It took me sometime to get back into bloc party with the few changes but I'm glad I committed with loyalty. I love it all. I hope they continue to grow even in the most stubborn soil which they have sown.

The entire "Hymns" album is massively, disgustingly undervalued. I love the stripped-back instruments. Bass comes alive! "Different Drugs" is genuinely haunting, the most haunting I've experienced since The Cure. Yes.

the new Bloc Party is great, its just that their audience is more familiar with their older stuff and this just isnt that. If there was no context of the "old" bloc party this would be so much more enjoyable for me personally.

I think that some of the new album is decent, but i found that i got bored listening to it - some parts are too similar, some too different. Another problem was that they releaced their best tracks as teasers, but then didnt follow through with that quality in the release; if th y had releaced a range of the new styles then we would have known what to expect!

The problem is: this is not Bloc Party. Half of the band and the sound is gone. Form a new band, under a new name and let the name rest till you sort things out. So yeah Bloc Party is not great anymore, to be honest it has become a shit Bloc Party but an okayish whatever else album which would have been fine.

the blue people are the olympic gods enjoying their status and many ways of pleasure easily accesible to them, Kele here acts as a philosopher (I cannot make my mind as to whether he's in ancient greece or a more recent time) and as per concepts of gnoseology he cannot grasp any absolute truth, he's aware of the tragedy which is conveyed by the various shots of him in various states of incompleteness and in the darkness and the lyrics "for all of my virtue, why can I not hold the truth?" and "this path will lead us back, will lead us back to ruin" implying he has been starting from 0 several times trying to understand in absolute terms whichever object he choose.
I'm not quite clear as to who he's singing to, whether to the abrahamic god or one of the goddesses, but most probably to the goddess who's holding the mirror at 1:42, giving meaning to the lines "in you presence, consequence, I can't stop trembling" and "for all of my virtue I would change my place with you", nonetheless this conflicts with the mention of "Lord", maybe implying how much the belief of a creating being varies from culture to culture, cradle of civilization to cradle of civilization.
Whole verse 2 is about Kele wanting to go back to a previous time where he wasn't in search for the unobtainable, wanting to go back to just enjoying because this is taking a toll on his mental state and moral compass.
At the end of the song the visuals accelerate, Kele accepts his position with the line "I've fallen again" but does not say "again" at the end, he "falls" but falls on something to stand on, and in doing so a new branch of philosophy is created, most probably absurdism, it is born.
Nice track! By the way the part: "I´m falling, I´m falling again,.." reminds me The Killers - Mr. Brightside´s ending...

Album is a let down, some good stuff on there but too many duds. And what is it with Kele's voice? Hes singing like a Granny putting a baby to sleep. He never had the strongest voice but at least it had more vigour and conviction. Now he just sounds pathetic and vulnerable. Maybe thats what he is going for but I dont like it. Listen back to Banquet and compare to the new album to see what I mean.

Can Kele stop using the Bloc Party name to make his own music, please? He already forced out Matt and Gordon, and Russell is as uninvolved as ever. This is getting to like Billy Corgan clinging onto Smashing Pumpkins for too long territory. If Kele wants to be the band that's fine, but just call it as it is because he didn't used to be the only important part of Bloc Party's identity. This isn't a call to go back to Silent Alarm kind of music. It's a call to have some respect for the people who helped bring you to this point in the first place.

I think everyone is in agreement that the new album just isn't of our liking. I remember when the third album "Intimacy" came out and quite alot of people were hating on it for having a huge electronic influence on it but over time I found it to be a great album imo. I was thinking maybe this album would almost have the same effect on me but it has yet to happen. They sound like a bad cover of Metronomy now.
+GeminiEye1 The reason why Intimacy receives better review/response than this one is because it still retains their energy even though they experimented quite a lot. I'll say that most of the critic toward the album were probably more in the terms of "overproduced" than being "electronic album". To be honest, I still prefer Intimacy more than A Weekend In The City or Four.
Their recent album just felt "lazy" and none of the song were that memorable compared to Intimacy.
