Originally from the L.A. area, Rich has been playing professionally and teaching guitar for over thirty years. His education includes years of college and private instruction with a variety of teachers, including Mitch Holder, Ted Greene, Joe Pass, and Charlie Shoemake, to name a few. He feels education is a continuing process. There's always more to learn. Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Howard Roberts, Ted Greene, and Larry Carleton have all influenced his playing.
Rich wrote three books for a major publisher, Dale Zdenek/ Belwin Mills/Columbia, providing him the opportunity to work with other great artists/authors like Tommy Tedesco, Joe Diorio, and Ted Greene. After teaching at GIT/Musicians Institute, in Hollywood, CA, for three years, he developed and published his own home study guitar school-type curriculum available on his website www.GuitarCollegeLibrary.com which has helped over ten thousand students improve their playing.
Rich has won honorable mentions and awards in songwriting and served as president of the Ventura County Producers and Songwriters Guild. Touring for three years with "Dick Clark's Good Old Rock and Roll Show," he had the opportunity to perform with Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Little Anthony, and many other great, old-time rock and rollers.
After moving his family to the Yosemite/Fresno area, he taught guitar and directed the jazz band at Fresno Pacific University for two years. Being a well-rounded player, Rich is comfortable playing a variety of styles, including jazz (his favorite), blues, rock, fusion, country, and solo fingerstyle. He performs at local venues in a number of different scenarios, as a solo guitarist, with his jazz trio or quartet or smooth jazz quintet. At home in his studio, he is continually producing new lessons for RUclips and www.GuitarCollegeLibrary.com.
The years of experience and knowledge he can share with you will
help you be the player you always dreamed you'd be.

It doesn't have a USB, it is a transistor based analog amp which just replaces tubes by FET circuitry (transistors). You can use the XLR output connected to your audio interface instead. So it is the same principle than classics but more modern and capable. Although it tries to please people by offering different colors and dynamics (6 amp "models") it's got its own sound. Which is very good! It can do crazy things if you are curious enough to explore and use to its full potential.
It can play from Jazz to Rock (and a bit more) and then get into Metal territory (modern Metal and actual Metal) with a little help.
I always cringe at the sight of people trying to equate this kind of amplifier to a digital one. It is not just tube OR digital. Beautiful sounding transistor pedals exist almost since the down of guitar. Even more cringe worthy, the sight of people trying to match the exact sound of a random amplifier and then saying another one is not worth it because it's not the same. What a self-defeating exercise.
I got a Match 3 months ago and I'm looking forward to get another one. It has a lot of personality and charm when you get to actually experience its magic. At first it feels a bit clinical but it is kind of what Celestion Copperback speakers do: they are too powerful (250W) and need some volume and usage to get going. Think of a neodimium version of an EV classical speaker. Hence the light weight and the punch.
*Edit:* The amp has a "Distortion Boost" control that should be called "Grit" instead (what a missed marketing opportunity!). It doesn't act as an actual boost pedal in front of the pre-amp in my experience. It just gives you more distortion and a bit of extra liveliness. So the real benefit comes when you get to use a DECENT boost pedal (even for cleans). It benefits immensely from that and becomes a roaring beast capable of beating well above its own weight.

I love my mach 3, use it for pedal steel and guitar (sometimes even keyboards!)
I love the Vox settings, has that fender sparkle with Marshall "ommpphh"

Unfortunately, when they went from the mark two to the mark three, they took the microphone out of it. And it is missing the tone button and it is missing the length of reverb that the mark II had. Thank heavens, I bought my mark II while they still made them. So if you are a singer and want to sing through it also, you’d better try to find a used Mark 2. They are the cats meow.

Quilters are definitely great sounding amps for jazz. I’m sure this one will go quickly. The late Chuck Loeb turned me on to the BluesCube Artist, and it turned out to be a great tube-like sounding amp. You really get that organic feel from it. Power control is another neat feature. In addition, I have the Yamaha THR10C, which is an excellent tube-like sounding practice amp, also giving that organic feel. Both are great for jazz.

The Mach 3 can do most genres I know, not just variate classic jazz voices (Rich just began to scratch the surface). Do remember it is a genuine two channel amplifier, so you can create your own "boutique" sounds by combining the sound, feel and response of 6 voices per channel (36 possible combinations) plus active controls which really affect the character of the voices.
I was all about getting a Blues Cube. It is a great amp, but I am glad that I got the one for me in terms of versatility and customization. After giving it much thought I was about to hit the checkout button when I did a last search and found out about Quilter amps.

If the Quilter sounds anywhere "Tube like" compared to the THR..because I just didn't appreciate it's tone at all..boxy, digital.. Hope the Quilter IS really much better than the Yamaha

I have a tone block 202 and it’s the best amp I own, all things considered. I’m a tube snob but the Quilter has its own vibe and I haven’t played my tube amps in almost two years now.

Quilter makes great sounding amps. I am looking into getting an Aviator Cub in a couple of months.
I wrote Henriksen and suggested they offer a 1X15 model to replace the late, great Polytone Mini Brute IV but nothing ever came of it.

I just ordered an Aviator Cub specifically because I was wrecking my arm carrying around a Polytone Custom 101

You can just buy the cab and roll with whichever Quilter amp you want to connect to it, including their block options.

I find the Cub to be a versatile and capable amp . And the 50 watts is more than enough. If the venue is huge then the Cub has an excellent line out. Not dissing the 3 , I just don’t need all those different amp variations or the power.

Have you tried the headphone out? Wondering how functional it is for late night play.

    • @AbeldeBetancourt
      @AbeldeBetancourt Год назад +1

It is designed exactly with that purpose in mind. It may be a 200W beast but it can modulate volume quite well. I play mine from Senheiser HD25 monitoring headphones most of the time. It has two positions in the back: warm (normal), bright and off for cabin simulation. I began to prefer bright because it matches better the speaker output. Celestion Copperback speakers are like modern EVs; very present and transparent. You just set to 0% the speaker output and crank however you like the headphone one. Voila!

you can and they are sold individually as well. but separately the total is more expensive. I'd get the combo and when needed take speaker out to a 212 or 412.

Even if it's more "practical" to have the controls on the top, I admit I liked the look of the Mach 2 better .... this and the fact they were still USA made !!! The price is higher than the Mach 2 and it's made in China .... I admit it's a big MINUS for me ... unless Quilter show us clips and pics of the Chinese factory where they are built. What is the point of getting one of those amp rather than a Roland Blues Cube now ? yes, they have more features, they sound better (because they are newer than the Blues Cube), but they are more expensive and the tag "Made in China" does not make feel like the amp will be more reliable than a Blues Cube ....

What you referred to as "Top" is a Vox AC amp.
The other British amp (2 back) is a Marshall amp. The first three are Fenders (the number refers to their year). The "Sweet" amp would be great for Jazz, as it has a warm late-sounding distortion and cleans up nicely.

I believe sweet is like a dumble amp,
I use it when I want some David lindley overdrive (rip, he died last night 3/4/23)

@@danielstein5290 I didn't know. That's sad to hear. At 71, I've lost so many acquaintances, you'd think I'd be used to it by now. But, I never get used to the loss of an accomplished artist from my past!
      Thanks for the "head's up".
(PS: I agree with you on the sound of a good Dumble!)
