- Today I'm taking a quick look at the New Balance 992 GR, a sneaker that has re-released the first time since 2006. Amongst New Balance fans this already is a true classic and now with the Dad Shoe trend definitely has seen a wider fanbase. In this video I'm going quickly over materials and craftsmanship as well as sizing info, fit and also giving you an on feet. Hey, good review. The plastic on the rear to which you referred, on one side, is to help the wearer retain stability when running or walking. Often, people suffer from over-pronation, meaning; when they plant their feet, they tend to rotate inwards. By firming up the inside of the heel, and leaving the outside cushioned, when “over-pronators” plant their feet, the trainers aim to level the foot in anticipation for bearing the weight of your body, to straighten the foot and ankle, which has an effect higher up your leg by creating good alignment. Purported to prevent injury and help with injury recovery. Not everyone requires this as some people are neutral runners.
ASICS are into this technology in a big way. Therefore, their website explains it in full.

hab den 992 von 2006 , yes its more soft cushioned than the 991. many runners complained back then that it lacks stability and thats why nb soon released the 993 which is a perfect mixture of stability and cushion. i have the original of all then so i can compare lucky me ☺️
As I'm not using them to run in I'm perfectly fine with the cushioning and lack of support 😊. Thanks for chiming in and sharing the history!

@@Templar.Knight-Reaper I think a combination of all three. I got into the brand way before the current hype around the 992 or new silhouettes and still consider the 998 one of their best models to date. It's like putting your feet into an old pair of slippers 😄
@@Templar.Knight-Reaper quality on nb Made in is off the charts. Materials. Quality control, etc. the comfort is crazy too. Don’t forget most made in shoes are old models (10+ models or more) so technology is from that era. You’re not getting new tech as boost and same stuff but it’s one of the shoes that you get something really premium paying a premium price such as 200€/$

go with your normal NB size, usually US made NBs run bigger than Nike. I prefer to size up in many Nike as I consider NB and Adidas US 12.5 my tts and Nike just doesn't know how to make a consistent tts sizing. Everybody's feet and preferences are different though

Sole - especially the bottom sole is a very nice touch. I have 577 in this colour - it's really cool for nb, s. In my opinion. These are a good buy. Definitely worth a look. 👌. 👍.

Anything ultra boost (not NMD, those are stiff) or Nike React midsole should work for you. My vote goes to React though as they don't bottom out as easily as Boost. Spiridon midsole is also very comfy, or Asics Gel Kayano 5 (360), Asics Gel 1090

if you have normal or wider feet I'd suggest to go TTS to your Nike size. I have narrow feet and am ok with sizing down 0.5, but generally I'd say TTS will fit

I sized down in the 992 compared to the 990v5. To me the US 12 of the 992 fits almost the same as the 990v4. The v5 is indeed a little longer than the v4 but I tried sizing down and it was way too snug. Funny how the half steps differ so much in the v5

I’m considering just ordering both 9.5 and 10 to see which fits best and return the other. But with all this covid19 the return process is a while

Hey thank you very much for the kind words! My.true size is a US 12.5 and this is a US 12. I probably could also wear a 12.5 but I also size down in the 997 and 998 and to me they fit similar in length. There is no 12.5 in 997/998 but I never had problems so far. I go TTS in 990v3-v5, 993

No idea really, I wish I could help. NB and various stores keep restocking them and it's probably best to follow those stores on IG or join an FB New Balance group where people share links when that happens

Going by fit I'd say a) 993 b) 992 c) 991. By looks a) 993 b) 991 c) 992. But they're all very similar, very tough call

White laces work in about 80% of all cases 😄
Is this model suitable for light people? (I weigh 65kg or 143lbs). Will the sole hardness cause discomfort? I really want to try this legendary model!
I don't think it will be stiffer because you weigh less. Softness level should be the same for almost all weights because it keeps its density. Just more weight will compress the midsole more and it will shorten the lifespan

Which one do you think it’s better made, 993 or 992? I like more the 993 but I think that the quality of the 992 is higher and lasts longer
Mine are probably about the same, I think the midsole is better glued on on the 993 and overall I think I prefer it over the 993 as well. But haven't had both of them long enough to see how each one is holding up over time
Hey brother! I just got some 990v5’s I want to reshape the toebox using YOUR method. Do you recommend that with the quality suede they use? Or should I just leave it alone?
Damn, I didn't respond to this, did I? Sorry about that! No I wouldn't recommend ironing the v5, I don't actually see a reason to. With quality suede you can only work on it for a brief moment, nothing I'd really recommend. Especially if you haven't done it before. If you have an old beat up pair where you can try on you can do that. But still, I wouldn't reshape the v5.

