"Ahm Rhunning this at half speeed."
And I am running it at 2x speed, balance restored.
i could liturly sit there all day and watch and lissen to this ...poetry in motion
Everytime i watch one of your videos, i learn something. I like that! Thanks!
The combination of the wonderful machinery plus your narration is so spot on. A real delight for machinery enthusiasts. Thank you!
Brilliant. Its amazing how fast it gets its steam up.
Thanks for all your hard work Keith and providng us with some great video's :)
Wish you a early merry christmas and thanks again for uploading some very enjoyable and interesting vids.
Great work Keith as always
Very nice, thanks for sharing.
Dan
Hmm I had the same problems with my old belt sander and I converted it to take v belts , great video Keith !!
I always go shopping for myself because that is the only way to get what I want.
I shall look forward to seeing the mounting for the burner.
Great job Keith. I really like the polished copper against the painted black sides. I think it needs a whistle but I think you said you were going to add one when you do the full steam plant. I am looking forward to the next series.
Very much enjoy your video,s Wonderful workman ship.
Thanks Keith
Dave
Yea thanks Keith i love your dry wit.
I recently added a ceramic burner to my 504 that I've had for 48 years. I mounted it into a sheet metal channel with wing sections on booth side to defect the burner heat up and provide a heat shield to protect the paint on the side sheets. works well. Your plant is going to be very nice indeed! I wish I had a Blackgate close by!
That's just what I am going to do when I assemble the boiler into a steam plant.
great paint job when you opened the steam valve i believe charlott walked up behind you .any how that boiler has turned out awsome
Excellent set of video Keith. Very informative indeed.
What paint do you use for the end and side plates and chimney please?
Good to know about not touching the new paint work. Noted with thanks!
Steam injectors can have their own personality. Had the opportunity to operate some full size traction engines.
Can you exhaust a safety valve up through the stack?
I thought a drain cock is closed when the handle is pointing down, so it does not open under vibration. Certainly applies to car radiators ( old Landrover)
It's the other way round on these .....
if only one could get a model to run that slow at 2:23 that smooth. would have to big a large model im guessing
I was going to ask about nipping up the plugs that were leaking while it was in steam. Does that make them harder to remove when cold? Thank you for letting me in the workshop again. I really do like to see these beauties work.
No, the only problem is the slight risk of shearing off the fitting when the boiler is in steam .....
Hello
I own a similar boiler like this, you mention different gas mixtures like propane/butane and butane, what is the difference between these when using these to heat the boiler with?
Which is best to use a truly alcohol burner or gas burner? My experience is leakage from the alcohol burner and the propane/butane can be dangerous in poorly ventilated space.
This is a first steam plant I build and my experience is small.
I like your way of explaining and your humor, do not mind negative comments, keep working your way.
Micke T from Sweden.
Propane is at a higher pressure than Butane, alcohol burners are generally not controllable in the way gas is.Tthat's all I can say really - please watch a few more of my videos as I frequently explain things like this.
Could you make a scale Titanic engine? That would be amazing!!
Yes it would if my life span was long enough to complete it .....
can he make one scale 1:1, but might need a bigger bath to test it in
is the black paint some high temperature paint or does regular paint normalise itself?
Please watch the previous videos . . . it is "Halfords" Satin Black Spray Paint . . . . it will be fine after baking on ....
i did see them, i guess im just surprised it stands up to the heat, but it does!
I have a 504 boiler that I wish to convert to gas fired. What jet size did you use for the Bix burner?
I think it's a number 10
Many thanks, Dave
Hey Keith, i'm probably being rather dumb but does the heat from the burner not weaken CA glue's bonding properties, or does it being in the thermal insulation help reduce this effect to the point where it doesn't matter? I assume since you use it, and you've made these before there's no issue, but I was just curious.
I thought I covered the explanation about that in this video .......
Ah jeez, I'm a dumbass, guess I wasn't paying enough attention when you said it (I swear I watched the entire video before posting that comment!) Sorry!
Are 504 boilers still available? I see an HB4, but the price is prohibitive. I'd even like to build a boiler.
Stuart Models are making some I think, but they will no doubt be very expensive. Older 504 boilers often come up on Ebay.
we hope they don't tell you to go see your doctor for that dribbling?
it's not that sort of dribbling ..... {:-)))
