    A few takeaways that are even more relevant lessons to the audience. First off just because you use a bigger spring doesn’t mean it’s a stronger spring made and tempered from better quality spring steel, especially at a given compressed length. Secondly adding tar may help with spring wrap but it also will cause more friction which amplifies the weaker spring issue. I bet if you did a tension test between the two springs the new bigger spring has less tension when it’s compressed to the length that the rifle is compressing it. Final takeaway, more spring tension is more power, its just laws of physics!

    Hi Kevin,
    Thank you for another great video and learn on your channel.
    I am just beginning this journey and putting into practice what I'm learning from you. Im loving it and finding this really interesting. I'm also loving other peoples comments and findings, leading to an all-around very interesting read and education.
    I suppose Kevin, even people like yourself who are obviously very knowledgeable and experienced still find things that surprise them and run against what they would expect to find. Maybe this is what keeps us all on the cliff face, lol!
    It was lovely to see the Diana Magnum air rifle and like the Weihraurch's looks super well made and dependable.
    In my heart of hearts, Ive always thought Diana's stocks were just a little slender and would like them a little beefier. However, thats just personal choice and splitting hairs. Of course, a beefier stock means more weight and not a great choice in the field when carrying all day.
    Thank you again, Kevin. Great to see you and listen and learn to what you have to say and show us.
    Take care, my friend.

    It would be interesting to test the rifle with heavier pellets-comparing both springs. With heavier wire diameter, the rifles power curve tends toward heavier pellets. With H&N Barracudas at 21 grains, I'll wager the heavier spring would show higher velocities than the lighter spring. Interesting lessons in how spring rifles function in relation to different powerplant components. Best wishes Kevin.

    Great little channel here, normally I don't subscribe to any channels but these videos are little hidden gems. Been searching for information on break barrels, so many reviews DONT fire the gun. How can you review without firing!? You do a solid job though. I feel like when I'm watching I'm learning from my elder, something useful that maybe one day I can pass down to the next generation. I notice you love to do rifles mostly. But I would really love to see more pistols! The Benjamin trail np is one I have my eye on but here in Canada we are VERY limited to what we can even buy. So unfortunately seems like every decent pistol I find I can't even purchase. 💔
    Anyways just something I would love to see since I'll never be able to fire one 😭.. back to your videos. Keep it up old timer... be amazing to shoot with you and learn some tips (beginner here trying to find the right break barrel or spring pistol to even buy)

      I don't know if it's available in Canada or not, but I'd highly recommend the Weihrauch HW70 air pistol. Top quality and an excellent trigger, which, as far as I'm concerned, is a must-have in a pistol.
      Thanks again, my friend.

      @@razor1962 I had a feeling you would recommend something great. That gun is so similar to one I already had my eye on. The record lp3. German made guns are amazing and would love to get my hands on one. They don't build things the way they use to, so idealy I want a gun made before I was born. Or a lot of the German made guns seem perfect for what I want. I appreciate the advice, I wanted something built to last, full metal rather than plastic. I think if I find this gun available I'll definitely have a hard time saying no... Any other recommendations for a springer or break barrel pistol would be amazing.

    • @razor1962
      @razor1962  Год назад +1

      @keithhockley5168 As long as you wisely will consider older guns, heres a few of my favorites.
      If your looking for good rugged pistol and you don't mind having to work a little to shoot a decent group, a classic pistol like the Webley Tempest or it's older cousins the Senior and the Premier are worth a look. There's also a variation called the hurricane, and it featured a longer sight plane as well as the option to mount a scope.
      Check out the Hy Score model 802. It's a 6 shot, repeating spring pistol with a surprisingly nice trigger.
      Have a look at the Diana Mod 5 or 6. Both are high-quality guns. The model 5 is a standard break barrel, while the model 6 is recoiless. There were variations as the guns evolved..all of them were great guns.
      The HW45 / Beeman P1 pistol is expensive but definitely brings more to the table. Its's trigger is awesome.
      Another gun to consider, which I believe is still available, is the Cometa Indian. A unique design, I have not had the pleasure of handling one, however.
      Still don't know what your limitations are with regard to air pistols in Canada. It's possible that none of these will meet the requirements of the laws. I guess that figuring that out is on you, Keith.

