  • The third mission of the US campaign!
    Mods wise, its the usual Black Sea mix of Kieme's mods for the textures, Waclaw's HQS Sound Mod and Veins effects.
    Combat Mission is a game developed by Battlefront.com. One of the most realistic tactical simulations ever made, Combat Mission covers a wide variety of military settings, from World War 2 (Normandy, Market Garden, Sicily, Italy and the Eastern Front) to fictional modern conflicts in Syria (Shock Force) and Ukraine (Black Sea).
    You can find out more about Combat Mission by visiting www.battlefront... and especially the forums.
    Conceived and written before the real conflict began in 2014, Combat Mission: Black Sea is a military simulation depicting a fictional 2017 conflict between NATO and Russia in Ukraine. Command American, Ukrainian, or Russian ground forces in the increasingly sophisticated and deadly environment that is modern combined arms warfare.

    Hey bro. I genuinely love how you did the commentary and format for turning a long mission like this into a video. Great work bro!

    Just finished this mission myself and have come to see how you did!
    I'm glad I wasn't the only one at a loss for what to do with my forces. I was a bit passive at first, but decided to push in on the enemy's Recon positions, taking them over as my own. From those positions I ended up with pretty solid control of about half of the map. The highlight of this one, besides all of the ordinance being dropped, was sneaking a sniper team into one of the 3 story buildings near the exit that the Russians were heading to, where they ended up killing a good number of HQ units and survivors from T-90 and BMP wrecks
    I don't know about you, but this battle took me a LOT of time to complete. I spent 3 nights to get through it, playing about 3-4 hours each night. I know this was a few years ago, but do you recall putting a lot of time into this one too? I really need to cut down on wasted time when playing this.
    This one was really stressful for me, but I also really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to trying it again in the future when I forget the details and get better with the game - maybe I'll have the balls to put up a video of it!
    See ya in the next video once I finish it!

      Very nice! The next one is good fun ;)
      IIRC this one was a tense one, but I spent most of it watching the off-map support do it's thing whilst hiding in the corner, so it didn't really take that long.

    Have been looking forward to this one! You got a lot of kills there, would be interesting to see how you commanded the off map assets in a little more detail.

      Except for the precision arty, everything was plastered over chokepoints. Some of the later arty was focused on the roads and anything that looked stationary. All of it was called in via drone observation, which thankfully got farmed out from the drone operator to the JTAC, Air Controller and other FOs.

    Have you seen Krause's playthrough of the same mission? For slightly higher casualties he racked up almost 100 enemy vehicle kills.

    • @usuallyhapless9481
      @usuallyhapless9481  7 лет назад +3

      I've seen it yeah. Krause seems to be the only person I can find who has uploaded the whole campaign. Really interesting to see how he's done it after I've had a crack myself.

    I'm not sure you really needed to keep all your reconnaissance forces on that hill in one position after you had cleared it. Seems like you only needed one or two guys with binocs at that point.

    I'v played CM: FI for years but now I want to get a CM game that covers modern warfare. Would you recommend Black Sea over SF2?

    • @usuallyhapless9481
      @usuallyhapless9481  5 лет назад +5

      Although they scratch different itches, I would probably recommend SF2 before Black Sea.
      CMSF2 has more content, is less one sided and has some very interesting blue-on-blue potential. CMBS represents a more modern conflict, has the US fighting the Russians and has a lot less sand.

    Quick question... are those drone view part of the game or some cinematic you made for the video ?
    Ps: thank you for the great videos. It is helping a lot. 😃

    Do you play in real time or turn mode?

    • @usuallyhapless9481
      @usuallyhapless9481  5 лет назад +1

      I play it turn-based. Personally I find the real-time mode far too much to micro-manage- you can pause, but there's no rewind so you pretty much have to stay zoomed out to keep an eye on everything and then you lose out on the little details and getting down to ground level to see what muppetry your pixeltruppen have committed. Real time is good for small scale games and when you want to play through at speed, but IMO WeGo is better for everything else.

    Ouch.
    I was kinda hoping to see a video along the lines of the first one in this series, but hey, I get that not every mission lends itself to that format. I'm also interested in the AAR for this one. Seems like a lot you could analyze here, more than in this video.

    • @usuallyhapless9481
      @usuallyhapless9481  7 лет назад

      I know what you mean. It pretty much comes down to what decisions I have to make- in the first mission there were lots of them, in this mission it was more like "Now I'm going to bomb over there".

    Playing against the AI is a completely different experience from H2H. In this scen, the Human player knows what's going on and and can work to crush Blue Force and its observers. Against the AI, the scen becomes merely a training scenario to teach mechanics of CMSF2. Against the AI, rate one's victories 2 or 3 levels lower than the game gives them, so a major victory would become a draw. Just my thoiughts. Great to see CMSF2 on YT, so thanks heaps for that.