Where did you buy the shorter white laces?
Just at my local shoemaker who carries a German brand called "Barth". Very good quality. They're 1,20m / 47 inches, still kinda long you can probably also try 1,10m/43 inches but in-store that length is hard to find

They’re cool but way more comfy the 990, they should come back with the 990v4
the v4 is still around and goes for pretty good prices on eBay. But gotta agree, the 990v4 is super comfy

I got them from someone I know who bought it at the first release in mid January. I can see them already listed in the coming soon section of another store so I guess they're coming in March
40.5 on nike i and 40.7 adidas. I need to buy new balance 992 at size 40.5 or 40?
My Adidas and NB size is the same, just Nike fits small a lot of times because they don't know how to make a consistent sizing. So you'll probably be good with a NB 40.5. If you have other US NBs stick with that size as they usually run bigger

To me they basically fit like the 998, I'd go with that size. If you're a US 8 everywhere else you should be fine here as well.

If you're TTS across all NBs do the same, if you size down in the 998/997 I'd do the same here. Half size up from TTS will be big

I can go down a half size in an AF1, I do go down a half size from TTS in my 998, 997 and this 992. I'm TTS in 990v3-v5. I think you can size a half size down from your TTS, so same size as your AF1

you probably can but I'm not sure if they were ever designed to be an explicit running shoe. More lifestyle. The quality might even hold up but you'd cause some confusion being seen running in them since they're a very sought after lifestyle shoe
How wide are they I’ve got rather feet but so I need to really go for the wide version ?
Not super wide I have narrow feet so to me they feel a little wider, maybe you should try 2E but I don't even know if they're available anything other than D width

You're welcome! I definitely like them much more on foot. Mentioned earlier on here, the slanted back of the heel looks a little odd when in hand but on foot it's a different story. And the toebox is a little more streamlined than 991/993. Can't stress enough how comfy they are

What’s the two most comfortable shoes in your collection?
wow that's really hard, many shoes are really close to each other in terms of comfort. I would probably go with the Asics Gel Saga II (so the first one that was generally known as the Saga) and the Diadora N9000 on tie with the New Balance 998. Reason: because you can just throw them on any day and they feel right. Great cusioning, not bulky, relatively light and you don't feel them bothering throughout the whole day.

@@Funk11147 the Gel Saga (2) was available mainly from around 2013-2016, you can find some older pairs on eBay. IMO it's better than the current Saga, the midsole is just far more superior. Also the outsole lasts forever, one of the most rugged sneakers I know. I'm going tts in the Saga, many people size down but if you have a wider foot it is probably too narrow. The Made in Italy N9000 is definitely worth it. The Italy GRs end up for a steal on eBay, for whatever reason but the quality is just as amazing as the collabs. The collabs usually run a half size big, the Asia and Italy GRs tts. But some of the newer collabs are also a little smaller or in between sizes, so you should size up in them. In my experience / to my knowledge these N9000 run tts: 24 KTS Copito, Patta 9, High Snobiety Bluebird, Diadora Talk Mix. LC23 Oxford is also inbetween, wide foot should size up.

Are they more comfortable than the 990 v4's and v5's?
comfort is about the same, the one thing I like more about the 992 is the fact that you're walking more silently in them. Whenever your heel impacts in the 990v5 it makes a slight "tock" sound, the 992 is almost silent. I just like silent sneakers :) And the 992 feels slimmer and more natural, if that makes any sense.

Depends on the 990 ;). In the 992 I went with a US 12. I'm also a US 12 in 997, 998 and 990v2. In 990v3-v5 I'm a tts 12.5. 991 I'd need a tts 12.5, in a 1500 I'm fine with a 13. I hope this helps!

Man, no reason to be disappointed! Even if the 992 is the current flavor the 993 is probably the even more preferred model by a lot of people. My bias is also slightly towards the 993

Best in terms of? Both are great shoes and comfortable, you cannot go wrong with either. In the end it's about which one you like better
@@HighlyAkicktive best as in like ultra boost is more comfy than pure boost, yeezy 380 is more comfy than 350, which one comes with the latest technogy sir? Which one is the most comfy? 🙏🏽
The v5 has the better midsole as it's a newer technology and also more stability for overpronation. But comfortwise I don't think it makes a world of difference
Been checking NB.de EVERY DAY for these.
This release has been weird. I haven't had the impression that NB has really been talking about these other than the Joe Fresh Goods pair. Looking at IG and news sites, I could only find that NB had a big release in Asia a couple of weeks ago 🤔. No real mention of big stock for the rest of the world yet.
Die kamen Mitte Januar schon mal bei NB und paar Retailern, sind aber sehr schnell verschwunden. Bei asphaltgold.de ist er jedenfalls im Coming Soon, sollte spätestens Mitte März werden

I heard that it will re-release in March, stores allegedly didn't get full stock because of quality issues. Crossing my fingers for you that you're gonna be able to grab one! And yes, the NB1 option is pretty pricey, but if you're planning on making something special it's ok'ish

Auf jeden Fall! Mit 990v3, 990v4 und v5 kannst du auch nix falsch machen, die Sohlen sind auch mega bequem. Shape am Fuß vom 992 gefällt mir aber auch persönlich ziemlich gut