    • @handstandMAN
      @handstandMAN Год назад +2

      Truely appreciate the info. I know I have just begun my journey of learning about these pistols. But it seems like each day I dig up more names and it leads me to another fantastic gun, and a rabbit hole that keeps going deeper (the real treasures were made before I was even born) I'm so fascinated by any of the break barrel pistols. I researched all the names you gave, and was pretty impressed. Any One of them would be an amazing first gun. I didn't see any of them for sale online in Canada, and also unfortunately it has to be under 500fps which a lot of the great pistols are higher than that.
      Also even if I could find any, it's probably 500-1000 $. So while I know it's quality it's hard for me to want to buy something that's a bit out of budget. For example the feinwerkbau (103) pistols, just amazing but also well over a thousand dollars easily. I'm unfortunately a broke person, my original budget was under 100. But then as I looked it climbed up to 200, and so on, I'm about the 300-400$ range now 😆 It's a hard choice for begginers, when there's so many options. I really love the Webley guns, tempest, hurricane, senior, Alecto... Ah you know them all. Can't wait to shoot one!! I'll continue learning from your videos, and look forward to the next pistol one!!!

      The spring has got a lot less to do with the power than the efficiency of the sealing and the swept volume (unless your original spring has really lost it's tension or taken a set)...the piston can move forwards twice as fast but if the same amount of air is being compressed you're only going to find a handful of fps, maybe 20....whereas if you can increase the swept volume by quarter inch or so you can get 10% more power with the same spring
      Often, weighting the piston can make more difference than a spring you have to stand on to cram in.
      You can tune the transfer port too, but cocking it up is a bit fatal.
      This rifle has slowed because of the spring tar ... I'm not a fan, quietens it, sure, but there's no substitute for allowing controlled natural rotation, there was probably no loss of original spring temper, so nothing to gain really.

    • @razor1962
      @razor1962  Год назад

      Hi Dom. Great info. I've been getting some feedback that also recommends eliminating the tar. I'll give it some experimental testing. I imagine that a tight-fitting guide can cancel the buzz without the need for tar. Let's find out....

    Hey Kevin,
    Thanks for this video.
    Your videos are really great for newbies like me who haven't worked on airguns before.
    Where can I buy a heaviy spring coil system to replace a gas ram system and can I actually increase the fpe dramatically? I was hoping to get about 40 fpe for an old Gamo .22 so that I can harvest a big raccoon that has been hanging around my house. I don't have any PCP's in a higher calliber or higher fpe so I was thinking stronger spring and using heavy slugs. But I was told that a raccoon this size (almost 4 ft) needs a lot more than the 19/20 or so fpe. Does a spring coil producing 40 fpe even exist? And if it did, would the double recoil make the shot so inaccurate that it would defeat the purpose of the installation?
    Thanks again.
    Stay Safe. Be Well. GOD BLESS.

    • @marcmyers1465
      @marcmyers1465 Год назад +1

      I don't think that's even possible metallurgically ??? 🤷🏼‍♂️ And I seriously doubt the chassis would handle the cocking force. 🤯
      Back in the day when it came down to shear brute force your last resort was an Ox or Titan mainspring. Probably the Titan but the shot cycle is gonna be rough as a Cobb ! 😖
      Specifically for this particular purpose you're probably better off with a PCP. 🤷🏼‍♂️
      Even a fully charged .25 Theoben Eliminator only produces 33fpe with a 55 lb. cocking effort.

      BKL's are pretty straight forward and solid as a rock ! 😉👍 No droop necessary for a Newer Weihrauch. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    try pellets that have a stronger skirt i, in my d52 most diabolo pellets are blown up to look like a slug, and then they do not get the speed

      This is exactly why I tend to use the Crosman Premier Heavies in Diana Super Magnums. They have a solid waist with a hard high antimony lead and just enough of a short thin skirt to conform to the rifling lands. 😉
      So far it's always worked for me, but yeah... There are lots of other pellets I might like to use for other reasons. 🤷🏼‍♂️
      You're right though Many pellets will simply balloon before they ever even make it down the barrel. 😠 Many of the Diana pellets have a premium soft lead that works Great for most Airguns, but Super Magnums do tend to blow them out of proportion. 😣
