1 1/2 minutes of the most remarkable child acting talent I ever saw! Virginia Weidler was truly amazing.

So many levels of comedy going on in this scene. They don't make them like this anymore.

      Ummm...
Anyway, I also recommend Bringing Up Baby. It's silly fun, and Cary Grant was such a great physical comedian. I think people forget that.
Turner Classics used to always have wonderful films, but since Robert Osbourne died, it's just not the same. They do still show the occasional gem though.

This is my favorite thing in the original version. Being a total Marx Brothers freak seeing an 11 or 12 year old girl playing the piano and singing “Lydia The Tatooed Lady” is such a gift.

Oh no, never call TPS "The Original One"! It's the only one.
High Society was a decent effort, but I'll never understand making a perfect film again. I think it was Jon Waters who said " Stop remaking great movies! Remake the bad ones, but make them better!".

The Philadelphia Story is one of the pinnacles of 30s screwball comedies. You won't regret it!
Actually, try to do a marathon of the whole genre. It's a revelation. The dialogue is sparkling. It's really difficult to get dialogue like that in movies anymore.

It should be available streaming somewhere. The Philadelphia Story, 1940.
Most of the movie isn't this kind of silly funny, but it's so well written, the cast is perfection... Kate wanted Spencer Tracy to play Mike. Maybe, but I'm glad Jimmy Stewart was cast.

I feel sorry for High Society. If it had been its own thing, it would have been received better. Grace Kelly *finally* got to be funny, which she was in her real life. And she & Bing won a Gold Record for "True Love".
I do think it's worth watching, if only for Louie Armstrong.
But I will never understand casting Bing Crosby as Grace's husband. Twice! The County Girl & High Society.
