You make a slow tactical-game tell a real story and are consistently entertaining and informative even in these older videos. They're all so memorizing to watch.
Your judgement call to sacrifice a couple of objectives but incur fewer casualties was validated by a Total Victory. When I played this campaign scenario I achieved all objectives, but incurred more losses. I earned the same Total Victory as you did, but I really missed those troops in the ensuing campaign engagements.
This is great! Well played and very well edited and narrated. I played/stumbled through this campaign last year so will be interesting to see your perspective on it. The campaign is really good as well, mission 3 is a bit of a beast if I remember right so looking forward to the next video.
Great job. Assaulting strongpoints (be they prepared positions or nightmarish apartment blocks) is always, always the hardest thing in the game. BMP-3 vs infantry is a real mood in CMBS. It's a good job they explode so satisfyingly. Makes one feel better.
@@kevlarburrito6693 Yes, there are after-action videos made after each mission. Check them out. You'll see why some decisions were made and what could have been done in hindsight.
Why your Javelin missed is, funnily enough, staring you in the face in the very next clip. That tall green 'christmas tree' device sticking out from the top of the BMP is an IR Electronic Countermeasure device that (as you so ingeniously assumed) interferes with ATGM's guidance systems to cause a miss. You can see that same device mounted on some T-72's in Syria at the moment.
@@CarHubTalk I concur. That device is called a Shtora, and from CMBS manual (apologies if this is bad form to copy from the manual): *Shtora-1 is an electro-optical jammer currently modeled (on) the T-90A, T-90AM, and BMP-3M. Most Shtora-1 installations use two electro-optical/IR dazzlers mounted on either side of the turret, laser warning receivers, twelve aerosol smoke grenade dischargers, and a control system to operate it. The T-90AM uses Shtora-1 but without the dazzlers. When the electro-optical/IR dazzlers are activated (they can operate continuously), they interfere with or jam SACLOS guidance systems used by many ATGM systems. When the laser warning receivers detect that the vehicle has been "painted" by an enemy weapon laser range finder, the Shtora-1 system detects the direction of the threat with an accuracy of about 4 degrees, warns the crew, and prompts them to automatically slew the turret towards the threat. Next, the system launches the smoke grenades towards the threat to interfere with ATGM guidance, giving the vehicle cover for retreat* The Javelin is not susceptible to IR dazzlers. The only function of Shtora that could hinder the Javelin (and is only on the newer Shtoras) would be automatic thermal smoke dispensers - similar to what American armor does when receiving laser warnings. But in this case we see that the BMP doesn't launch any smoke. So, I believe it's safe to say that this was a malfunction with the Javelin. Interesting fact: modern T-90's are using these interesting protective "roofs" over their turrets to try and stop Javelins (along with a large amount of propaganda that Javelins are useless against them, which many 'journalists' are peddling online).
Interesting to see the remaining Russian forces at the end of the map. If you had been a bit more aggressive, you'd have probably ended up fighting them. Do you think you'd have had the strength to to that, especially with the missing Bradley? Looking forward to see the AAR on this one.
When I did this mission, I basically opened up with Air Bursts on most of the Buildings in the rear. I figured they would have snipers, or ATGMs on the roof tops. :) Just have to get the right buildings.
From what i recall from this campaign, if you use artillery precision rounds, a near miss can disable/knockout BMPS but it takes 2 direct hits on a t-90M to kill it. Also, when you finish this campaign, will you be doing a play through of "Cross the Dnieper" campaign?
Once again a good-quality Black Sea AAR with great commentary and editing. Well done. PS. May I use your BMP-3 autoloader punchline, or is it trademarked? :P
Its not something you might want to lug around all the time, especially with all the missiles too. You can't put them back in the Bradleys either, so it makes sense to have the option to leave them.
I cant wait until they add NATO forces to this game.... Also I believe the BMP-3 Arena-E is in fact equipped with the Shtora-1 system.. basically a Electro-optical jammer.
Shock Force takes place in 2008 with a NATO invasion of Syria. Black Sea takes place in 2017 as NATO rushes to help defend Ukraine from a Russian invasion. So, different terrains, different factions, different levels of technology, different ToEs. Shock Force is also complete, with 3 modules of additional content while Black Sea is just the base game at the moment.
@@jarodaffygaming276 The gameplay is the same across all the CM games. The only exception I can think of is Shock Force, which has some features relating to unconventional warfare (IEDs, civilians etc) that aren't very relevant outside of the Syrian context.
@@usuallyhapless9481 how cool would it be if combat mission had an FPS aspect where you could pick one unit per turn and command it like a shooter? maybe not possible, but would be cool
@@usuallyhapless9481 my main problem playing the game is my lack of patience; i usually just skim the briefings, and don't properly analyze terrain or formulate a plan. and i'll not bother to command all units on larger maps or command them sloppily, and try to get every battle done in one sitting. which is not how to play the game! i think i need to get into email pvp, which would force me to take it slow :)
You lose men because your attack is not terrain focused. You focus on enemy troops and as they are defending, they have spotted your troops long before you have spotted them. Seize terrain and isolate your objectives.

If you have a 155 battery playing as the US, you'll get access to precision guided munitions that ARE capable of taking out armor.

Thanks man ;) I'm currently trying to work out what to bloody do lol

These are great. Really appreciate the effort and some of the better work out there really enjoy.
