
Tam Mutu was an incredible Javert. Easily should have been on this list!
Made me cry........
This was brilliant! Couldn’t have picked a better set of Javerts either!
That was truly wonderful! The end made me cry. That edit was perfect. Thank you.
Norm Lewis- for me there’s no contest.
Just Beautiful...Voices so outstanding........................
This song and video is pure Heaven!
We need to add Jordan Donica, who is playing this role right now! What a great singer! What great singers here! What a great song!
Great bit of editing
This was incredible.
Great editing!

this was so epic to watch i love it ❤❤❤❤
This was epic!
Amazing!!!!!!
'Kin brilliant!!!
Roger Allam will still always be Javert to me, just a shame there are no video recordings of his Stars
This mashup is rad, thank you!
I love this musical❤
beautifully produced!
sensacional
That was great -- thanks so much.
Very nice! I appreciate the effort!
When Quast sang paradise he sounded like Secomb
Oh my god!!!
